@AkosiMRswabe look at the flame before the pot goes on - its blue, the orange glow is the igniter and gauze glowing red hot. I can assure you its not defective.
Just for the record, the jetboil and primus stoves are just a few of the stoves i might choose for any paticular trip. To be honest, my favourite stove is a trangia which is probably the best camp stove ever created. Fast it isnt, but a joy to use? Absolutely. Jetboil is a water boiler, the primus a little bit more flexible, but you cant really "cook" on either of them.
That last comment was no disrespect to the video poster of the video. Glad he proved a good point the Jetboil is a slight slower "But big deal" the sad part is you spend 90 bucks more to be a bit slower and be locked into a Jetboil pot. You cant use a fry pan or big pot and if you do make one work "there is no heat exchanger" boil times go down etc.. Save your money. Buying the latest gear out is generally for the suckers that keep the neon colored companies pinching your wallet.
Seriously all this is nonsense.. If you going to choose to spend 90 dollars more just so you can
"BOIL" water 30 or 45 seconds faster you seriously have no business hiking or camping if thats your objective.. Pathetic.. Its like comparing saving a whole once off a tent with a shiny new color on it and spending another whole 100 dollars to own one. Thats a whole 100 bucks to bring a friend on the trip with you. Seriously most that compare stupid details like this are weekend warriors.
Great review! Personally, I like my MSR Dragonfly because of the many types of fuels I'm able to use, but these little stoves sure do serve a good purpose.
I use the EtaExpress pot/lid in conjuction with the Snow Peak Gigapower, which is an awesome combination. I also use the pot in conjunction with a home made wood gasifier stove which works incredibly fast, but creates a little soot.
Definately something wrong here, first the flame should not be bright yellow, that indicates either a non-iso butane canister or one that is on its last legs. Second, there is no reason why it would take over 3 minutes to boil. There are several videos here that prove the Jetboil boils around 2 minutes. Something is wrong with your Jetboil.
@lilricky2515 if you look closely before i put the pot on the jetboil you will see that the flame is blue, not yellow. The yellow/orange you can see is the gauze on the burner glowing. I'm assuming you own a jetboil and already know that.
@kittykatkevin I could do that, and put the lid on the primus too, which would mean the primus would still win this test. In fact, in the field (where it counts) where you always boil with a lid to save fuel, the jetboil with the lid on is still slower to boil the same amount of water as the primus without a lid (primus pot has a wider base). At the end of the day in a camp situation, boiling water in less that 3 minutes is not really that critical! This test is purely an observation
For it size, the Primus ETA Express comes with a (small) frying pan. Small is better than none and it doubles as a lid. I don't know about you, but a lid/frying pan big enough for an egg and three or four sausage links works for a solo kayaker or hiker. Heck, if you're out in the BWCA, you can fry up some the catch of the day even but still have a compact fry and boil system that suits a soloist.
That was a horrable vid u put the jetboil on last u aready had the other stove on plus it's flame on the jetboil should be blue not yellow use jetboils fule from rei for about 5 $ it will give u 12 boils and will boil that water in 2 mins
@uncoolkid2 Both stoves were on and the pots went on at the same time as the video shows? both had new cartidges which i swapped over and repeated the burn test, burn times were about the same as here. Its not meant to be a scientific test, just a comparison. Jetboil is my favourite, but experience in the field echos what is shown here, the primus is faster.
Relax. I sell both and both are good. I also sell Trangia Alcohol stoves which are slower but don't require disposal of the canisters. I don't even worry about the speed. Who cares if one is a little quicker than the other. When camping or hiking. Who is in a hurry. Besides Alcohol stoves can't break. No Moving parts. Nevertheless I enjoyed the video comparison.

bogus! Why was the jetboil burning yellow???? Low on FUEL!! Try agin and keep them equal. Just because your buddy has one and you have the other does not mean your's is quicker. Junk video.
@freewill51 I own both stoves, and use the jetboil more because its easier to setup, but the primus is faster. I've done this experiments a several times, and swapped cartridges for testing fairness, the primus is always faster. The cartridges were both new.
I've used my jetboil at over 10,000ft and had water boiling in under two minutes! The Jetboil's design makes it the easiest and most efficient backpack stove to use!
I had bet on the Jetboil if you had ask me before.
On other videos here the jetboil seems to be faster at the boiling point. I think the Primus is wider and so it has more room to absorbing the heat. And maybe the burner itself is better.
(Gas consuption would be also very interesting)
The major point at the jetboil imho still is not the speed (wich is already very good) but the whole design, the handleing and the little ammount of package space it needs.
It would have been interesting to do that with 2 full fuel cans and weigh them after to compare fuel consumption, maybe the Jetboil used less per unit of burn time? Also how do they do with a bit of wind, and with their lids on?
I have just myself narrowed my next stove down to these two. My last weeklong trip showed me how bad my Trangia stove is for the purpose of boiling water especially. The JetBoil is a huge investment if one wants the ability to use a frying pan etc. I'm leaning towards the Eta Express.
i have a jetboil , and yes the cozy is meant to be used whilst heating,
and mine does 2 cups of cold water from the tap in 3 min exactly, i also tried 2 cups in the jetboil 1.5l pot and it boiled in 3 mins exactly with no differnece in time, both time i had the lids on which must help a bit,
i really like the fact that the jetboil clips together making it very stable,
Hi, Im loking to buy a new stove. like these. Im not sure what category they're. All this time Ive been using homade alcohol stove. But I want something better. So I was wondering a few things. Is the jetboil pot supposed to be used witht he cozy on. Also, If anyone has any recomendations, Please message me. Im a little confused.
The point of the faster boil times is efficiency. Using less time and fuel to boil .5l of water means packing less fuel - so I don't think it's overkill.
nice job.....to me a primus is a real stove...a Jetboil is a volcano waiting to blow! ok for boiling water....but not for cooking anything! and not very fast. thanks
Jetboil plenty efficient.I can boil 2 cups of water in under 2 minutes My jetboil scares people when I ignite it with gas barely on. The last thing it needs is to boil water faster. This imo is just overkill.
Jetboil flame is not blue. Means it's defective and cannot ne compare to a new stove with blue flame. Blue is the hottest flame fyi.

I've seen other comparisons,
and the Jetboil ALWAYS throws a yellow flame
while the (faster) Primus always throws a blue flame.
Don't trash the tester just because you don't like the results.

I find this video highly suspicious. I've never broken two minutes on a boil in my Jetboil. Something is rotten in Denmark.

Why is the ETA Expresses flame blue and the jetboil yellow - it would seem that the blue flame would be faster right off the bat?
