  • 10:47 is that a portrait of Morei Uyeshiba on the wall?

  • Roy Dean has turned tapping out to his own students into an art form.

  • thumbs up if you love the bjj lifestyle :)

  • anyone know what namebrand belts roy uses for promotions? i love the way they look thanks....

  • All BJJ academies should be like this one. the student testing had great skills for a white belt.

  • yeah that was cool man. did a real good job. our promotions are in june ill be testing pretty soon for my blue belt. cant wait for the round robin

  • I like Roy Dean. He seems very nice on his videos.

  • All blue belts should have a test like this one... Keeps the techniques authentic. There are too many bullshit black belts that don't even know these moves or how to demo the moves.

  • Good job dude hard work paid off

  • Another 9 months and I might have a blue belt :( sigh.

  • @Listeningification hey i notice that this comment is 9 months old do you get your blue belt?

  • Excellent demo. Thanks to you I now want to train in BJJ AS opposed to Judo which I was considering

  • @MOVIERAVER train both

  • muito bom!!!

  • Hey guys you think BJJ might be applicable for Law Enforcement? I plan on learning A style but I'm stuck between whats closer (BJJ) and what I really want (Japanese Ju-Jutsu). So what do those who have experienced BJJ think?

  • I've done both, and I would choose BJJ because it´s more "real life" oriented. You should look for a school that is more oriented towards self defense, because today sport BJJ is mainstream and its possible that you are not looking for that,

  • Look for aikido

  • No worries mate. Aikido in my eyes is the best for policing/defence as it revolves around small manipulations, try youtube it =]

  • @johnm543. I've trained with a few cops who did BJJ. One of them was somewhere around a blue or purple belt and said he used BJJ in real situations. BJJ is great for self-defense too, though I think the more self-defense oriented techniques focus less on fighting on the ground and more on controls, sweeps, and throws. I think a law enforcement officer arm barring a suspect and breaking his arm might constitute excessive force in many cases, lol =)

  • I know it's his job, but I still feel bad for the instructor for constantly getting arm barred, triangle choked, and other submissions done to him. I wonder when I'll get my blue belt.

  • great vid . Can't wait to get my blue belt. congrats

  • I got exhuasted jsut form watching that. looks like a hard exam. this vid got me pumped for my first class tho...

  • amazing technique. how often do you practice?

  • great demo ^^ congrats on the belt

  • Good stuff, the instructor reminds me of mine. Doesnt have an ego, purposely lets his students catch him for learning purposes. You have a great teacher!

  • Roy is a real black belt... someone who is not afraid to go slow, allowing students to get advantageous positions and not being afraid to tap.

Roy is one of the best teachers I've seen on YouTube!

  • He is solid! but for us to go up in belt we had to go through the whole class. Starting with the highest to lowest and end with the instructor.

  • So, how do you qualify to get move up a "belt"? Do you fight someone who is already the belt you're trying to get, or someone who is also trying to get the belt? If not any of those, does the instructor give you a belt when he or she feels you're ready?

  • the sensi is a good guy he rolls lightly and lets things happen and hes not afraid to tap... much props to him...

  • the dude is pretty friggin solid for a white belt. also wasnt too impressed with the first blue belt

  • At 4:26 it sounds like one of them riped ass haha..

Great video though dude..I agree that your technique is closer to a purple belt then blue!

  • Well Deserved mother fuckin blue belt my man. That shit was sick u were school most of those other blue belts...sicckkkk

  • so how do you feel about testing as opposed to just having your instructor give you the belt when he feels you're ready? I got my blue from Roy Harris - but my school was mainly no-gi so i felt not up to par. I moved to GRacie BArra as a white belt - and they just give you the belt when the instructor feels you've acheived it? anyhow, this guy was pretty damn good alot better than me when i tested for my blue belt...i was so nervous..lol

can't wait to get to my blue from Gracie barra as well

  • Interesting that you speak of Roy Harris since my teacher, Roy Dean, was given his black belt by professor Harris. From what I hear, if you've been given a blue from Mr. Harris, you probably deserved it. Roy Dean Academy has strict guideline when taking a test that all new belts have to adhere to. However, I have seen Mr. Dean give belts to people who didn't take the test too. That's a decision between the student and the teacher sometimes. Good luck with your training.

  • Man that's an awful lot of techniques to learn to achieve rank. This kid's probably a purple by now.

  • that guy very much deserved that blue belt, congrats to him,

  • congrats on the new blue belt nice film man

  • great video

  • 7:44 Awsome Sweep.

  • congratulation good fighter

  • I think this guy was the best blue belt tester...also why does he get a blue belt w/2 stripes already?

  • All blue belts start with no strips. The belt has a top and bottom white stripe so you can easily distinguish the black promotion section.

  • Well Deserved! It's interesting because his BJJ isn't as fluid as typical RD BBJ! His exam was good but overall, not as impressive "to look at" as the others. Then he gets the mat time in and demonstates superior skills as a BLU BLT when sparring. Very difficult to deal with and a higher propensity to reverse you than the average Blu Blt. BEST REVERSALS I've seen 4 A Blu! Many Purples and Browns can't turn the tables as well as he did. It will be his strength. He will make a difficult foe!

  • Great Film! I like that. Use full techniques! Congratulations for the new Blue Belt!! I will need to take some techniques from the video because they were showed clearly so I can learn now!! Best Wishes!! and 5 Stras.
