Perch aren't minnows, but I've used them as bait in the past, they used to be legal in the St Lawrence River up until a couple years ago. I've caught many pike on them, even a carp once.
Two things for sure, they are a lot cheaper and last a lot longer than minnows ;)
thats a pretty good sized bass, especially one for a night crawler. i usually use live perch for that size

Love fishin' for bass on shore like that, it's just more fun to me. And you're right, nothin' like a big crawler on a big hook and a bobber. Lol
