  • Best four-piece drummer EVER!!!

  • one of my favorite drummers

  • i heard him on NPR say his idol is JOEY JORDISON

    HELL YEA

  • i heard him on NPR say his idol is JOEY JORDISON

    HELL YEA

  • doh .... was that the ending ... nice work Max lol

  • free concert va bch labor day

  • He does what drummers are supposed to do... groove.. and he is powerful and creative to boot

  • he makes it look effortless

  • Max does not use a click live. He holds that band together. His tempos are solid live.

  • max probably has more than one set of drums...i mean if i had his money...why not right?

  • max is a very good drummer he stays in the pocket, just because hes not breaking sticks on every song doesnt mean he s not good.

  • @jrcr1 Max is like Americas answer to Charlie Watts. He often plays what appears to be simple, but he serves the music 100%. He has plenty of chops and consummate musician skills to play rock, jazz, pop, blues etc. He's very versatile all around. Just because he isn't flailing like Travis Barker or constatnly playing double kick 32nd notes doesn't detract from his ability of professionalism.

  • @Acrylicdrums i wasn't, i too am a drummer and realize his professionalism, after all, drumming in its simplest form is simply meant to keep time and max does great job, i never did discredit him at all. personally i really enjoy the old school buddy rich, louis bellson, gene krupa style and max has a style close to that

  • @jrcr1 I was reinforcing your post...because too many people are dismissing him. I have seen Max tear up some bigband and like Louis... very much the musician first.

  • @Acrylicdrums yes too many "drummers" forget that, and have to show off every chance they get, they are musicians first and are part of a band.

  • @jrcr1 Even one of the technical masters, Thomas Lang said "If I tried to audition and played like I did at a clinic, I'd never get the gig." Plenty of bands are ignoring the sheer pyrotechnics of some drummers when they don't groove and fit. Not many bands outside of metal for example, have any use for double kick "Duggida duggida" and WFD speed playing.

  • @jrcr1 max actually can do more than 'keep rythym'. He rarely gets a chance but ive seen him fukin tear it up on Conan before. Like he can fully tear it up like a metal-head.

  • @jayrobson88 i agree, like i said on my 1st comment just cause he's not going absolutely nuts doesn't mean he s not phenomenal, max looks to me to be a jazz core drummer if you can play jazz in my book your better than a metal drummer, you have to play the drums not murder them!

  • @jayrobson88 When you say, "tear it up like a metal head," I guess you just mean "he can play fast." Because what Max Weinberg can really do is leagues beyond what most "metal heads" do on the drums, so it's a little unfair to Max to say something like "he can tear it up like a metal head."

  • I love max to death. But it's evident he can't play on time without a metronome in his ear. He uses one live, and in the early days of the E Street Band, Bruce criticized him for not being able to play on time. But still a great drummer, one of the best in rock history. And he has a new DW set? I guess he left his white marine pearl ones in California with Conan!

  • I don't think it's a problem..even if he plays with a metronome live..

  • The problem is that he's playing to a backing track. Have you tried to follow a recording when you're playing the drums? It's fucking hard, because you can't hear anything once you start bashing away

  • @Etwizzy99 that was Mad Dog Lopez who couldn't play in time.. Max has always been great at keeping time, he is Mighty Max after-all the human metronome. It's in Clarence's book.. Mad Dog was the one who couldn't keep time.

  • Yeah Mad Dog Lopez was just atrocious, but here's an excerpt from "Greetings from E Street", a book about the band.

"Weinberg suffered an acknowledged 'drumming slump' around 1980, and his time-keeping skills were criticized by Springsteen.[26] What could pass unnoticed in concert became apparent on record, and Weinberg practiced drumming components for months in order to regain a fine sense of timing."

  • What was this video from?

  • Yeah it appears to be Max playin to the cd version?? Possibly a wknd. corporate gig? And to all of these sad folks dissin Max....unfortunately these type never "get it." They think that drumming is a contest where Neil Peart who plays too many notes all the time wins. Restraint is a "deep" and soulful subject that Max and Al Jackson and Jim Keltner "get." Sorry ya missed that train..but good luck w- yer iddbiddy lives!

  • anybody can bang cymbals where is a real drummer like keith moon when you need him ,,,

  • The drumming on this is pathetically simple. Max is no Neil Peart. Hahaha!

  • Yeah, doing some Neil Peart fills would add to the song. ; )

  • you misspelled ruin

  • have you seen his jazz drumming?

  • You are pathetically obvious, and Bruce Springsteen is no Rush.

  • @MrDeppness You should check him out on Born in the USA live in Barcelona with Bruce Springsteen. There's a part where the band goes into a jam after the solo, Max busts out with some of his drumming skills.

  • Interesting video. And I agree with Percussophile.

  • Most people don't think about this guy as a great drummer but he's insane.

  • You're right. Most people can't comprehend what a great drummer he is. The one's who don't appreciate him are usually drummers who don't know anything about playing. Max is amazing.

  • The craziest thing about his playing is he holds his sticks the traditional way. He's playing a set while holding his sticks like he's marching.

  • Bro hate to tell ya but that traditional grip is how the original drumkit players played. Look at Buddy RIch and Gene Krupa. If you notice they even tilt their snares in to fit the grip. Match grip came along later on.

  • Yeah you're right but I could never play that way...there aren't many people sitll around that can

  • Check out Stewart Copeland.

  • Max is the man.
