  • I just love this song!!!! I recently heard a version of tis by Irish Soprano Ruth Kelly-Brady,she has a superb voice! check her out on iTunes... you won't be disappointed!

  • It's funny how they fall in love with one single gaze... but a great movie still!:D

  • So I'd watched this video quite a few times before, because of the gorgeous music, but I'll admit I hadn't actually seen West Side Story until a few months ago. First time I saw it was when the music was being done live by the Chicago Symphony! I was blown away by everything. So gorgeous.

  • OMG WHO CARES WHAT YEAR IT IS!!!!!!!! :)

  • -0-

  • @CrystalMatthews93 lol I know right!

  • @okiud Lea michele never really played maria. She sang her songs but Lea never really played her. We still haven't seen her play, play Maria

  • pussy**

  • if he killed my brother, his ass is not getting no ussy WHAT SO EVER!!

  • 65 people couldn't find that place.

  • I will be watching this for the first time next week because my music teacher is getting married. I'm excited!

  • R.I.P. Natalie Wood but she was a horrible actress.

  • God who cares who bring you here? The important fact is a GREAT Song! >.< <3

  • Oh, the reason I'm here is because there's a minor 7th in it, and my theory teacher is always singing it. Yep.

  • @iHearInColor That's the exact reason I came here too haha being a friggin music major is great!

  • @AngryNewb Same here! Exam time eh?

  • @wildernessboy92 Hey guys, a better -7 song is Nada Surf's Popular. Can't miss that -7 if it hit you with a bus. It's the whole first minute of the song.

  • This video brought me here (Dartmouth Aires swan song from The Sing-Off): /watch?v=3G5LRNVR59E

  • Easily the greatest Broadway score of all time for my money - too bad that Richard Beymer was not a real singer - can you imagine what this would have sounded like with James Ingram singing his part? This is simply one of the most beautiful songs of all time if not THE MOST beautiful of all time.

  • Glee did not bring me here. This is one of my mom's favorite movies-I grew up with it, and this has always been one of my favorite songs. In fact I'm going to sing it in my audition for A Cappella choir this spring, and I came here for a guide on the RIGHT way it should be sung, not Glee's.

I also love Barbra Streisand's version though.

  • Thumbs up if Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto, 2nd Movement brought you here...

  • Beautiful :)<3

  • Its a beautiful song

  • I came here to see the old version after watching IL Divo sing it live on the Barcelona DVD. I love WSS, the movie. It was popular when I was a little girl. What a classic!

  • such a beautiful song!

  • GLEE covered it for the anniversary this month. For that, thank you Glee directors. But they didn't meet the intensity (as was noted in the Glee script) as is here. Jimmy Bryant and Marni Nixon sang it beautifully. Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer acting was right on point.

  • Leonard Bernstein, Oscar and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Weber created music that will last for all eternity.

  • I personally think that this is better than the Glee version, I just didn't like the arrangement of the music and the drum beat put me off a bit. But I DO think that their version of A Boy Like That was excellent :D

  • @CoronadoPaola How can you say Glee's version is better? You might enjoy it more but it is not any better or worse for that matter. I personally think that both versions are equally amazing because they are both sung by amazing singers with passion.

  • @CoronadoPaola

    You're such a noob.

  • There is still some beauty left in this world. That song is amazing!

  • RIP Natalie. I hope they can prove who killed you.

  • Not ever Glee fan hasn't seen this musical, you know... I like Glee but of course the original blows Glee's cover out of the water.

  • We're doing this show at my school (we open tomorrow! so excited!) and, I'm not gonna lie, I started crying onstage. Especially at the "wedding" bit. (For those who have only seen the movie, "Somewhere" is much longer in the stage show.)

  • People only think Lea Michele can play this role because she says she can. The real truth is she couldn't. The make it believe that she can but seriously compare this to people? Which one is playing it better. She just doesn't fit the role. She sang really good in glee at it but she's not Maria.

  • Since I was a kid watching this, as soon as they finished singing this song, I didn't know what they actually DID after, but you can clearly see.

  • glee brought me here , and what's wrong? i don't understand all this fury, glee's cover is a way like another to know the original!

  • It's okay if Glee brought you here as long as you're not a bandwagoner who just "loves" West Side Story so you can say you "love" it.

  • wouldnt anita hear them singing...

  • pshh glee aint got nothing on this

  • love this movie no wonder it won the oscar!!

  • I Cant lie i do Not LIKE This version..although the characters can sing i still hate it..

  • I knew it because of the Barbra Streisand movie, A Star is Born, so one big actress led to another and I got to know the song was from West Side Story. Glee did a good cover, so it's not fair in my opinion to say they were bad just because this version beats its ass, although we all know it does.

  • at least it's bringing people here. West Side Story is such a great show. It doesn't matter to me how people get to see it as long as they do and love it as much as it deserves.

  • OH MY GOD WHO CARES WHY YOU CAME HERE.

  • Such an annoying accent

  • It's a song...... am I just completely missing the reason for Glee hatred? Does it matter?

  • Does it really matter if glee brought you here? It brought me here and I love this song so stop the bitching

  • I have no idea what glee is, but if it brought people here, it must be a good thing.

  • BASTARD STOLE THIS FROM BEETHOVEN 5TH PIANO CONCERTO 2ND MOVEMENT.

  • i hate how glee steals songs from everything D:<

  • @hayabusa117239 Glee doesn't steal from anything. They have to pay for every song they cover and put on iTunes.

  • the first time I actually heard this song is from Celtic woman singing it than I watched this musical with friends.

  • Natalie Wood was stunning

  • @TheSami1973 She only played Maria she didn't sing in West Side Story at all!

  • @taniaesparza09 No she didn't but actually she can sing. She sang in Gypsy Rose Lee. :oD

  • I love Glee and West Side Story, and I did way before Glee covered it. the glee version was good but i really don't think it was better than this. this is the original and it's perfect, and this is in context, whereas in the glee storyline they just sung it, and that's what makes this version the complete best. this is a true musical and if you can't appreciate that then you shouldn't really be watching glee. :P

  • how did natalie wood not win an oscar

  • loveee this film(musical)

    this song is incredible!!

and i would love to hear and see blaine and rachael do this song(scene) <3 they have great chemistry like there two beautiful legends xx

  • @melissalovesjls cos he stole it from beethoven

  • @beastinblack who stole what from beethoven??

  • I don't mind that Glee has opened people's minds to amazing musicals like this (in my opinion one of the best musicals, except maybe Phantom) it just annoys me that some people are now like omg i love west side story when they haven't seen the musical and are just going through the glee song.....This is a classic piece of cinema and musical and I feel everyone needs to see it one point in their life <3

  • O.k Tony was LUSH..

  • One of the great actress of all times, Natalie Wood. Such talent, such beauty, there will never be another one like you ever!! You are missed and not forgotten. You will always live on in your movies.

  • poor maria......

  • maybe this isn't the RIGHT TIME yet Babe. but I want you to know that SOMEWHERE, SOMETIME in the future, I really pray and wish that I'll see your face again... I love you so much. Pls take care of yourself always.

  • Thumbs up if Glee didn't bring you here!

  • @GimmeMORE313 I came here because I'm singing this in singing class, and I wanted to hear the original. :)

  • If Wagner were to sell the boat his late wife fell from, some necrophilic Arab billionaire would probably buy it. But, as Wagner is a wealthy American and probably a Republican, he'll settle for a million bucks for a quick sale. He probably doesn't need the money but he won't refuse it anyway.

  • During the shooting of this movie, Natalie Wood was probably the star. She would have been more famous than all her co-stars put together. But why did she not see eye to eye with Richard Beymer? Was she afraid he would eclipse her? Was she one of those uneducated divas who thinks she owns the world? Good Lord, even Princess Dians wasn't like that (or was she? I doubt it).For all her fame, Ms Wood is now a heap of rotten bones in a boneyard somewhere. Did Robert Wagner sellthe ill-fated boat?

  • @squirell1952 umm seriously? what the hell is wrong with you? why would you even write that on here??

  • @squirell1952 that's terrible!!!! how can you say such a horrible thing???

  • this song made me cryyyyy !

  • Minor Sevenths! :D

  • this is just the most wonderful song in this movie. im a skateboarder that nos like every lil wayne song off the top of my head. but i also like this kind of music, musicals are the best kind of movies there are. and i dont give a damn about what no one says

  • come on guys look right julie andrews. barbara streisand, many people sing this song. and now we add the fabulous idna!! she is awesome

  • You know, I'd really appreciate it, if after every episode Glee fans wouldn't bombard the originals with "GLEE BROUGHT ME HERE I LOVE LEA MICHELE."

  • @rockercharmz888 i know it may be irritating but i think its great. many kids have no interest in musicals. so if glee brought them here to appreciate a great one, then i think it is awesome. i hope more young kids come to musical sites to listen and appreciate.great musicals.

  • @brnigrlfl624 I'm all for exposure, but when they come here, basically destruct the comments page into a Glee fansite, and go on about how the Glee cover is better (check any song that Darren Criss has ever covered)? It becomes disrespectful and people just don't know their place after a while.

  • @rockercharmz888 i'm with you

  • i came here for glee

  • The concept is beautiful but the singing is terrible they have trouble with pitch flow & I can assure you, we the masses are not all tone deaf.

Wonderful movie great story & dancing ruined by featured vocals having the maturity of 12 years olds.

  • @JuanCubaNation thanks for reminding me that i have to watch the new glee!

  • I second @JuanCubaNation. Glee makes me roll my eyes sometimes, but you can't deny that if one song every episode is like this one, they're doing something right.

  • historic magic best<3<3<3

  • Like if you loved/knew this song before Glee covered it!

  • @emdd09 Watch out for hipsters everyone!! They're coming!!

  • @emdd09 There's nothing wrong with that. It's even better that Glee is giving this amazing song publicity. Everybody should hear it.

  • @MrRapewayz101 I figured as much...

  • Breath-taking

  • @MrRapewayz101

Do you know this from personal experience?

  • @Slhssentinel1 Why yes i do

  • @Slhssentinel1 HAhAHAHAHHAHA :D:D:D:D Good one

  • Those saying Idina Menzel isn't better than this are crazy.

  • Glee will NEVER beat the original. This production is to much of a classic for them to be messing around with it.

  • i take it glee did this song recently then... if there's any glee fans reading this.. can i just say.. you're gay

  • what's glee?

  • hey friends...let's stop it? Yea? haha okay...stop comparing Glee to this. Glee can't compare. sorry.

I personally love Glee, I'm a huge gleek. I just hate people comparing it to classics like that.

  • ....Why are all the comments about Glee? Im not hating on the Gleeks or anything but cant we just enjoy this version without comparing them..?

  • Well Glee has done a wonderful job of bringing music to another generation, but I must differ some, Lea michele is a once in a generation voice, its not an easy song to sing in the first place then then be able to sell it, Lea does both.

  • I'm glad Glee chose such an amazing piece of music to have--although I prefer the original Bernstein orchestration. Maybe this will get people to be more involved/look up Bernstein and realize what a genius he was--the arrangement in Glee doesn't show the complexity of Bernstein's writing, which this does. I hope everyone can hear and appreciate the mixed meter genius of Bernstein.

  • Yes Bravo glee ! 'till last year i never heard of west side story journey or grease !

  • @MrSaadinhio

    Umm are you freaking serious.

  • @AnimeStargrl15 Hha yup i am ! i have one question what did i say i forgot XD

  • @MrSaadinhio You said that you've never seen West Side Story or Grease before Glee introduced it, and I almost exploded. How can you have not seen those classics before Glee?

  • @AnimeStargrl15 ow yeah ! well i discovered those classics with glee and a lot of other as dirty dancing or hairspray :D and i didin't before 'cause i didn't know their existence ! :D

  • @MrSaadinhio

    *Faints*

  • @MrSaadinhio you should set up an account on Pandora and create a station called Broadway Musicals, Broadway classics, etc and just have a field day. Your life will be changed.

  • @fairy4me oh i already cdid and you were right my lave changed :D

  • Glee is never has better as the original West Side Story! Even if they murder the song or not!

  • West Side Story > Glee

  • So practically all of the original cast were dubbed?!

  • For me, glee didn't serve this justice. The song is about desperation and vain hope, not belting and trying to compliment your own voice. It's supposed to be simple, not stylized.

  • When I first watched this movie I was extremely annoyed. After watching it a second time I didn't like it, but it wasn't annoying anymore. :/

  • The people who like the glee version better and are glee fans that have never heard of West Side Story are uncultured and don't know good covers and music period!!!!' :)

  • @888tho really? I've been watching West Side Story since I was little but I am also a fan of Glee. I know good music, thank you. Many people have many different taste in music. Me, I listen to everything from Classical to present day music of every genre. I can find something to appreciate in every genre. Cover or not.

  • @888tho i just find comments like these funny...cuz aren't there amazing cultured ppl who have been on Broadway that are on Glee? Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris....

  • What is this wet sensation on my face? Am I actually crying?

  • @Eiraqucam No. I just came. :)

  • @TheKnickKnack123456

Did you check first if I was a guy or a twelve year old girl before you made such a douchebag loser comment?

  • @Eiraqucam No because I honestly couldn't give a shit about what A COMMENT says, since it's just text and I don't over and start fights on the INTERNET, and neither should you. So actually, by you responding, in your own words, You are "a douchebag loser". Thank you for your time. :)

  • @TheKnickKnack123456 I may have been asking for it for phrasing "wet" and "sensation" together in a sentence but you're still a loser. The fact that you seem to think your above internet fights and yet instigate them makes you an idiot also.

  • totally GLEE version (:

  • I prefer Glee version

  • omg whats wrong with her voice?!!??!1

  • @Kermi hahahahahaha was thinking the same thing

  • @Kermi Nothing wrong with her voice. That seemed to be the style at the time. I personally thought it was overdramtic. And just think, that isn't even Natalie Wood's voice. She was dubbed over because her voice wasn't good enough. It was actually Marni Nixon's voice. :/

  • Celtic Woman. `-`

  • ehh, I love musicals but I don't stick to things just cuz they were made first. I stay open minded and I think that the glee rendition was much better.

Now the i feel pretty one is a different story, glee made it horribly depressiveD:

They should've done that anger management style!!xD

  • i still dont understand how the hell maria could have sex wit tony when he just killed her brother

  • No doubt, Glee will NEVER be able to pull off a perfect musical rendition. When I heard Rachel say this musical, I jumped on my couch. I was afraid they were going to ruin it, though I love them, but Lea and Rachel were wonderful. I nevertruly understood why they had Anybodys sing it in the Broadway show ad Tony and Maria in the movie.. I love Anybodys. Fave. Her acting is amazing!

  • The version on GLEE is a is an arrangement made famous by Barbra Streisand :)

  • Comment removed

  • Remember guys - GLEE is not trying to be BETTER - they are bringing music like this to a generation that doesnt know it - to people who have never heard of this amazing music - and now they will - BRAVO glee - instead of doing all britney and gaga they choose to do REAL AMAZING MUSIC - BRAVO!!!

  • @JuanCubaNation Beautiful! brilliant comment ! Bravo!...

  • @JuanCubaNation It was an awesome comment, until the end.

  • @JuanCubaNation Agree with youu 100 %

  • @JuanCubaNation Amen! Thank you!

  • @JuanCubaNation Ughhh people are comparing the two again? I'm glad people like you understand that they're not competing against the the originals.

  • @JuanCubaNation I hope you equally take Glee to task when they do cover Britney and Gaga.

  • @JuanCubaNation all i know is that if i hear Rachael trying to BELT out I Feel Pretty, i might actually explode. just. NO.

  • Glee's cover doesn't even compare

  • @lalaurenvictoria I agree. Even thought I love Glee, it's just not as good or as passionate. Glee does decent renditions of songs from musicals, but I always think the song from the musical itself is better.

  • @Ilikequiche101 While I don't think they protrayed this kind of assion to the song on Glee, I still believe lea and idina did an amazing job and did a great rendition, protraying a different kind of passion to the song.

  • @Ilikequiche101 I agree, their rendition of this song was no where near as passionate, but i still love glee :)

  • Natalie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the movies I am crying again and again when I watch it! Love is such a beautiful und miracleous thing! And allthough I have never been really loved by a women with all her heart and mind in my life I still believe that I will experience this "feeling" in my very own "someday"......

  • I really like the Glee cover but I also really like the original version. They're both breathtaking!

  • I want to find my somewhere.

  • So this is the song glee is going to cover?I just listened to all the songs from this movie and i don't like any of the songs Tony and Maria sing :]

  • @david99821 I love this song and I personally can't wait till Friday (FIRST LISTEN FRIDAY!!!)

  • @Bakaneko815 totally not true!!! They're broadway songs are fantastic!

  • @Bakaneko815 I wish I could butcher u :)

  • @ChiquisLc13 someone needs some anger management classes

  • Glee is gonna cover this song!

  • @LoneAsianCajun thats not a bad thing at all!

  • Singing this in chorus. I'm so freaking excitedddd.

  • They're not just singing about each other, they're also singing about how someday there will be peace in this world. This always makes me cry. But it also makes me happy in a way because I know that somehow, someday, somewhere, there will be peace <3

  • best musical ever

  • @26greenrose gay...

  • @XdASeviX It's okay if you are, I'm sure we're all very accepting here :)

  • Love this movie ...love the song ...classic .....

  • Ugh! Another pathetic excuse of a movie.

  • @MrMrmonsterguy Let's see you win 10 academy awards!
