@kriios it's a passive Display port TO DVI adapter. The card has a DVI port and a DP port, the adapter allows you to use two monitors each with DVI cables.
@gogapredator anyone else have a comment? It really depends on your app, if you need Cuda, driver stability for your app, etc. I would probaby go Nvidia for my next card for Cuda... but who knows.
@buhdab probably not - read of someone else trying it in 1.0, and the computer wouldn't POST. ATI's website says PCI Express® 2.0 x16 is a System Requirement.
I plan to buy this card but I got only one question, I know its a graphics and designing card but does it run games good too? Ill really appreciate if you could answer :)
@benavnon10 I don't game. but it will work for games. For the price, you could get a higher performing gaming card - it depends on where you spend most of your time.
@guitarherofreak161 just go to amd dot com and in the upper right, under the search box, there's a 'support & drivers' menu item - hover over it, and then follow the links to get the right driver for your operating system version (XP, Vista, 7) and whether it's x86 (32bit) or x64 (64 bit).
What are the physical specs (i.e. width, length, and height) of that card? All I can find is packaging dimensions and I'm wondering if it'll fit in my case.
@ColonelTempus it'll probably fit - it's a full height of the case bracket (standard full height) which means it won't fit in most HTPC cases, mini cases, etc. length is ~6.5" - smaller than the 4870 I replaced it with. If you have an ATX case, or even a micro atx case, it will probably fit no problem. I didn't find the dimensions on a quick search...
@Ryu281 depends on what application you're mainly going to use. check out tomshardware[.]com/charts/workstation-graphics-charts/benchmarks,3.html for comparisons. I chose v4800 for best of performance at my price point.
@obbma4ler22 it's pretty good for what I do, I never go more than around 5 million polys though - biggest bottleneck for me is hard drive right now, playing back avi texture files and wav with prosound (in 3ds max). see review link to blog in the info above (just updated).
@PckpwL4D possibly... Check out forums.guru3d.com I was never able to successfully get my 4870 flashed and installed as FirePro 8700 under vista64 anyway.
can i play games in ati firepro v4800 becoz i want to play game as well while working on 3d max????? basically i need a graphic card which give best result in 3dmax n gaming??? plzzzzz w8 for ur reply...
@ashishtanwar1210 sorry I can't answer - I don't play games. I know this card will work for gaming, but price per performance is different. Do you want mostly 3DS Max and a little gaming? Or mostly Gaming? If mostly Gaming, get a consumer card. if Mostly Max, this will be good enough. Chances are you'll be just as happy with a $180 gaming card in both programs.
If you use workstation applications 80% of the time or more you should get a workstation card and forget about gaming on that computer. Or else you'll end up with a computer that can't do either very well.
The CAD computer I have I use 40+ hrs a week and I have a seperate cheaper gaming computer I built with a single gfx card and it was no more than $400 USD I use less than 20 hours a week for gaming.
@Podrivashkin not 100% same cards...drivers for the v4800 are made specificaly made to work with open gl applications such as after effects. CAD..etc...
@factionxvt408x I'm not a gamer - I use it with 3DS Max, as well as Blender (which often has better viewport performance, even with mid-range gaming cards compared to Max).
Is that an active DVI to Display port adapter or a plain old passive adapter?

yes - it's basically the same as a 5670 - not sure if it's as optimized (drivers-wise) - but it does support dx9-11, OGL, etc.

Would you recommend this or the Quadro 600/ FX 580 as an entry level workstation card?

@loklomedia US, I've been looking to upgrade from an HD4670 which isn't great for gaming, which is what I mainly use my PC for.
