  • Hi. I think I met you at the last clinic in New Glasgow.

I wonder why you started towards the right instead of the left. Poetic licence? Any time I do this kata, I always turn to the left. You are doing it in mirror image, I believe.

Other than that, it's not my place to offer an opinion on your performance.

  • You strike me as a person who is aware of his weaknesses, which is necessary before achieving true strength. Takes humility and discipline to do that, I salute you. Osu!

Had the opportunity to see Hanshi William Dometrich at a DNBK ceremony back in Aprl. His wife and he received their official Hanshi and Kyoshi certifications from Tesshin Hamada(head of my school) . There were also other top Chito-ryu instructors who performed excellent and strong kata. I was very impressed.

  • Thanks! If one thinks they have reached the pinnacle and have nothing else to learn they didn't notice that they are only part way up the mountain ;)

It is always nice to watch someone who has much more skill than yourself as it gives you something which to aspire!

  • Hey I am a person who is about to begin to study Chito Ryu karate (under Willie Elliot of the NKU karate club, perhaps you know him?). It looks like you are a black belt in it. I was wondering if you might have any tips or advice for somebody just starting out in it. Thanks!

  • Hey, Bill.

No, I don't know Sensei Elliot. I study Chito-Ryu in Canada and haven't had the opportunity to visit your area.

I think you've made a fine choice with Chito-Ryu as it's a well rounded style with a large and interesting curriculum.

The best advice I could give is to be patient and work hard. It takes a while to achieve some skill and everyone learns at a different pace. Just remember that everyone you see in the dojo once started right where you did.

    Best regards, Glenn

  • Thanks.
