  • I grew up with this Cash in the hood in Lansdowne.. We used to go over his house and watch him cut whenever he would let us..

best Dj to ever touch a turntable

  • I wonder if there's any 'swing' influence with Cash? when he vocalised along with it the phrasing sounds very horns, almost 'in the mood' glenn millerish type lean, anyone feel me? ps there's no extra points for anyone saying 'do i think cash money's horny'

  • Fucking Awesome!

  • fucking awesome!

  • I've not heard any other DJ able to do a routine like Scratchin to the Funk. 10 mins of highly creative rhythm scratching and an early form of transforming. 99% of Djs today couldn't lay off the Crab or Orbit scratch for more than a minute, or hold the interest.

  • dis cat was advanced in his time..his breakdowns started it all.. clean doubles, basic chase patterns..and a lot of fader work.

  • DOPE!!!!!!!

  • It's sad that only in hip hop do people disrespect the pioneers!! I, like many dj's today remember Cash Money, Jazzy Jeff, Q-Bert, Aladdin, etc. and have so much respect for the djs of today, BUT DO NOT disrespect the pioneers! Plus, they used regular records &mixers, NOT battle records & mixers with effects already on them. This is nearly 20 years ago so cmon, show respect. Things have advanced so if you only know what is present you can't understand or respect how it was built from the past!

  • Cash is a Philly Legend period...without him jeff and a few others there would not be any Kid Capri's or DJ'S WHO WRECK SHOP...Cash has world supremacy belts so that tells you he wasn't just some local push over. Nobody was cutting like they were back in the day and half these DJ's today still ain't seein' em point blank.

  • This is great. Bullets shirt first of all. I'm from D.C. and I know that's old school. And def. skills here which is a far cry from some of todays simple sampling a hook, then sitting back and taking all the cred. Would be nice to hear him when the beat drops though.

  • I remember Spinbad transforming at shows back in the day but as i recall Jeff put it on wax first.

  • @djkaneck1 i believe Grand Dragon KD put it on wax first. Check out Steady B's Bring the Beat Back..

  • @djkaneck1 i believe Grand Dragon KD put it on wax first. Check out Steady B's Bring the Beat Back..

  • Cash is muh man and all that, for MANY years but listening to him talk here, you'd think he invented DJ'ing.

  • this got my birds to start chirping like none other

  • I'd like to sit down and talk with Cash, I bet he has millions of stories.

  • yes, the OG DJ Spinbad never really got the recognition he deserved.. the true creator of the transform.

  • word my friend....same for joe coolie.........daddy rich..

  • yes my friend....same for joe coolie & daddy rich

  • @benzit0

DJ spinbad was the man yo! I had a few of his cassette tapes.

  • preach benzit0.. sup bro

  • @Mackaveli420

that is true about Spinbad, so underrated and sadly often confused with NYC Spinbad, but thats still a stupid ass reason to hate on CashMoney. Your an ignorant fool if you think CashMoney sucks! He's a world champ! Mabye Spinbad is better, but your really gonna say Cash is wack as shit? Plus if you knew anything about the situation you would know that Cash has always given spinbad credit for being the first one he had seen do the scratch, Cash just thought he could do it faster!

  • Agreed.

Some people don't have any fuckin respect talkin about Cash is wack as shit. I bet the geezer couldn't scratch his fuckin ass, let alone scratch like Cash.

There's some jokers on this youtube thing, for real.

  • @Mackaveli420 get a grip and have some respect, ffs.

  • this man is either a genius or an idiot, I can't tell yet cuz i'm not smart enough to understand it. Poor guy is to good for common ears.

  • After 11 years it still sounds so fresh and he can cut with both hands.....WOW

  • i saw the movies transformers a few years ago and couldnt help but think about the transformer scratch. i love 80's hip hop. it was always something new and fresh and original

  • i ben a fan since around the early 80's. the days of th rblock paries. cash lived on my block (57th st between thomas and whitby) southwest philly. but he wasnt "thee' cash money" back then. he was just jerome.

  • then you must also know of kydd fresh,doctor rox & co,doctor jr kool,tat money,steady b,grand dragon kd,schoolly d,code money,spinbad,shockwave,royal ron,robbie b & dj jazzy j,singing mc breeze,dj trevor,the slice label..etc..

i'm from amsterdam europe and grew up with hiphop from philly, they had that unique flava..

  • @sweepee4pres yes indeed. all those people plus many more shaped me into the b boy i became.

scholly d(psk gucci time), breeze(discombobulator), steady b( in jail for life)

spinbad, code money and all those were regulars on the hip hop scene in philly.

its nice to know that overseas these people were known. some of the people you mentioned, i forgot about.

such as code money, robbie b, spinbad.

all these people would spin at block parties all night.

  • i seen cash money & marvelous in edmonton, alberta, canada back in 88! my first hip hop concert

  • I was pissed when I 1st saw "Scratch"

How the fuck can U call yourself doing a documentary on turntablism & relegate the likes of Cash Money, DJ Jazzy Jeff, etc., to the DVD "extra footage"?

    How can U do that?

That's like doin' a documentary on MC'n & relegating the likes of Rakim, LL, KRS ONE & Big Daddy Kane to the "additional/extra footage", but NOT within the MAIN part of the documentary itself LOL!!

That Phil.a.Sophical joint NEEDS to drop ASAP..

  • i agree, Philly was the new standard and make A LOT of contributions to the game. These guys could cut on time and not be all over the place with that egg, sausage, and cheese and everything but the kitchen sink scratch!

  • the best scratch deejays are:

    DJ. CASHMONEY

    DJ. JAZZY JEFF

    DJ. SUPREME (HIJACK)

    DJ. UNDERCOVER (HIJACK)

then after these, DJ. FLARE, and DJ. Q-BERT.

  • dont forget dj raja

  • You know nuff peeps are gonna try diss you for putting Q-Bert down there lol

    What about Dj Scratch?

  • cashmoney rules. best DJ ever

  • to all turdtablist this is REAL rhythm scratching. learn how to stay on beat first, before you start crabin and orbin all over the fuckin place!! thats why RAPPERS never ask you guys to scratch on their records anymore!! ya'll skip the basics in order to copy QBERTso bad!!

  • I remember those days..lots of WD40 being used on the faders LOL

  • yo cash's new name should be the "AMBASSADOR"

  • real DJS stand the fuck up! to many of these wack wannabes these days!!!

  • doesn't get any better than this, the greatest!!

  • One of many legendary Philly DJ's

  • the first time i heard someone doing a chirp scratch was in 1985 by a record called "scratching to the funk" by cash money.i didn't know how it was done but it sounded really fast.

then i saw hitman howie tee on tv doing bang zoom with the real roxanne and i saw him playbacking a perfect chirp he did on the actual bang zoom record..

so now i knew how it was done and it was time for me to take the chirp to the next level,i practiced it to perfection when i got my first set of turntables.

  • cash money is "the" man!

  • I usually can watch a DJ and know how they're doing what they do, "NOT THIS GUY" Cash is simply the best I've ever seen, I've been a fan since the 12" record of "Play it Cool" and "Ugly People Be Quiet"!

  • He got the scratch funk. A lot of people don't realise that beng able to do complex scratch techniques doesn't automatically = funk and flow. Thanks for posting. Peace.

  • I remember how blown away I was when I first saw him transform, because everybody else used the phono/line switch on their mixers, and he did it even better with the crossfader, which up until then I didn't even think was possible

  • lol Exactly!

I always thought transforming was done with the phono line switch too until I saw Cash on DMC 88.

Seeing Cash transform with the fader was a revelation back then! lol

  • @LinxAudio

Also keep in mind that back then there was no such thing as an adjustable "fader curve"... believe me, I know and respect all the Oldschool DJ's, but when Cash came out with his DMC routine and his album, no one could hang with him for a minute when it came to REALLY cuttin funky and on point without stealing anyone's style...@Mackaveli... sorry I never heard of the "original" DJ Spinbad... let's see some "original" footage

  • @DJChrisLoot there's footage of the Original DJ Spinbad on youtube...I was jus' watch'n him doin' a function in '04...he was kill'n the transformer scratch...not betta than Jeff or Cash, but he was displayin' it!!!

  • @DJChrisLoot yeah boy cross-fader curve is straight up cheating in my books and dont buy into the cash/spinbad bullshit because they are quite different in styles

  • legendary

  • dop3. thnx for posting this.
