I can't quite take this show seriously as a war drama, but I'll be damned if I deny finding it addictive. The Zentraedi are great aliens, just human enough to identify with while at the same time different enough to contrast our own humanity. The human characters range widely from being sympathetic to being dicks, yet their personalities still remain distinct. Still, I never figured Rick for a chauvinist.

Then, given the finite resources of the SDF-1, you can't help but wonder how they replenish planes, missiles, bullets, and et cetera so quickly.

Even assuming that they can scrap unimportant portions of the ship for raw materials, that still does not account the number of pilots that have to be replaced. Not to mention the miriad of technological mindfart moments. Still, I try not to take it too seriously. The appeal of the series isn't it's realistic portrayal of war, but its characters.

It's not all that different from the new Galactica series, where pilots were recruited from a surviving population of under 50,000. I don't take it too seriously either, so no worries.

@GardianX I know it's a little bit late to reply to this (1 year later at least), but I have just read it so I go. The book (written after the series) explains a lot better all these things, in it, Lisa volunteers herself because she feels guilty about the comment by Rick about how easy it is to give orders staying safe inside the SDF-1 while pilots are outside risking their lives. Actually there are a lot of details that are explained in the book, and certain differences with the TV series.
