  • is this Bute? or where abouts are you?

  • Stihl Chainsaw.....not my favorite one, but that's just me. We always have trouble cranking up my dad's Stihl. Everytime we start it up, we keep having to blow out the air filter or squart some fuel or starter fluid in the carburator. But we also use a Polan for a back-up.

  • some people criticize me and my family for using firewood as a source of heat. I've told them that we harvest our wood from already fallen trees, trees blown down by storms or twisters. Never did tell them that we use to cut down trees at grandma's.

  • haha guys with small dick huh? come out to oregon and ill take you to work with me.. i took my fiances brother whos 33 out last month and after 1 tree he went and sat in the truck.. scared him to death.. so if u got a ''bigone'' and think its for us guys with small dicks come over to oregon and your dick will be real little then buddy.. im only 22 and ill even have my 3 year old son come and fiance come so they can both watch u sit in the truck and sob

  • He probably makes 90 dollars an hour. What do you do?

  • my old job, I'd kill to do again. jus remember man is a natural disaster. sooner or later the blood is on your hands. all the skills of a cabinetmaker with the thrills of a firefight. save the planet: kill yourself.all these big twigs deserve is respect from face cut to final use.

  • well the first thing that comes to mind is how old those butiful trees are the next thig is how much those trees must be worth and the third thing that comes to mind is how your not getting any of the money for the trees you cut down good fuckin job fuckin sellout robot son of a bitch the money that they pay you is the shit coverd dollar bills that fall over the toilet seat while they wipe their asses with money.

  • You are so brave to cut down the trees. You must be proud of your self!

  • Just a tree nothing big if you watch ax men, it's overdramatized.

  • I WANT YOUR JOB!!!!!!! (:

  • im going to find the biggest tree in my area and cut it down and im not going to use it for lumber im just going to cut it down and leave it to rot :)

  • lol hell ile run into it with my bush hog n mess it up real good lol

  • Nice work. good video

  • I am personally going to cut down a red wood, carve it into a canoe, row it out into the ocean and harpoon me a whale{I will use baby seals as bait}.I will then suck the oil from its head and burn it in my Hummer.

  • UR MEAN!!

  • all of those who complain about logging and damaging the environment don't have a clue. Without logging the forests would be a disaster. All of the old trees would die, fall down, and start rotting. Nothing but brush would be able to regenerate. A good logging operation is the healthiest thing in the world for a mature forest. It opens up the crown to allow light in, fresh seed gets churned into the soil by the machinery, and any brush that gets left behind creates wildlife habitat.

  • yeah. Mother nature is just terrible about managing the forests naturally. That is the most arrogant, stupid thing I've ever heard. Selectively cutting mature trees does let light in, and allow younger trees to mature, but the idea that only brush would be able to regenerate after a mature tree dies and rots in the forest is utter nonsense. Brush left by logging operations is often a fire hazard, and in those operations that dispose of their tops, they most often BURN THEM.

  • Bull hit, you chip the fucking tops.

  • nice cuttin. and for all you liberal pieces of crap, do you live in a house and if so get the heck out of it cause your supportin this cause guess how your house was built. if it wasnt for loggin you wouldnt have a roof over your head. and trust me theres still plenty of forrest out there.

  • Looking closely you can see the clearcuts in this video!

  • You have already destroyed 99% of west coast forests, why not just clearcut the rest of the planet. Your hell-bent on destroying all the beauty in the world and none of you loggers give a damn! You of course pick the largest, oldest and most beautiful trees, its disgraceful the utter obliteration of what's left of the natural world.

    Unbelievable!

  • Ya, why log it and make some use of it when you can incinerate it and kill the soil so it stays and dead for five as long as a clearcut would? But hey thats natures way right?

  • as a logger on the east coast i dont know much about what its like to fall a huge tree like this, but i do know one thing. these trees are natural, they will die at some point just like you! it makes no sense to let them die and rot when we can get something else out of them. and besides it makes more sense for a forest to be cut so that the smaller trees can get sunlight and grow. in 100 more years all the saplings you see around you on the ground will be just as tall!

  • damn straight i agree with you 100 percent logging has been in my family for as long as i can rember

  • u are the biggest mislead retard in the universe! you sir are much more less of a conservationist than any logger. fact of the matter is there are very few timber sales that don't proceed without enviromental impact statements or reclamation plans. at least most loggers replant so they will have future trees to cut down.i bet your house is still made of wood and u wipe your lazy ass with toilet paper. i think that most of u complainers dont know wat u are talking about and by your comments u dnt

  • Not all are "lies and rhetoric". We do need to find more of a balance with mother nature, not the logging industry (they've done their part (for the most part)), but as a whole (renewable fuels, recycleing, ect.) And selective harvesting/reforestation is a good start.

  • Nice falling. What people don't understand about the old growth is that old growth along the Washington, Oregon, and California coasts isn't being logged anymore because 1. it's all been logged and 2. the remaining old growth is overripe and crap for lumber. I live right in the middle of the South Olympic mountains in Washington and they're done logging the old growth in the high country. They stopped in 1986. Now the timber companies are logging their own 2nd and 3rd growth timber.

  • A 1000 year old tree will fall soon. Whether it is by a faller or by nature. Better we use it than it rotting on the forest floor.

  • I guess you're forgetting about the habitat and nutrients when decomposing that old growth trees provide...probably a logger...

  • Yeah, most people do not realize that rotting trees are benificial to the overall health of a forest ecosystem.

  • Nice timber! Would have been nice to have an 088 all hopped up to get that stump shot off.

  • You mentioned this was Bute Inlet-I have worked at Quatam River/Ramsey Arm at the opening by Church House. I have also worked at Scar Creek, 45kms up the Homathko River at the head of Bute. I am guessing you nare working at Bear Bay from the view of the inlet and that looks like Olsen's float camp. did I guess right?

  • Selective harvesting provides for a stronger forest. There is currently more acreage in tree production in the United States than in the late 1700's. There are far fewer old growth stands which is a shame, but trees and acreage outnumber any other time in the existence of our country. I would imagine that Canada is experiencing the same increased acreage.

  • Nice video wish they got that big down in the states logging 40 year old doghair.

  • They get bigger! California redwoods, doug fir, cedar and sitka spruce all up and down the west coast! Its just that all of our big timber is locked up.

  • This is to the freaky tree huggers. Its not the loggers clearing these stands, its civilization demanding the high quality products. Do you have wood framing in your house, shakes for a roof or trim around your window sills? So many of you bleeding hearts are all talk. If I went into your house there would be just as much wood as any loggers.

    Campbell River Guy

  • the point is not do we have wood in our homes the point is do we need to have to cut a 1000 year old tree to do that and no we dont those trees can be skipped. I planted trees for years and can just look at a unit and see if they care what they are doing or just trashing it and running. its enough to make you sick. even a kid knows you dont shit in your living room and then sit and smell it.

  • Yes you are right. We can and should get those products without cutting down the 5% of the remaining coastal forests which still hold these trees. Those stands should not be cut by this generation. I won't say they should be parks but it should be my kids or grandkids generations that weigh the value of those remaining stands against the values of their time.

  • I work out on the west coast as an engineer designing the harvest units and methods.

I appreciate the sweet footage, but someone that not only sounds smarter but who can also cut-up a tree without wrecking the butt log and smashing the top must have their own footage on here?

  • i dont understand this kind of pride in cutting down such huge wonders that are so ancient when there are so many smaller trees trees all around. Isnt this what happened in the middle east ? they harvested all the giant trees now they have none. i dont see how someone can feel good about cuttingdown something that was alive when columbus landed or much older. i know my kids would question it .

  • your kids as dumb as you are you waterhead

  • I would say this is not a very experienced faller - a lot of torn wood and poor cuts.

  • dont you just love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning.

  • your a dumbass

    there dudes r loggers

  • Comment removed

  • alright...

  • PS to the tree hugger belows comment.

When the tree gets old it produces less oxygen and smothers the new grow from maturing. The tree will die one day either on its own or done right by a faller giving US new growth which = means more air and more paper to wipe your snotty ass with.. DUH !!!!

  • i couldnt agree more

  • That was AWESOME!!! I love how Big the tree's are out here... I think what you do in the logging world is the most amazing job out there. I also think its great your out there slaying these old dying trees and turing them into paper and so many of our other wood products we use before they get to old and either fall down and turn into a big chunk of waist or start a giant forest fire. Its great your out there helping mother earth keep its cyle of life cleaner and safer.

  • do some more research as to why there is "global warming and Ice caps melting" you stunned hippie.

The ice has been melting for tens of thousands of years.

And don't forget......it WAS frozen well beyond the tempurature required to grow your wheat-grass and hemp.

  • I agree!

  • Use to be a faller. Got out of it for awhile. Couldn't pass the field examine for the new certification. Out of shape, 50 years old; I tested in a stand of second growth 12 inch snags; and the only saw I had was a 3120 Husky with a 48 bar............ If I would have had wood like that, it'd had been an easy pass.......!

I see those trees had a heavy lean, no use for wedges. Couldn't get the holding wood off fast enough............ uh?

  • Hi In many of the movies of falling in America you guys finish backing the tree from the bottom side. I was taught to always finish the back from the top side (or the side the tree is not leaning toward)....I also never let a tree start to tip without looking up (although here in Tasmania we have much bigger limbs in the heads to look out for!)... You may be lucky... but the laws of physics and averages are against you if you do it for long enough! Nice looking bush you're in tho!

  • hi, i own a Tree service and land clearing company outa Baton Rouge, la , but would love to work in that type of environment just once in my life. Who do i talk to or where do i go to get into this? Thank you dearly!!! Jason Fox 225- 276 - 6486

  • Jason: Call Columbia Helicopters Inc. out of Portland OR. They have a timber faller school and are always looking for fresh meat to send to alaska...If you can hack it! Their number is:503-678-1222, good luck!

  • why do so many of you guys out west drop your saws when the tree starts to go? Id be hanging on to that sucker.

  • amazing shit...beats slangin' dope on the street corner any day

  • you got that right brother

  • nice take downs.

  • good work, not many shots around to really show people what falling is about

  • ya for sure you got some some great shots ! is there alot of work for new fallers out there , iam taking the faller training next month , but after i will be lookin for someone to train me up so i can get my fallers ticket.... anything you can recomend me doing ? thanks mike from golden b.c
