Jennifer Espinoza singing Janis Joplin Turtle Blues - with BBHC----under this title they have a young 18 talent missy with a very powerful voice, see you later gaga and beiber(lol)
I remember my dad put this song on a CD of music that I listened to at night. When I was a kid I was scared of this song, now that I'd older and my tastes changed, this song has become one of my favorite songs that I get stuck in my head.
@jackswife17972 God wouldn't accept it, while he has Michael Jackson, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Amy Whinehouse and Freddie Mercury????!!!! We'll have to listen to Lady Boring Gaga 'till the world learn to apreciate good music again...
4 dislikes? REALLY????? Janis is like a stiff drink. It alters your mood and just makes you feel good!!! The first time I heard this song it made me feel good all the way to my toes. GOD, I love this woman.
Janis is like a stiff drink. It alters your mood and just makes you feel good!!! The first time I heard this it made me feel good all the way to my toes. GOD, I love this woman.
That's a hell of a lot of music for three people! Unbelievable! I remember looking at this album cover (with all the R. Crum cartoons) when I was a little kid, happy as hell with the joy booming from my big brother's hi-fi speakers! (This did not go over well with my old man, though, who played in big bands all his life! ha ha)
First heard this years ago on a "sampler" LP. Sleeve note identified this as Ball and Chain and I have been under that illusion (and searching for it) for 40 years. Now I've re-found it and its still one of the best "blues" tracks ever recorded. Many thanks for the posting.
janis would often chug a pint of southern comfort during the solo, listen after the break as she smashes the bottle on the stage. got to see big brother and janis in '65 along with santana, country joe & the fish, quicksilver messenger service, the stone poneys(linda ronstadt), moby grape.... lots of great concerts for free in golden gate park. sorry, i had too much to dream last night.
@cinderconk I lived in the Haight in the mid-late 60s. Went regularly to the Fillmore and Avalon. Saw Hendrix in the Panhandle on July 4 weekend of '67. It was a great time in SF. Wouldn't trade that experience for nothin'. Yes, free music and only $2-3 at the Fillmore or Avalon to see all those band and the awesome blues bands out of Chicago. This was before the commercialization of concerts. Seems to me that after Altamont and Woodstock lots of things changed. Peace!
This is such and interesting piece, for she recorded the 'bar scene'..later.. the bar fight and all the people were not there during the original recording... ;-)
@MonikaKozmik I have always assumed this was a live recording and wondered when and where. Now I wonder when and where the "bar scene" was recorded, and why? Who thought of it? It seems they must have had the song playing for the "patrons" when recorded, as you can hear the crowd responding. Anyway, classic Janis!! You not only hear the song, but you feel the song. Not many artists can give you that.
@Lilbme2day So True. She delivered her all all the time. Thats why I love her heart so much. 'Ya gotta just feel..." wish more musicians thought as much, like I do.
Janis thought of the bar scene background. They went to Barneys to record the backing noise, for it was always so busy. It was to make it as though it was a sad musician playin her tune, and no matter what went down, the music doesn't stop... Kinda like the movie "string of pearls" hence the name... Pearl. ;-)
Is this not the quintessential blues soul that was Janis? This could be one of her most accomplished expressions of R & B. She achieved a fusion here with venerable blues artists of some twenty-thirty years prior. Janis knew her genre and drew a generation into love of the blues. A remarkable, prescient, iconoclastic performer of legendary passion.
I simply, just can't wait to see her on the other side. Lordy, chile, I'm ready.. No one can belt it out like she can. And she put a head stone on Big Mama Thornton's grave. You are one great great woman.
Janis is my favorite female singer and no one has compared to her yet. Anyone can remake her stuff but they will NEVER be Janis. R.I.P. chick. You will be missed forever.
Tengo 51 años y esta mujer me sigue erizando el vello cuando escucho su musica, es pura dinamita y digo es porque sigue viva de alguna manera, no hay duda........
