The Dio is the best singer ever, a unique voice, he sings a lot more than Coverdale, but I prefer the Coverdale singing, he is certainly the voice of the Blues. Mistreated is a song about a broken heart! this version doesnt expalin this feeling. David coverdale's version with the amanzing ritchies guitar is the best version!
mistreated is a song about a broken heart!this version doesnt expalin this feeling.David coverdale's version with the amanzing ritchies guitar is the best version!all my respects for dio,but hes not right for this soing!
I'll be asking myself until he's in. Why is he not in the Hall Of Fame? 1957 to 2010 That's a heck of a career for anyone. But Grandmaster Flash is in (scratching my head) Really?
@rjdshmetal I don't think that's the question to ask. Gmr Flash is a DJ, something totally different and he was its primary pioneer, like Hendrix with innovating the guitar. The question is why'd Metallica go in before bands like Deep Purple, Rainbow and Iron Maiden, who paved the way? Zep and Sabbath are in. Purple and Rainbow should be next. Jethro Tull, Yes, etc.
correct! This is a blues song, period! Dio's voice is unbelievable, but just not fitting to this song...someone else on a different post wrote that he "metalised" it, which is 100% correct...David with his deep bluesy voice does this song full justice....now, just imagine Mistreated sung by vocal GOD himself, Paul Rodgers....!! eh..?? Now, this is worth waiting for..!
I saw Rainbow open for Foghat (WTF!!!) in '77. It was easily the best show I had seen to date and still stands out today. I've seen Coverdale do this as well, but Dio just lights it up.

Dio dio-ised this song and made it better, quite metal. I never liked the studio version but this one is incredible. Dio + Ritchie + Cozy = the best band ever
Dio is a great singer, but this song is only for coverdale type of voice, kinda heavy and bluesy, even gillan i think wouldn't be great singing this song
in this video Ronnie sings this song better than Coverdale... it's simply Stratospheryc, maybe that's because Dio was and will be an eternal god... Ronnie, we miss you...
RIP The Dio..forever will you be forgotten due to Since You Been Gone...gutted. The magic for those who know how to get it still makes it more special.

I was referring to the small group of WBC sign toters protesting at Ronnie's memorial. A person has to hate rock music period to thumbs down on this!
@Freedomquest08 Thank You Sir. I know the Ronny and Ritchie are/were deep into Satanism (been around) but no one is so pure they can say you bad me good. Yeah the Gays really messed up the rainbow for me!
When I was child and I saw a rainbow, it was a thing of beauty and there was that slight chance there just might be that pot of gold at the end of it.
But now when I see a Rainbow, All I see is a couple of leprechauns humping each other! It aint right…
@Cekocraft I can't disagree. To put some perspective on this, this man recorded his first song when '57 Chevys were rolling off the assembly lines.
How many singers could front a headline act such as Black Sabbath 52+ years into their singing career, and still have a strong enough voice to dominate the songs? Most bands quit writing music, and are doing has been reunion tours to supplement their retirement after about 25 years. Not Dio, as he was on top of his game to the end.
It's obvious, RAINBOW is the best ROCK BAND ever. No doubt !!!!!! We miss you Rithchie... All of your followers are just fucking useless.... Give us joy pls. again. I don't want to die, before a real RAINBOW concert. After that I don't mind.
@CelticReject Yes, and also filling up/overload with fast schredding twiddle diddle between the open chords , being afraid another musician of his band, maybe could get a lil more attention then Mr EgoTrip Himself.
@413Kristianna There is only one God and we are only humans walking the earth until he decides when we die. You are not in control no matter how much you wish to be. Just ask Dio. RIP
Love the tune Blackmores classical guitarriffs in the middle are great as well But Dio's vocal is so intense Coverdale with Whitesnake equally as intense Just a kick ass song that sounds better live and extended then any studio cut could be
regardless if you prefer coverdale's to dio's version, dio still is a much better singer than coverdale. Dio's career is just so vast and grand, nobody can touch it. Dio was an opera singer, more or less, who could be compared to the likes of Andrea bocelli or Pavarotti.
@ijemekkos4life that is a stupid thing to say. I do prefer davids version just because he is a blues singer (which you can here) dio was to me not, but the greatest heavy metal singer ever. But you cant say that regardless which version you prefer, dio is a better singer. As good as Ronnie was in all kinds of raknings (except for Heavy Metal Vocalist rankings) david has ended up higher on the lists. Coverdale can sing heavy metal, hard rock, and blues. It's all a matter of opinion.
Ronnie's is much more powerful while David's more emotional, but David's live version isn't that good while Dio is singing live and equals to David's studio version...
@413Kristianna this is the first time i heard dio sing this one, still prefer coverdales live version on deep purple made in europe although i quite like this too just depends which version you got used to first i guess
funny i never liked the studio version at all though
i never liked dio singing ozzy's songs either but favourite lps include rainbow rising and heaven and hell
Awesome! Has there ever been a better partnership than Blackmore / Dio? Greatest rock / metal voice ever complemented by one of the most inspirational rock guitarists
As big a fan as I am of Dio, David Coverdale will always be my favourite singer. Its a shame they didnt record Mistreated with Dio on a Rainbow record... other than live...
Whitesnake did a pretty good version, its a live version on the Ready An' WIlling record.
When I see Dio and Blackmore playing together at concert I feel like I am watching a ceremony. They make you understand that music is sacred and something that every musician should respect. But they're talents are more sacred than music. They are the Gods.. they're like they come from another planet. RIP Dio... there's gonna be a really long time till we find somebody like you.
To anyone saying Dio sung this better than Coverdale, take a look at this EPIC performance: /watch?v=UvC5tTTaogI
I love both singers, I just believe this song fits better to David, because he is more the love-singer than Ronnie, who is more the mystical type. In David's performance you can see he feels every word he's singing, down to his soul! But that's my oppinion, and taste is personal for everybody, so I respect all oppinions. No quarrels here, both are Legends! Peace
@grvulture You got a point though i'm a huge fan of Dio/Cozy-era Rainbow. Maybe Coverdale's voice fits this song somewhat better since Dio has a bit too aggressive tone for such an emotional song. Long live R'N'R!

The part from 8:38 til 8:58 is just such a killer. What a supergroup with Blackmore, Powell, and Dio!
