You have to be using the internet to login, once logged in, you create a room, then select your song, and then just push play, if you dont want a person in your room, you can kick them by double clicking them, and double click again to make it closed, so no-one can join ^_^

If you mean by looks, no, you get given a set character, with limited looks. But when you dance with other people, you "compete" against them, and based on how well you do you get "points" which you can then use to customise your character. Alternatively, you can pay with real money, for ingame cash, which you can buy even more items with.
