Next time you go to downiville RIDE THE EMPIRE CREEK TRAIL. The outfitters will know what it is. I've ridden it with greg all the way from the shop around the whole loop. It's the only trail I liked better than the haypress creek trail and the Hilda mine trail.
i haven't been to downieville in two years, to the best of my knowledge its the longest, farthest and looses more elevation gain than any other trail on the west coast... Is there less pedaling on the 3rd divide?
Nope. It's totally worth getting a full suspension bike for the ride (you can rent them in town). The difference is speed. You can do DVille on a hardtail, but you just have to go slow, so it's not as much fun.
kool. nice video of downievelle downhill, i just got my first full suspension mtb and i have yet to take it out on a downhill trail. Downievelle will be the first place i will go. Looks like fun.
Its cool like how the back ground music naturally references Compton. What would be a greater adrenelin rush riding this fine trail or riding Compton in the evening and what gear would you suggest for that ride?
I must have been tired when I wrote my first comment. This is a very fun trail to ride.
I really dig the end of the trail where the trees kinda close in around you right after the the ground turns from the slate stuff. It is a great compliment to the end of a really fun day.
It's one of those wonderful rides, the Pauley divide is awesome as well. there's 3 main divides some you can ride for 4+ hours downhill and see totally different trails the entire way. We are blessed here with great rides. So many trails and so little time
16mm duct-taped to my helmet. No really, no idea on the camera, it was my buddies, small 7 nice. My helmet cam though.
You can do it in a hard tail, but you'll have to go slower, you won't be able to do the big drops, and you'll have to have your tires at like 500psi to keep from getting pinch flats. I get them at 45psi running DH tubes with 6.1 inches of rear travel on my Norco. Rent a full suspension or borrow one. You will thank me later!
Well, you call them "alternate", I call them the lines. There are some drops, not cliffs or anything, but it also relates to your speed. There are no drops if you are slow, you can technically roll over everything. But if you're going fast, there are some 5-6 foot drops and 10-15 foot distance launches. It's also really rough, if I had taken a hardtail I would have snapped it in half riding at the speed in the vid.
It sucks because I have to go slow with my bike. I rented a Specialized enduro downtown and it took some time to get used to but I got the hang of it the time we reached poly creek. I wished I had it when we came to the rock garden the next time we went though.
Nice! in the summer, my dad, little brother and i ride our dirt bikes up butcher and polly creek. i like riding there a lot and im thinking about getting a MTB soon to cross train. you guys ride the divides to right?
We usually do Butcher Ranch to 3rd Divide to Frist Divide. 2nd Divide is OK, but with our DH bikes, not as much fun. Rides at the top other than Butcher Ranch suck if you don't have a Husky 510 :) too flat for fun DH MTBing.
Drop me right there. I hate the flatland.

Call Downieville Outfitters 530.289.0155, I don't know the cost now.

thanks

$60 to $80 depending on the bike. $60 gets you a bike that retails for $2500

there aren't any big drops on the downhill unless you take alternative lines to get to them.

I ride a 2003 hardrock pro with 2.4 inch tires and a dirt jumper front fork. I like to run my tires at 55 psi. I am 294LBS
