  • Both

  • The art comes from the person so I'd say it doesn't matter what you use.Photo shop or traditional.

  • as long as it has bobs

  • what is the tablet

  • Did you go to school to learn photoshop or did you teach urself? Im in art school right now but they dont offer photoshop just animation and fine arts.

  • Anything that makes use of your artistic abilities is art. It's just a matter of how you're expressing it and the type of tools you're using. To take things to extreme, even photography can be a form of art but I wouldn't compare it to sketching. In this case you have two different methods of sketching, both requiring artistic talent and both using similar mechanics with some adjustments. Technology is irrelevant. Cave drawings on walls and sketches on paper... ALL ART.

  • "When it's applied in application".........ORLY??

  • Of coarse its real art. It's not paper and pencil art exactly, but its art by all means.

  • well if random crap on top of eachother is art... then both of these are aswell...

and what tablet do you req? i got a wacom bamboo thing and i draw like crap since i have to look at the pc monitor when i draw... so i cant see where im drawing... however i dont got 1000 bux layin around to use on a tablet...

  • I agree with Lydomina, both are art and it is a matter of personal Preference.

    Your great btw.

  • thanx for your prompt reply !!!!!!!!!!

  • I do both as well even though not nearly as well as you, they are both just means to an end and and both artwork it doesn't take more talent to draw with a penciel than it does with a tablet, people who say otherwise are usually uninformed.

  • You can also rotate canvas with new Photoshops.

  • I don't see how you do something being a big factor(if even one) on whether or not something is "art" or not. So yes, I think they are both art. I think traditional methods usually look a lot nicer, but that's just personal preference just like water color vs. acrylics.

On a somewhat unrelated subject, do you have any tips for getting nice angled strokes on an Intuos? You can't just turn an Intuos like a Cintiq so it's not as easy for me.

  • @Lydomina How about practicing your angled strokes. Rely on your own ability more than the software.

  • @deadithink Actually, this is a big problem with digital artwork, it seems.

  • @Lydomina If you're using Painter, Paint Tool Sai, or CS4 or higher, you should be able to rotate your canvas somehow.

  • @Lydomina New Photoshops let you rotate canvas in real time like in Painter. I think by hold alt and space at the same time.

  • what kind of tablet is that ......... I think they are both consider art

  • @justfine2008 12wx Cintiq. They cost $1000.

  • @architectus777 ok thanks cause I start skool and was looking for a good drawing tablet to work with why I am at home

  • What pad/tablet are you using ??????????

  • @msscrz

    cintiq

  • I can't seem to get the feel of drawing with a USB tablet. I just don't like how unnatural it feels to look at the screen while drawing. What would you suggest? Am I supposed to look another place while drawing? Is there a certain mindset you have to have?

Secondly, I ask if there are any good tablet PC options out there? I don't think it would be worth it (where my skill is at currently) to buy a high end cintiq, but a laptop with a tablet function might be justifiable. Are they any good?

  • @sgtbuckwheat I would rather get used to using an Intuos than to use a tablet PC, at least until tablet PC up their pen quality: pressure sensativity, and such.

  • @sgtbuckwheat I've never tried a tablet PC but they do sell some(listed on Wacom's website) that utilize Wacom's technology, so maybe those don't have the problems arch' listed.

  • I have a laptop with a tablet function and it just doesn't feel right. I also bought and returned a couple of USB tablets that I didn't feel comfortable with. However, I did finally find one that i'm in love with and is very affordable. Wacom Bamboo. I think they have a few different sizes priced at $50, $100 and some above $200. I went with the $100 one and I love it. It feels natural. It's also big enough to move around easily on the screen but also doesn't take up much physical space.

  • anything can be art, but that doesn't mean it'll be good.

  • Art is ones expression of self. Music is artwork, so any form of rt that takes time, effort, and work is artwork. Both forms are artwork

  • Im so jealous of your tablet. you work so comfortably on the tablet too.

  • I like both, to me they are fun to work with. I'll be honest though, I'm more of the old school (I really suck at photoshop) , but I have an open mind to learn new things.

  • Both are. You can pretty much make anything into art; I mean art is just away to express yourself. I've tried both mediums of drawing and they're still drawing....drawing is drawing - doesn't matter what you use. I mean there are some videos on Youtube of people of people drawing with lip stick and some jam stuff on toast! xD Still art! =)

  • digital is just another medium... both

  • both are art.. i mean even if i wanted to use ketchup and mustard to paint with.. thats art.. anything can be art as long as somebody's using it to express themselves or create something.. o ya.. architectus777.. you should really apply to become a you tube member and get paid for these videos.. your tutorials are awesome.. really!!!

  • Only people saying its not are the old school freaks or the "artists" saying that the computer is interfering with the artist's process or something like that. Ahhhh thumb up if you hate "artist ego bullshit" as much as I do.

  • both are

its the same technique, just another medium

  • BOTH GODDAMN IT!!!

  • To be honest, they are both art. Just different tools. People seem to think that digital is 'easier' and 'cheating' but if anything, digital is harder and takes a lot more brainpower. :) Awesome vid :)

  • both arenice but in my opinion you cant do photoshop without knowing the traditional way.

  • Both are artwork :)

  • Its both the same art on a different media. Some things are easier to achieve with a pencil, like you said, some are not such like erasing stuff. If you can draw you can use any media you want to express yourself.

  • I believe that both are definitely art but I'd go the traditional route simply because I can't afford a Cintiq tablet :^(

  • it is art because it only makes it easier for those with trained eyes( ppl who can draw) to get certain effects that would take hours to do traditionaly...Its a tool

  • I think there will always be some stigma surrounding digital art simply because of the ease of the undo feature. Personally I love using both, I do prefer pencil for simple line drawing however I have difficulty with traditional paint so I turn to digital for that effect.

So I vote for both being art, same skills, different tool for application.

  • What are ur brush settings on photoshop?

Seemed like a nice brush for lines.

I use my cintiq to outline my pencil drawings, but yeah I agree pencil is easier. Both r artwork.

  • @Fakieflps Noise checked. Size 5 or 3. Opacity and size set to pen pressure.

  • great!

  • Both are art. I'm an art student and sort of went over this with one of my teachers. Told him wanted to learn to paint with PS and asked why I'd want to do that. I just think it's be wise to know both. I prefer traditional but there things can can do on a computer that I can't by hand. Computers are just another medium and take art to another level.

  • well.. art is the definition of everything that is made by an artist that he wants to have a meaning or have some quality beyond the ordinary (saying this as a art student)... so almost everything that you do is art (today of course.. the contemp. at is really open to every conception of what is and what isn't art), and of course, using technology to improve your artwork is always welcome so I approve it.

  • both r art..

    Traditional medium = Analog input/output

    Digital medium = Digital input/output

  • The example you show requires the same skill for both PS and pencil drawing, but what if you used photoshop's erase tool or painted some clouds using a ready-made tool. I think that photoshop allows more people to create artistic effects and images that they may not have the skill to do using traditional methods. However if it improves or makes the creation of art easier and quicker then it should be considered a tool to aid the artist and not a cheat or shortcut.

  • Both, just different tools, like others have said.

  • Both are definitely Artwork.

The computer/pencil are just different tools.

  • it is easier to make characters look super bad ass on photoshop but it does take skill

  • Nice :)

  • art is everything human can create, with their imagination it doesnt matter if made of what, done with what it still being an art.

  • I think there both art work, it's just another tool to help the artist get the style he is looking for. Pros and cons for both.

  • they are both artwork

  • I agree, I think both!

  • Both are artwork though we have different experiences with them which makes it hard to compare. First you have the traditional drawing. Even before the invention of computers, people have been drawing/writing on paper ever since they were kids so it feels more "natural" to us. But if a child has been drawing/writing on a tablet most of their life, the tablet will be more "natural" to them than the traditional way. Both are/should be considered art.

  • i think they are both art, too. the tablet and the paper and pencil both have their pros and cons though.
