  • Good Landing ... Yeahh .. ^;^ ..

  • Lolol do you seriously think a little parachute will save your rader (or whatever it is... i guess it's something like that) while your flying in a tornado....... it gets thrown away and you will never find it back (maybe a few pieces though ^^)

  • So...uhh... where's the tornado?

  • What about high performance model rockets? Not the ones with d motors but those crazy big ones?? Shoot it in tornado, deploy probe, done.

  • balsa wood and tornadoes don't mix!

  • and what did this have to do with tornadoes?

  • @dalittleman001 I think that may be the planes name? Not really sure.

  • @dalittleman001 there using it to launch probes for footage of tornados so they dont have to get really close

  • I was expecting the plane to fly into a tornado. I was disappointed. :(

  • That BTE Super Hauler sounds fantastic in the air!

  • @2muchskill4you, btw if u watched the episode they did use it in a tornado and what was cool was that they attached a camera to it so it was like a plane flying into a tornado with a camera on it recording.

  • thats an controlled plane and a little man falling down !

  • people dont you think reed and them know what the hell they are doing and the rc pilot im also a rc pilot i been using a plane for a number of years but i use the plane for after the tornado goes through to video storm damage

  • i knowa whats a good idea to put on it! a parachute!

YEAH CUS EVERYONE KNOWS WIND CATCHES THEM EASILY

  • haha i saw this being tested in a storm chsers show awsome plane by the way Reed

  • Just sAyin that they do hAve cameas on the plane

  • A few MAJOR problems with this approach. 1 - They'll only be able to fly at about a 1,500' range before losing orientation of the plane. Are they REALLY going to be that close to a tornado? 2 - These planes are not meant to fly in high winds. Even if it's reinforced, any wind over 50 mph will toss this plane around and then rip it apart. 3 - They could easily lose visibility of the plane, in which case you'll be very lucky to get it back at all. NOT a great idea.

  • @microdon2 how the hell you know i dont loose my plane at 1500 ft out specially if im using the cams on it for flying and they do by the way i've been flying for 16 yrs you kinda learn orietation after a few flights and as for the wind i wouldnt worry about the wind that much it is reinforced im sure and the motor on it will take it off at half throttle at full throttle that plane can hang by its prop it is a hot rod with a cargo release any way they arent getting to close

  • I lost my RC plane in a tornadoe

  • At least you won't be able to hear them yelling up there!!

  • @rustshac72 Absolutely! These guys get awesome footage but I seriously cant stand hearing Reed Timmers annoying yelling. I try not to be spiteful but I have caught myself many times wishing a large piece of debris would nail Reed in the throat rendering him unable to ever speak again. Maybe when this plane loses control in a storm it will come back and get the job done on Reed.

  • is there any footage yet? it says you deployed late 2009 season. it is now 2010, any success?

  • @scotviking /watch?v=LkKmUehtvCc <-- found SOME

  • this is what meteorologists do? i need to think about declaring another major...

  • 1:00 MW2 Care package in comming!

  • i saw the video where they had the actual chance to fly directly into the tornado with video film rolling and they botched the chance the plane is expendable but if the tape survives the crash it would be priceless

  • YES! Let's hear it for Oxford, MS - my town!!! Saw the Dominator in town at Super 8, but missed seeing any of the guys. Guess they were sleeping.

Found out they were here for the plane later... Radiance is about a mile from me. :(

  • Just because you have a high IQ doesnt mean you are not a dumbass, there are a lot of smart people on this planet that cant even wipe their own ass

  • looks like a super flying king. the tank of rc aircraft. however odds that the wind doesn't drop it like a stone are real slim. the ama says ya can't fly over 400 feet inside of 3 miles from an airport or over unknowing people. other than that, fire on it, i wanna see the wreck footage.

  • hmm, I wonder why they don't try to use specially built drones to collect data on tornados?

  • I want that!!! It would be so much fun to fly

  • Nice landing, dude

  • Hmmmm, i somehow i dont think an RC plane will be able to make it anywhere near a tornado to do jack shit but i hope you prove me wrong.

    Nice landing tho...

  • @wildebeast1976 Agree Totally, they wont get within a thousand yards of any tornado with an RC plane,no matter how big it is.those winds surrounding any tornado will blow that thing all over the place like a feather,it will be totally unflyable ...imo...

  • Did you get authorization by the FAA? If not you could have a mighty fine!

  • The FAA doesn't give a flying crap about these things until it carries people. The AMA would want to inspect it if it's over 55 pounds....but you can get a waiver.

  • hmm thats funny, I wonder why vortex 2 and credible universities havent been allowed to use them. oh and last i heard there is an investigation on this project by the FAA

  • Sweet, you nerdy fuck.

  • un-intelligent dumbass

  • 126 IQ level isn't a "dumbass" rating...but at least I'm creative enough to some up with something better....please go drown yourself...the rest of us can use your oxygen.

  • What are your sources for this information?

I'm not being sarcastic here. I'm genuinely curious whether or not this would even be legal.

  • @rccardude04 Federal Aviation Administration

  • @joehernan22: more specific perhaps? I know you said FAA earlier, but what case #, journal articles, any other more specific information? I'm thinking of doing something similar and want to avoid trouble.

  • @rccardude04 Contact Flight Standards and Air Traffic Divisions in Washington 1-800-255-1111 The case is on Radiance. There are very strict rules on UAV and RC aircraft.

  • @joehernan22: That's close enough I suppose. Thanks

  • to show ur a fucking idiot just check ur name

  • ppl that make comments like this is the idiot

  • @antoinesalleras I think thats been said hundreds of times in the youtube community, and it still doesnt make sense. First of all there is no direct correlation between names and idiots, as a matter of a fact wtf does your name mean, and why shouldnt I say the same about yours lol

  • ok anyone got a shrink ray? i want to be in that thing when it gos near a twister lol! i want to chase tornado's! i want there job sooooo bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ya'll need a UAV so you can get live camera feed in real time. That would be awesome. However, I don't know what the lifespan would be. You may get only one use out of it (just like this toy plane).

  • nice plane but engine sounds ropey

  • that engine sounds a bit rich !

  • that is the way a DA sounds and the engineis still breaking in

  • OK, in case of breaking in , everythings allright :-)

  • That plane kicks ass!

  • I always wanted to be an storm chaser

  • Who's the dumbass? "An" is an article, not a proverb you fucking idiot.

  • nice

  • you guys are good storm chasers,,but you never know what its like to be in the updraft,,good luck with it

  • I agree with the group. Pretty much a silly plan. I'm astonished anyone with any knowledge of the dynamics of the atmosphere around tornadoes would even consider this a viable plan.

$10 says it doesn't make it 50 feet in the air before it trenches.

  • You were wrong!

  • good luck even getting it close to a tornado, i cant wait to see that thing crash this season. haha

  • lawl i want to see what happens to teh plane you guys make the best videos hands down

  • i wanted to see the plane get sucked up by an f5

  • :P That would suck.

  • Airframe doesn't have anywhere near enough penetration. Need a jet planform with turbine (but hope it doesn't flame out).

  • good luck with the plain.

  • sweet plane!! looks like it has a powerful motor....

  • ok, now try flying that in 150mph winds and golfball sized hail.

  • @2muchskill4you ROFL LMFAO that would destroy it

  • I know XD it's pretty much a ridiculous idea, not to mention a waste of funding.

  • yeah one wouldn't think so, and I agree !

But they might've added a few pounds to it with that in mind..

  • Forget the probes, put a video camera in the thing!

  • This should have been posted on April 1, because it's clearly a joke.

  • Is that the little pilot eject?

  • lol

  • idk, the plane will be ruined.

  • wadda ya want jam on it lol..go to one says rc crash if this dosent float your boat lol

  • This won't work, the plane will not be able to fly in any real wind shear, it will get tossed around like debris. You would be better to run it straight into the votex.

  • Brave idea. I speak from experience - back in 1989 I considered this as part of Master's degree at Texas Tech working with Dr. Richard Peterson. (Meteorology)

Tornadoes are not stationary and you will need to chase them with a vehicle while flying your plane Now add to that lightning, hail, debris cone, and feeder bands along with needing to dodge objects with the plane and vehicle.

I'm a storm spotter and a RC plane owner, but I keep these hobbies separated by choice.

    GOOD LUCK.

  • @TrickyGap would you really think that the RC plane would work against EF5/F5 tornadoes no way it be damaged in seconds it goes near it

  • they always seem to film the good shit nice one

  • im a rc flyer i fly by hevener lake

  • no kidding?! O.o WOW

  • ooohh... but won't the plane get sucked up also???

  • Nice one Reed!

  • this was so my idea..... cool still

  • BACK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FLY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dude, um, i thought the plane would fly into a tornado.......

  • well this will only work if the winds aint as high

  • Um... don't real planes avoid supercells like the plague because of wind shear and other wing-pulling-off types of events? Hope they didn't pay too much for the plane and sensors...

  • great video Reed...gotta love it!

  • how are you going to get the plane to a tornado safely? What about hail?

  • i don't think there too worried about the plane.

  • Wow. That is pretty awsome. Keep up the good work guys that is some amazing stuff!!

  • great idea I can't wait to see footage from one of those video probes and maybe a small camera mounted on the plane would'nt be a bad I dea

  • Have you ever chased a Tornado captmonk1 if you havn't realized by now you have to be a little bit crazy to, so why not have fun with it

  • hee hee...can we all really agree that all of this tornado chasing has gone beyond any real research? I mean, you may learn some small insignificant things from this chasing but it's all about these guys having fun chasing these tornados at this point. We are really close to some of these guys being killed or hurt bad pretty soon.

  • Can you guys go back to actualy showing us Tornado footage? There are too many videos dealing with your equipment and gadgets.

  • For those of us who're on the wrong side of the world to chase tornadoes properly, it's really interesting to see what equipment and new gadgets these guys use to enable them to safely get close to tornadoes and document them. And like the chase season itself, there's lots of quiet time, so rather than waiting days or weeks for vids of tornadoes it's great to see stuff related to the chasing!

I personally can't wait to see some of the HD footage from these drops! Keep up the great work guys! :D

  • It's hard to show tornado footage if there hasn't been any severe weather the last few days. They are just showing us what they do in between chases when it's slow. You don't have to watch.

  • why don't you talk zeus into making some more thunderstorms

  • What does this have to do with tornadoes?

  • i'd love to see it in action

  • OUR RECON PLANE WILL FIND THEM!

    but in all seriousness, sweet.

  • Cool plane...I hope it doesn't get struck by lightning though.

  • wow cool. sounds cool too

  • OWNAGE, although i bet the wind will own that thing

  • wow! new sweet and cool ideas... question reed, if you're reading this one, are you appearing on the storm chasers S3 as one of the chasers? storm chasers is more cooler with YOU in THERE! so what with the TIV? show that YOUR TVN dominator can eat the dust!

  • I have to agree with that. Not to hip on JOSH, and his constantly taking his TIV " aka tank" into on coming traffic.

  • will it have a live streaming camera i hope!

  • I want one of those and now i cant wait to see this thing in action good luck!!

  • EVERYONE LISTEN.....there is an info part for a reason......it said " HD video probes, that will be dropped in the tornado inflow region and pulled into the circulation by a parachute system."!!!!!!!!

  • Wouldn't the inflow suck in the plane? (something i'd like to see btw lol)

  • I have a bad feeling that the plane is going to become a tornado snack in the very near future....hopefully you guys will get some good readings and footage though!

  • That thing is soooo cool!

  • I'd suspect the airplane probably won't make it that far. Too light, air way too turbulent. And why a taildragger at that? That type a plane is most sensitive to wind!

  • exactly

  • good idea but, im not to sure about this one..

  • reminds me of the Coast Guard pilots who fly WC-3 Orions into hurricanes and drop probes.

  • COOL!!!

  • I would use an air compressed artillery cannon. But I guess planes would do...

  • I was gonna suggest going up to the Tornado and just throwing the probes in but your idea sounded better.

  • take it from someone who flys brushless planes and users brushless rc cars and boats. trust the public on this one.

  • well

consider using brushless instead of gas

brushless is faster, lighter and is much less likely to cut out in the rain. it wont make as much noise in the video either.

  • Look forward to the footage you'll get with this.

  • lol that's awesome!

  • watching storms is great from the ground...wow that would take guts to do that.

  • cool

  • Nice ... Good luck with that

  • Wouldnt the plane like get tossed around? lol
