Don't know if anyone can answer this - but why not ink digitally? You can can many nice brushes that simulate real brush and ink strokes... was just curious why they still do it the traditional way with real ink?
@locomangoze Response from Scott: "Some people do ink digitally now. Various reasons not to: First, there is no original art to sell if all art is done digitally. Second, the computer simulates traditional tools, if you already know how to use the real tools, why bother with a simulation. Third, the computer is used mostly to speed up a process. I can ink traditionally faster than doing it on computer."
@apathymusic thanks that makes sense. I'll keep practicing the traditional method. I'll keep on with my excuse that the brushes are made for right-handed people until I get it right :P ;)
THE REASON WHY I USE CAPS A LOT, IS BECAUSE I WRITE WITH CAPS. I FORGET TO TURN IT OFF, ONCE I'M DONE WITH MY WORK. THE REASON I WRITE WITH CAPS, IS BECAUSE COMICS ARE IN CAPS.
Inkers don't get the props they deserve. 'cause I know I can draw my ass off but when it comes to inking my illustrations I'm colorblind. Lol, notice how dude said he knows how to0 pencil as well, as if to say he's not a professional color book painter.
inking is very important, most people assume an inker doesnt know how to draw because they mostly trace over an original drawing, but i draw in pencil then ink over it too and i get asked alot if i trace which is an ultimate insult to artists lol
I think that the comics like Spider-Man, Batman, The Incredible Hulk, Superman, The Flash etc. are a little bit better than Manga, but I used to think the opposite.
In my opinion its not the titles but the writers and the story arc that determines which books are better. Art helps but its not a determining factor when enjoying a good yawn. I like some Manga titles because of the non-conforming nature of the story-teller who isn't confined to abide by what others deem as "politically correct" and have the nads to tell the story the way its meant to be conveyed. And though I enjoy the American mainstream titles as well, the writers here are scrutinized for
The thing is you will never see the same depth in manga as you do in comic books. Especially when it comes to graphic novels. It will still be superficial and the art is always going to be lesser than comics (aside from Takehiko Inoue).
LOL from what I've seen it's the other way around. Most mainstream American comics are forced to stay with the superhero idea not that it's a bad thing it just gets dull after a while which is why I read manga. With manga you get to see so many different genres that here in the states are mostly seen in indy comics. Also that art of manga can be just as detailed if not more so since they don't have to worry about coloring. There are plenty of good manga with deep stories and detailed art.
thats what i like more manga is more personal the one who do the penciling does the inking (not always).. but in the other hand Comics have a more finished tuch and the animation can get really. And is complily true what he said the he improves the art work... very often ikers have to interpret draws that can be confusing and make little changes so it looks like it should...
yeah that is true, but in a world of comics and manga... each have their own perspective styles... Manga has grown quite popular, really popular... everyone has a favorite style of drawing... or seeing art... Manga works are original... even as cliched as most of them are... and Comics have great artwork but they have too many continuity errors... just keep reading what you subscribed too... but be open to new art...
I agree that manga is more detailed in some works but even that medium resorts to color and inking to sell, ie: the covers. So stylistically I have to give the edge to good ole American comics.
you can see in this he is a bit tired of peole thinking inkers cant draw and are tracers lol, in reality a good inker can transform a page. wish tim bradstreet still inked...he was very good.
i wouldn't call him a tracer but i wouldn't give him half as much credit as the penciler, and personally i'd have to ink my own work, i ink sort of like McFarlane crossed with Lienel Yu
I wouldn't say that. Inkers give the image much more weight and a real world feel to it. Inks really help the art "pop" off the page and makes it seem less flat and more 3 dimesional. Also, inkers would have to have the greatest grasp of negative and positive space as they fill in the large, pure black shading areas.
Heh, seems I'm a lot more appreciative of the inker's contribution since I've tried and suck at inking. :P
Hanna is one of the best.
Excellent and responsible Inker.

The depth is a matter of opinion friend. The depth is created by the story, w/o depth in the story, depth cannot be made in the drawing.

i agree. to show bias for one art form over another is senseless. manga and comics both take remarkable skill and discipline to the craft
