  • Jack White is a God.

  • With all the Neil Young comments. To me this sounds like a Zeppelin folk song. Jack sounds like Robert Plant when he sings.

  • @santanaincubus yeah, like something off of Led Zep III.

  • The president should feel honored. Dave Grohl's career goes way back. Jack White is great also. He is performing live for the president. Jealous for the meanies. Critique fairly and have you performed. I have and hearing this made me want to perform something of his and have my husband take my last name.

  • Nice. Throwing in "That Would Be Something" from McCartney (Paul's first album). I like how Jack White is different. I love Eddie Vedder's voice AND Jack White's and they are certainly completely different.

  • Nice. Throwing in "That Would Be Something" from McCartney (his first album).

  • He looks absolutely terrified.

  • @pangborn25 Sir Paul is right in front of him. I would be nervous to sing someone I looked up to song right to them too even if I was as great as Jack.

  • @pangborn25 That's what I thought the first time I watched this, maybe I was projecting what I would have felt in the same situation. I've since changed my mind. I think he did an awesome rendition.

  • I love Jack White, but does anyone else see a resemblance between Jack and Micheal Jackson?

  • "Dude has no singing ability whatsoever." said Brassrat88.

Thats what record execs said about Neil Young in "66".

  • Jack White: The embodiment of everything that is cool.

  • Dude has no singing ability whatsoever.

  • @brassrat88 And he plays the song incorrectly. He sucks

  • @brassrat88 do you? didnt think so.

  • Jack White looks like cream of worm tounge from Lord of the Rings

  • Might have been even better with a different vocalist.

  • what an honor for the president to meet jack white.

  • Jack White. White House. I see what they did thar.

  • Band

  • Jack white and paul McCartney should make a bsnd

  • @boomer3505 Jack White doesn't play wrong chords. He played the exact chords he intended to.

  • this dude is playing some of the chords wrong... at the white house... this cover sucks. i do like how he goes into, "that would be something" though. i have no respect for homeboy. sorry if you like him.

  • @boomer3505 hmm sorry you feel the need to drop all respect for a man who attained the same respect as Jimmy Page and The Edge barely a decade into his career and was asked by a Beatle to play Beatles songs, probably one of the biggest honors you can achieve as popular musician. I seriously doubt he is playing the wrong chord. He is Jack White, expert at multiple instruments, especially stringed ones. Every one chord shape can be played almost ten different ways most of the time.

  • @boomer3505 When actual musicians cover something they make it their own.

  • @boomer3505 There are only 7 different chords, I have a book with 1000 ways to play the 7 chords, there are probably many more, ty good typing though!

  • @boomer3505 he is better than you so f off and go listen your talentless music.

  • @boomer3505 Maybe they're wrong if he was trying to play it exactly like Paul. You are the one who is wrong.

  • hey jack, drop the neutered songs for the prez... try some aunt molly jackson:

" the boss he rides a big white horse

while we walk in the mud

their flags the old red, white and blue

and ours is dipped in blood."

thats a song.. jack, not promo for an english corporation.

  • Jack White in the Whitehouse! YESSS! As pretty as this song is, I would have loved to see him break into icky thump and shake that place UP! It could use it. Great performance though...

  • Damn it! I love him and yet I cant stand him.

  • my fav performance of the night

  • Was tht Obama in the front row too? W/ his wife an daughter I think:O wow!

:3-3 this song makes me feel warm inside Ina funny way e.-3 cx

  • @DESTROYER8Q + McCartney next to him.

  • Gee, anyone who's been within a mile of this man is lucky.

  • Gee, anyone who's been within a mile of this man is a lucky bastard.

  • must be hard for people in the front row to actually see how things are done

  • Oh hai Paul McCartney sitting right there.

  • Jack White looks like Ozzy Osbourne and Michael Jackson had a baby. And then that baby became more awesome then it's bizarre ancestry ever should allowed.

  • wow, I never knew he was THAT white !

  • Talk about killing it. Jack just took ownership of this song right in front of its owner. Make no mistake this is now the definitive version of this song now.

  • @Bhasinish well it was a great amazing cover, but nothing beats the original version of any beatles songs. make no mistake that even jack white would disagree with your statement.

  • HEY EVERYBODY...HEY EVERYONE!...HEY EVERYONE, LOOK! LOOK, EVERYONE! LOOK! ITS JACK WHITE...IN THE 'WHITE' HOUSE!!!

  • That must've been hard for him...having Jack White a few feet away!

  • Hey check out my cover of this :)

  • Pre amble: I cashed in all my karma points and somehow stumbled across this performance when it initially aired..

Does anyone know where to find this in mp3 or even better mp4 format? I'm tired of looking...

  • I hate it when people have to say, "His guitar isn't even in tune." We get that. But punks, he's the only one that can work that. And I agree with Glass Curtain. Didn't you hear what Jack White said in It Might Get loud? Son house opened up the idea to him that music can be anything. You feel it. And Jack White does so silence!!!!

Listen to the sound of real music! Raw and real!

  • @Ritza98 together we can ban auto-tune! lol

  • yea white for the aquiered taste fer sure ... if you know wat im talkin about

  • He shoulda played Ball an a Biscuit.

  • @Gadsdenification that would have been tits

  • @GlassCurtain I am 50 years old an love Jack White but I am female, my daughter says I have an unhealthy crush on him. But I get entranced in his many adventures, I have allways liked him even when he was screaming punk sound white stripes with just Meg. There is something very charming and real to him. Look what he has done with Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson.

I love his new folky adventures.

  • Ugh play it right dammit

  • @blakeandcrap dude its a cover

  • damn. i wish i could marry jack white, but then again im not great enough for him. no one is great enough for jack white

  • Jack White...the NEW man in black!!

  • its gotta be tough playing a song written by paul mccartney in front of paul mccartney...

  • hes a lil nervous =]

  • that brought tears to my eyes...you are the man jack white...playing for our wonderful President Obama. i hope you and the rest of your fans will support him in the upcoming year as i will.

    impressive indeed!!!

    chills and thrills

  • Neil Young digs Jack White.

  • @madeforpron I BET! Jack's amazing.

  • well, that sucked. what a fucking neil young wannabe hack

  • @KingMoses3 you know nothing of jack white, do you?

  • @KingMoses3 no. neil young wants to be him.

  • It's funny when I listen to The Dead Weather and think how twisted, evil and dark their music is (in a good way, of course) and then come hear and listen to Jack White play Mother Nature's Son and I think... he is the greatest man alive. <3

  • This had potential to be great...however it sounds like some one forgot to practice!!! :P

  • I think Jack White is Awesome but he looks like the chick from Twilight in this. Chalk it up to a combination of genetics and bad lighting....plus Twilight and the Government both suck....a lot, it was probably on purpose now that I look back on it.

  • lol they shouldve let me sing it :)

  • he looks so uncomfortable. i don't know why but he just does, even though he did well it doesn't appear like he really liked it up there.

  • @JoshuaRFox For some reason, I think he always looks like that you know? If he is not infront of "his people". I guess that's just how he gets.

  • i scrolled down to look at the comments and thought i heard robert plant come on stage......nope just jack white wow lol this was good

  • ...interpretation children..interpretation...

  • @dogbreathjesus shit man. If I go up on stage and say "This is my interpretation of Beethoven's 9th symphony" and then throw up, fart and leave the stage, are you going to respect that as an honest interpretation? That's what this was

  • @tpstrat14 I would applaud someone throwing up and farting on stage and leaving

  • This was on PBS!?!?!

  • This flat out sucks! Way to ruin a great song Jackie Boy!

  • @bigchippie1 thank God for people like you. I'm so glad that you see how totally shitty this is. I mean, not only did he sing like total shit, he changed the entire song.... for the worse obviously...

  • Making the song your own infront of the writer??? Awesome

  • He kind of looks like Smeagol.

  • holy shit that was horrible. He tried.... I guess... but holy GOD that was terrible. Please take me away to Paul McCartney and the beatles' mother nature's son!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude is fucking amazing....

  • Wow, that's gotta be tough playing in front of the President and his family :) But, in the long run Jack will still be famous and they will be gone .

  • @Discerner1999 Nevemind playing infront of some president. He's playing this infront of the creator of one of the prettiest songs ever written.

  • @Discerner1999 agreed, but seems harder to play Paul McCartney's song in front of Paul McCartney. y'think?

  • @Discerner1999 That and playing Paul McCartney's song with him sitting about three feet in front of you.

  • the reason i totally dig jack is because he will do his thing the way he wants to in front of ANYBODY, ANYTIME. every artist should have this attitude . just do what you do, always, and let things happen from there. you cant control who will like what you do, you can only control what you are. trust me, i have been unpopular for 20 years and loved every minute of it.

  • Jack White sucks

  • @ladil0lip0p why?

  • I love Jack White. GOBAMA!

  • I never thought Jack and Obama would ever be in the same room. Well, I'll be.

  • It would be nice to hear an album version, I do however like the somewhat nasal/ gritty tone live its great!

  • I think if this guy was at an open mike and you didn't know who he was, this would be, at best, mediocre. Singing and playing are OK, not great.

  • @altriego1 I totally agree, at least with this performance here. People praise this guy a bit too much lol This act is really not that great. I suppose if you're a die hard fan, then any performance is awesome and I get that. But I can't see how anyoen views this as "god-like".

  • wow... that was total shit.... i have to go listen to the beetle's version 50 times now to wash the horrid taste out of my mouth....

  • @tpstrat14 -paul seemed to like it as witnessed by his actions at 01:46, but you would know better, being the ardent "beetles" fan that you are.

  • @tpstrat14 Paul is about 5 feet away from Jack... that must be nerve racking. But, even though Jack White doesn't have the vocal ability of the Beetle, he sure has enough emotion to back up anything he sings. This is generally the reason I dislike pop: all voice, no emotion. Song means nothing to the audience if it means nothing to the singer.

  • I understand he's a professional musician and probably doesn't get stage fright anymore. But to play this song infront of Paul McCartney and not shit yourself is impressive

  • This version was good, but it became great when Jack threw in "That Would Be Something".

  • He should have sang "One in a Million" by Guns N' Roses.

  • @drewbehr hahahhaha

  • Best part is the "do do do dos"

  • Obama: "why is that poor boy so pale?"

  • @BigNeeto McCartney: "he's actually a whiter shade of pale."

  • man i dont know about you guys but i was paul McCartney i would have told jack after he finished to play icky thump, that song owns!

  • Jack White needs to sign Hollywood Kill!!!! 'Come on, Hollywood Kill is Psychowave music... totally would kill it.

HKAnonimous youtube channel. Check out the BBC Interview in London

  • no pressure but if you mess up one chord the presidents watching

  • @grevejp44 rofl. But the prez supposed to be a chill dude, right? Maybe he'll let it go. He's also a mouthy president, so he might call it out too. lawl

  • wow...he's one of those guys where you're curious what song he picks because he's going to show you what a great song it really is.

  • A modern day, Male version of Janis Joplin. She was reborn as Jack White lol

  • Jesus! Is it weird that I have a man crush on Jack White? His music is just so raw and perfect. I loved the documentary "It Might Get Loud". He's a true musician. He feels it, unlike all these auto-tuned pop artist.

It's one thing to know the notes. It's another thing to FEEL the notes...like they know you.

  • @GlassCurtain Right there with ya hahaha

  • @GlassCurtain For reals! He's like the exception when it comes to performing songs created by others. He makes them even better! Like: Wayfaring Stranger and Jolene, for example. Rare quality to take a classic and put a higher beautiful spin on the song. If it weren't for Jack White, Generation X would have very little gifted leadership in the musical arena. The baton has passed to him.

  • @GlassCurtain lol man crush... you just won a spot in heaven fer that comment lmao

  • LOVE HIM! Way better than most people live.

Whoever keeps hating on JW needs to stop being asshole critiques. So, you dont like him. OH DAMN WELL! Dont bash on him, some of us like him and dont want to hear your shit. Thank you.

  • I NEED THAT FUCKING GUITAR!!!!!!!!

  • LOVE!!!

  • One of my favorite Beatles songs sung by one of my favorite musicians. Brilliant.

  • How honored Mr. Obama must feel being able to be that close to Jack White!

  • Even Barack Obama looks up to Jack White!!

  • It's like watching Denethor, the Steward of Gondor, play a song :)

  • I like his hair better when it's messy and curly, more than straight, in case anyone cares.

  • Jack White is officially allowed to sing what he likes ... so, of those of you disliked (35) .. he is going to be there at the Pearly Gates :)

  • ahmen sing to me jacki

  • I would take my guitar and bash Obama in the face with it and yell, "Why the fuck are we still invading more countries!?!" Now that's rock and roll.

  • Jack made this song so much his own, I didn't realize right away that this was a Beatles/McCartney song?!:)

  • @hkazzile I guess you haven't heard the original then.

  • What I love about this is how its very much a Mccartney tune but you can hear the White Stripes/Jack White sound clearly too

  • @OpticReaperXx he's sitting next to the president

  • Ouch. Really highlights his vocal flaws.

  • If only Paul McCartney would have been there that would have been nice

  • @OpticReaperXx He was in the front row

  • THE ONLY ONE STANDING BY HIMSELF ONLY HIS VOICE AND HIS GUITAR. THE ONLY TRUE ARTIST IN THE WHOLE THING.

  • whoa the way he went into "that would be something" is so good. i wasn't expecting that at all. McCartney's first album deserves to be right in there with the white album. maybe even more pure than some of his songs on there.

  • @1:50....you can see that Paul McCartney is sitting next to the president listening to Jack White do a very soulful version of one of the best songs he ever wrote...what a trip that would be eh??...:)

    great video.

  • I think John would totally did Jack

  • I love him so much.

  • @beatlesfan4127 that section you're talking about is actually from one of paul mccartney's solo songs, he just combined it because he's god or something like that

  • well said

  • got the lyrics wrong, took unneccicary pauses, and the part at 2:22 - 2:48 isnt even in the real song. but its good that the prez got a chance to listen to beatles

  • @beatlesfan4127

come on man, it's music, don't be one of those snobs

  • @beatlesfan4127 thats whys its a cover people do songs diffrently

  • it is so beneath jack white to cover such a song. Its not like him to debase himself in this way. although he successfully took a pile of shit song and made it shine

  • @jutnie What the hell is your problem. The Beatles version of this song is fantastic, Jack's version is also great, you sound like a total asshole.

  • tht was bad

  • This sucks!! John, George are rolling over in their graves. And Paul and Ringo are just rolling (laughing, maybe).

  • @howlinwolf1759 dude you're an idiot this is good

  • I'm so jealous of the president right now, to be that close to Jack White

  • Jack knows what it's all about. Of you listen to old music with out all of the synthesizers and buffers this is what the originals sounded like. He's a genius for anyone who has a true passion for music. And he doesn't care what modern day music lovers think, it's all about who has influenced him. He's all about the rawness and being real. We all know that his voice isn't amazing but that's what is so great.

  • Still trying to figure out JW's popularity. He sucks here, and also in It Might Get Loud. I don't think I'll ever get the comparison to Jimmy Page or other true talents like Macca or Hendrix. Are we so starved for celebrity? Can someone suggest something he's done that shows off his talent?

  • @BermondseySteve The reason Jack White is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time is his originality. Jack is not a guitarist, hes a drummer, that was kinda forced to play guitar. He's not like Malmsteen who can shred at over 300 BPM. His music is the most soul full music today, if not possibly ever. Look up blue veins, and click on the first video you see. Watch the whole thing and then get back to be, with your opinion of him

  • @BermondseySteve Live and let live...

  • Love him, his unique style and his respect for other artist, specially his elders.

  • Is there a recording of this available somewhere?

  • Jack is the musical version of Chuck Norris! he kicks butt!

  • He sounds like Led Zeppelin

  • @santanaincubus u mean Robert Plant. Plant had a voice that could resonate above the power of Page and Bonhams musical thunder, Whites good but not that good.

  • @santanaincubus Thats what I thought, too.

  • And, that, ladies and gentlemen, is why they call it the "White" house.

  • outstanding performance

    What this pending approval sh*t!?!?!!?!

  • outstanding

  • Jack White. I'm sorry but you completely destroyed that song.

  • why cant i post??

  • I like how his voice is just a perferct match for that song

  • Awesome performance...He look really pale, is it make up?

  • @Darkninjacl Yep.

  • such a rare guitar

  • i'm in love.

  • he was the best of the night for me!!!

    NAILED IT!

  • This is awesome. Jack is the man. Talk about a one of a kind performer.

  • @mflohr1531 obamas probably like umm wheres usher his kids kids probably dont even know who the white stripes are
