  • Shaky hands!!

  • is not that the biggest ship in the world?

  • thats one rusty pice of ship!!!

  • Camera work of a retard

  • terrifingly cool

  • That thing is terrifying and awesome

  • R.I.P Knock Nevis =/

  • F.Y.I. the Knock Nevis was the Jahre Viking During the Iraci war there was an attempt to disable and sink her, She was sold to a British company who dry docked her for repairs and after 200 tons of new steel and over 5 miles of piping and an aditional 50 ft in length She was cristened the JAHRE VIKING

  • Wow, these are excellent videos - yes a little rough - but they capture this giant perfectly.

You can see from your videos that in truth she had seen better days, and was a bit rough inside compared to a new ship.

All the same, her demise is a loss to the world of shipping.

  • This ship has now been scraped.

  • most people would know that keeping the camera still would make a better less annoying video

  • 5.5 miles that needed to stop from full speed of around 16 knots bloody crazy

  • do u have tens of milions of dollar to buy it ? :D

  • @matamatamata thens? HUNDREDS my friend , hundred millions of dollars, or even euros,

but there will be always bigger ships

  • @itsnotfunnyHAHA i don´t think an old rusty ship like this would cost more than 100 millions, even though its big

  • @markhellstone yeah but 100 million dollars are pretty much, and then think of the money needed to keep it maintained

  • I understand that she was probably old and expensive and etc so they broke it up, but what I can't understand is why they've renamed her FIVE times in her life! Personally I find "Seawise Giant" to be the most proper name - what was so wrong about it that it had to be changed?

  • @Ferom79 it doesent matter;) it was still norwegian owned;)

  • Chuck norris out in his boat!

  • @hearts76100 Not chuck;) Lars Monsen on his fishing trip! Its norwegian u know:)

  • @TheLyngen

    Hahahaha.......

I much prefer good old Chuck though.

  • doesnt look that big on other videos... but it looks fucking gigantic in this.

  • Imagine if your boat broke down when you passed in front of it

  • omg, imagine a Libian terrorist torpedo boat attack.

    One torpedo. BOOOOM!!!

  • JESUS GOD

  • Nick from the Beachcombers bought it on the quiet from the Indians and now cruises in her along the Canadian coast pickin up driftwood. Nick was the originally intended buyer, but when the TV series began he didn't have the time to float her so the deal fell through. Yes, Nick was Greek.

  • She is no more , all cut to pieces.

  • Can someone please explain why is it so low, so sunk in when at sea?

  • @Milten36 the weight of the oil lowers the ship. In this video she was empty, or near empty

  • @Milten36 In this film the ship is without cargo - so it is empty.

When fully loaded it will transport 564000 tons of oil - so more than half a million tons - that kind of weight will push anything down - that's why it's so low in the other movies.

Fully loaded it sticks deeper than 24 meters in the water - this is too deep for the Suez Canal and even the English Channel. Truly amazing these giants, although tankers like these look much better when they are pushed all the way down.

  • Dumbfoundingly huge... I saw in another video the captain said it takes 5 and a half miles to stop from 16 knots...

  • lol you could dry-dock a cruiseship on that mofo :O

build a museum arround it xD :P

  • Big big big ship

  • Ships are sold and bought in the open market. The previous owner probably put the ship on sale after he no longer needed it and the highest bid came from the scrapyard. The metal in the ship is, after all, worth quite a lot, and recycling is good for the environment (except in Alang).

  • and she has quite the history

  • They could make it a drag strip, it's the perfect length.

  • someone needs to find the ship b4 its scrapped & document it with a HD vidcam

  • @thetrolone The scrapping is almost done, less than half of the ship remains.

  • Have a look at films posted on the Knock Nevis - much better quality than these of mine

  • @thetrolone too late! check out midship century. it makes me both mad and sad!!! r.i.p jahre viking xxx!

  • @thetrolone Its scrapped already,

  • i still don't see how a grant from the lottery couldn't save great ships like the ones mentioned. the lack of respect shown towards the big 'u' from ncl is disgraceful! hope everyone out there is contiuing to boycott them! r.i.p ss france too! tried to raise the funds to visit the jahre viking in alang but from england you are talking £800 just for the flight! - someone please tell me how i can at least witness this great piece of maritime history in a more affordable way!!!

  • i gree with thehofff1982 they should save it or trie to have it donated as a museum or something like that

  • @redtitan75, do you have any idea how much it would cost to maintain a ship of that size even as a static display? Also, even the scrap value of the tanker is insane, so no-one would've wanted to donate it.

  • @tupsumato So i take it we shouldn't bother preserving anything because of the costs involved. i'm so glad all the museums in the world don't think the same way, "lets get rid of all these egyptian relics and dinosaur bones because our last electricity bill was a bit steep"!

  • @thehoff1982, of course not. However, the cold fact is that money is also needed, and with something like this the bill is simply too big. We're talking about phone numbers here. People are having hard time saving more famous ships like SS United States because of the costs involved, and here we couldn't prevent GTS Finnjet from being scrapped in Alang.

  • @thehoff1982, however, I think it would be great to preserve a part of the ship that gives out the insane size of it, like the propeller.

  • Because money ? all the freighters are not build for fun but for making money and this is a part of it ;)

  • why is no-one doing anything to save the largest ship in history? she is more than just metal to be broken up and sold!

  • @thehoff1982

    Idk

i guess they have no care for it :/

  • @thehoff1982 she hasen´t been broked up, she is used like a oil central, but they have removed the engines and stuff like that! but jesus she is mighty!! 485 meters long

  • @plbjim SHE HAS BEEN BEACHED AT ALANG IN INDIA BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO GET ACCURATE UPDATES ON HER. IS THERE NO-ONE ON HERE WHO LIVES NEAR ALANG WHO CAN GIVE US THE LATEST VIDEOS/PICTURES OF HER? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.

  • @thehoff1982, midshipcentury . com has some pics, and if there'll be updates, they're likely to go there.

  • @plbjim, last time I saw pictures of the ship it was already missing its bow...

  • @thehoff1982

the cost of maintaining something of that scale...

  • @Janusha so i guess we should close every museum in the world because of costs? do you keep your telly off in the evening because of cost? this is about maritime heritage - not cost!!!

  • This monstrous rusty behemoth isnt every museum in the world. The practicalies and marketvalue of such a thing isnt exactly compelling. Who would pay to see a rusty beached supertanker.

  • @Janusha well i guess we should bin every egyptian mummy - i mean, they're only pieces of rotting flesh! you prick!!! go burn all your family photos dickhead, they're are only your families memories - you complete twat!!!

  • You should know they found so many egyptian mummys they were sold as fuel for wood burning steam ships and even trains. They found tens of thousands of the things and didnt know what to do with them all. But they burned really well. They used to open egyptian toombs and all kinds of other historic stuff by planting dynamite at the door. History hasnt always been so preserving as today.

  • @Janusha and i guess you want to continue that misguided view of archaeology, good thing many very important artefacts will be preserved long after someone throws your less than historic carcass on the coals of a steam train you complete twat! when you die, what legacy will you leave behind?

  • What Im saying is the logistical issues of preserving a supertanker the size of a village compared to its commercial potential simply isnt viable. Thats by no means disrespecting of history of archeology. its not some ancient relic or 2500 years old temple.

  • @Janusha yeah, and it never will be now! those 2500 year old temples were once just obsolete 30 year old outdated buildings, but someone put historical value and tradition over cost. it takes money to keep anything preserved, how much do you think it costs in security and insurance just for the mona lisa? i'm not saying it wouldn't have been really expensive, but certainly worth the cost of building a dry dock to store it in, people would have paid to come and see her.

  • The Mona Lisa has commercial value. This cup ive got right here doesnt. But ofc.. I should take care of it because in 2000 years it might be worth something. Also while stone and certain materials stand the test of time, metal doesnt.

Jahre Viking and other such things are taken out of service because they are rusting and getting old. Preserving that along with making a drydock. Youre talking 100 million Euros already. They might do it if it was the last of its kind in the world. But it isnt.

  • @Janusha oh really, so there is another ship out there which matches the jahre vikings statistics? what's it called? and btw, yes, you should look after your cup, lol. also, they've done a very good job of preserving stephensons rocket, roman coins, medieval swords, the eiffel tower, the spruce goose and ironbridge! imagine if someone had saved noah's ark! i bet someone like you back then said "it's worth more to us as fire wood, plus it will eventually rot anyway" - if you believe in all that.

  • Why do you think old castles and ruins are... ruins. Because they fell apart? The people of the day.. after the fall of Rome, christians who were opressed by the romans went around preaching doom across europe bringing on whats called the dark ages. They said Romans were punished by god for dabbling in technology and forbidden wisdom. Effectivelly stagnating development in Europe for 1000 years. For 1000 years building tecniques were forgotten.

  • Nothing was invented. Life was just waiting for afterlife. People had no regard for ruins. They went over and took the stones they needed to build their own homes out of. Even the Colliseum in Rome people just picked stones off it. They wouldnt have cared much if it was an invaluable art piece in the future. Infact its only now, this past generations that we have seen any value in old stuff. What happened to all the hundreds of sailships forexample. Those are something to preserve.

  • @thehoff1982 man, it's all about the money , it's illogical to maintain that biggy........

  • @thehoff1982 no she sadly isn't more than scrap metal :/ just the maintenance costs of having her anchored somewhere would probably be like $10k a day..

  • @thehoff1982

True, but on the other hand, it is just shaped metal. We have the ability to build what we like, including another one..

  • @xoio true, but it would only be a replica. would you gho and look at a reprint of the mona lisa?

  • @thehoff1982

Check out the Batillus tankers... nearly as long, but they ARE the Heaviest ships ever created & with slightly more gross tonnage than Jahre King.

  • @thehoff1982 i couldnt agree more! shame its happened now :(

  • @thehoff1982 cuz scrap is worth more

  • @thehoff1982 Yeah, was more than a ship ...

  • Great video

  • bye bye big guy
