Skunks as well. Respect them, and they will respect you. I have dealt with fully armed skunks, and never have been sprayed. I have not met a wild porcupine, but the same applies. Respect them, and they will not harm you.
If the dogs didn't try to bite the porcupines they wouldn't have quills in their face. Don't hate an animal that just minds it's own business and has natural defenses.
And in case you were wondering: I LOVE dogs, that's why I behave like a responcible owner and train my pet not to attack other animals.
Last 2 dogs hase the charachter which dosnt quit normaly if other dogs get 4-5 hit they will pull back look em both they dont give up and i am sure they found a way to bite Porcupines and killed it
DIslike! Porcupines mind their own business. When you see a dog quilled a dog that bad, it generally comes with a dead porcupine. You never see quilled wild dogs, because they are smart. Domestic dogs were breed to do specific tasks leaving them virtually retarded to survive in nature.
My dog picks them up by the head and brings them without getting any quils. The 1st time he attacked one he got hurt and a nasty infection but then he learned by himself how to deal with them. I also agree that Porcupines ar harmless, problem is it's hard for a dog not to attack when they cross my backyard, as the dog considers it to be his territory.
A dog doesn't have to attack or bite a porcupine to get quilled, all it has to do is be curious. If it gets close enough, like within inches, the porcupine will kinda twitch jolting it's quills toward it. Usually if that happens there are 2 possible results. The dog runs with a minor case of quill face, or the dog attacks making it worse, of course some aggressive dogs just attack em too.
@vergel311 Why should they be burned?... just keep your fucking dogs away from procupines....I have never known about a procupine atacking any dog...or even a lion!... hahaha! this post should be named "Silly dogs vs procupines"....
You know, the porcupine is 100% inocent. Porcupines quils don't actually "Spike out" at you when you go near it. There quils are attached to there body like our fingernails. But at the end of each quil, there are tiny little hooks, like a fishing rod hook, so when the dog trys to bite it or attack it, then quils will hook on to there skin and the dog will pull back, ripping the quils out. Not the "Grand master of defence" There totally harmless. Just make sure your dog doesnt attack it! :)
@SieraAnnBeagan yah there actually very sweet and cute there was one that came to our school and walked around the MPR and didint get upset or anything we got to feed it granola bars!
@SieraAnnBeagan you so say what I think. Porcupines are not aggressive animals. Leave them alone and they leave you alone. Dogs are just naturally very curious and want to play with the porcupine, which always goes wrong. If you live in area where porcupines are common you can try and teach your dog to stay away from them. If your dog gets stung by the quils you ALWAYS must bring it to the vet, The wounds can get infected if you don't do so.
this reminds me of a time when my heagehog got out of his cage and was almost attacks by my dog. my heagy poped and got my dog in the nose. that showed her LOL. she was ok tho, now i have a better cage and all is well. poor doggies tho. image how painful that is :( poor idiots.
Oh Man, you can almost feel the pain. this gave me the goosebumps.
the two at the end you'd either have to shoot it or have it put down.
it would take a vet a hell of a long time and the dog would take a long time to heal
especially after maybe bacteria may infect those wounds. I don't like pitbulls but this makes me feel sorry for that dog.I wouldn't wish that on ANY animal that bad.
Dog has THAT many quills in him.... I don't feel bad for the dog... that's insanity on the dog's part.... They deserve what they get.... Is that last one a dogupine? haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
The last dog is a bull terrier, my mother owns two and the amount of spikes in its face is not surprising since they're very tenacious, curious, have a high threshold for pain and they stick their nose in everything to investigate :/
The quills are hollow and full of air and so if you squeeze them at all the air is pushed down into the submerged part of the quill acting like a cork. Normally you end up having to cut the tops off with scissors so the air escape and they shrink in size.
not really they dont learn the message had a husky wolf mix back in new york he would come home once a month full of quils and me my brother and dad would have to pull them out with pliers from in side his mouth and any soft tissue area his fur was great armor
Oh my God. Help me this is terrible!! Please tell me after you had a big laugh and videotaped the carnage you at least helped the poor dog?? I mean yes canines are curious but don't just sit there while the get stuck multiple times!!!
Well I'm pretty sure that the last 2 would have seriously hurt or killed the porcupine judging by they amount of quils they took, they woulda had to have been ignoring the initial pain just to kill it to get impailed by so many.
the last one....I doubt the porcupine just jumped with it's back on the dog's face...or started shooting quills from it's back. How the fuck did the thought process went for that dog ?? did he absolutely wanted to get each and every fucking spike off that porcupine's back?
My mom's dog had about 250 quills. No vet within 100 miles. We sat on him and three of us grabbed needle nosed pliers and pulled them out. It was gruesome! But he survived with swelling and a bruised ego. He also got to take pain medication. Hopefully....hopefully all these dogs were ok.
@LeoxElite Yea it probably killed that porcupine judging by the amount of damage it had taken iteself, (required amount of damage to have killed said porcupine)
Nah; that's a myth. The quills on a porcupine are nothing more than stiff, barbed hair, so clearly shooting quills isn't possible. Usually they will use their tail for hitting, or ram into the predator with their body to fend them off.
we had a husky that got into it with a porcupine , the first time he tryed to pounce on it , quils all over face , chest and front legs, had to go to the vet for that, the second time he was lucky just a few on the nose and lip, dad and i pulled them out.
@karozans Actually, it's not that they're dumb.. they're just very territorial (the last one probably killed the porcupine in the owners garden almost sacrificing itself. It's a bull terrier, so it's likely very protective of the house when it meets strangers).
these are some dumb dogs you would think they would of learned their lesson picking on things they believe they can beat how dumb are these dogs they obviously arent smart
1.owners should have been looking after their pets.2. owners should have been arrested, there is a reason why before I was even born they are called "Dumb Animals", and this is animal cruelty.3.if your going to keep kids or animals you have to make sure they are in a safe environment, what if this had been a child instead of a porcupine?I don't want to hear this is a 1000.00 dollar dog.if you can afford that then you can afford a fence on your property.

@MinmatarThrasher hey dummy, dog approach those things to smell and out of curiosity, because we taught them to be friendly. a lion is wild, not curious.

The quills are hollow and full of air and so if you squeeze them at all the air is pushed down into the submerged part of the quill acting like a cork. Normally you end up having to cut the tops off with scissors so the air escape and they shrink in size.
