  • And, he was very good on stage. I have seen innumerable Boheme's, with many of the greats. But one I remember most clearly was at NYC Opera, when LoMonaco subbed in a performance. The staging and his acting, particularly in Act IV as the others leave Rodolfo and Mimi alone, was perhaps the most touching thing I have seen in opera.

  • @operafan65 I wish I would have seen that!! Thanks for sharing.

  • Impresionate interpretacion de una obra tan dificil por una voz de este calibre.

    Bravo Bravo Bravo.

  • Jerry was not overlooked by the record companies. Search for the Philips label recording of I Lombardi. There he is in all his glory. I studied with him at Illinois State University from 1879 - 82. Yes, if it wasn't for his medical condition he would have been a major player in the opera world. Did you ever hear recordings of his bother? Voice as black as the night, I would put it. Reminded me of Del Monaco even more than Jerry.

  • @vankir301 I agree. And yes, I studied with Jerry's brother for years. :^)

  • @MrCafiero It would be wonderful to hear Tom Lo Monaco.Jerry sounds wonderful here.I'm assuming you new Joe&Nick Gr_n_t_ and perhaps Jack Z_ng_r_.They were great people.

  • BRAAAAAAAAAVO!

  • Holy crap listen to the ring on that C#. Out of this world.

  • Another excellent singer who was overlooked by the recording

    companies.

    Tnx 4 the post.

  • Great power, tone, and line indeed!

  • BRAVO!!! I am so thrilled to hear this incredible voice again! Jerry was my teacher and was a paragon of vocal technique and longevity. I recorded him singing three selections back in November of 1997 when he was 72 years old and he sounded as fresh voiced as a youngster! Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Do you still have those recordings? I would love to hear them. I have some of him in his 60's.

  • Oh, yes, I still have them. Jerry sings "'A vucchella" and "L'alba separa dalla luce l'ombra", both by Tosti, and one verse of "Tu, ca nun chiagne" by de Curtis. The final song is sung in a ridiculously high key, complete with an incredible high C! I would be happy to share these with you if you'd like.

  • Oh yes, I would *LOVE* to hear them. Thank you so much.

  • @warnie1 by Jerry you mean Jerome, right? Do you think you could post those recordings?
