This is a great Randy Brecker composition. I had the pleasure of playing with him at Musicfest Canada as a teenager. Ada is a great player. Nice looking tenor too!
I need to say how sorry I am to you all.I came off so strong and said things that I never meant to say so I ask you all to please forgive me.Its just not me to be that way.For those of you that have put her down think stop and listen. The sound system was horrid even Randy didn't sound like himself.Get it straight she or no one will replace Michael nor was she hired to do so.I think its time to call the dogs off.Thank you for your time. Sal Alberico....
I dont think Randy choose Ada Rovatti as a replacement for MB because he is irreplaceable but what pisses me off is that Ada isnt playiing the Saxophone parts correctly on this song. I've heard Billl Evans (saxophonist) Do a much better job. Hey Randy i know she's your Wife and she does look good but and play some nice phrases but her tone doesnt really blend with your sound should at least learn the propper horn lines. Classic Brecker Brothers Material is hallowed ground as far as im concerned
@indaplace2b Get a grip,I think she sounds great and not one of us should compare her to Michael or Trane or anyone else.Let me hear you play also the funny thing is that I'm an alto player and I still dig her sound and her playing.I'm sure I'm older than you so take some advice,Never put down a player.
Yo ... before you dis on Randy too much ... have you listened to all of the man's discography ?
Yeah , I sometimes get tired of Randy's lines too ... but c'mon how many times has Randy played Sponge in concert ? Thousands ? Probably ...
Give Randy credit for all the amazing young cats he's help put on the map ! And might want to pick up "In The Idiom" if you think he can't play straight.
Lol...nice tag. I picked up a 66R UL tenor last year...It is pretty amazing...and coming from someone with a series III sop and alto, and series II bari.
(..) but you never really could call randy a great story-teller of jazz(..) lot of phrases, he played lot of high notes but nothing which could baffle the audience, no melody which could touch the peoples hearts (..) " sorry for my bad english/translation but i think you get the point and this is what i'm thinkin about him, too. but in THIS clip i dont even like ada rovatti.. and randy looks like someby whos fishing or camping but not like one of the jazz greats you have to take serious.
yes, youre right. i definately like his sound, and ive got some brecker bros. albums which are just great. The brecker brothers horns and a funky rhythm section is something i really like. but still i think he isnt a really good solo player. i just watched a video of him trying to play on giant steps.. just terrible.. ((: i couldnt do it ANY better.. but still i dont like this. greetings
wow.. i think this is SUCH a bad vid.. i never really liked randy. im JUST reading a critic in the local newspaper (randy played severel days ago in Kempten, GERMANY) and it says: "for the first time the final day of the Kemptener Jazzfrühling WASN'T soled out (..) what the trumpet player did wasn't something you would happily think about for several hours or days after the concert (..) his wife ada rovatti had better stories to tell (..)

I love Sponge.
I remember playing a big band arrangement of this with an honor band I was a part of.
I LOVED IT!
I wish I could find a recording of it.

Wow !!!
Have you listen Brecker Brother's albums ?
Others albums who are composed by Randy is amazing, and i think he have a very big place in the Jazz history.
His musicality, his solo, his phrases and his sound takes their place in the greater modern Jazz musicians.
And "the peoples hearts" is not very an argument... Jazz will never become a music for all people.
If you have ears, you would understand why it could played with the Master, M.Brecker.
It's truth, this vid isn't a example !

Sponge !
The groove is here.
Ada Rovatti, you should raise your microphone !
Some phrases are not very placed... It's shame!
Very good energy !
