Where you have films like the Saw franchise, I feel they need to up the gore level to keep a part of the audience coming back for the next installment.

Anyone can argue that his movies aren't masterpieces plot-wise or what have you, but keep in mind the POTENTIAL he has to become better. That's how you can tell they have no idea what they are talking about, their just looking at the blood. Roth is giving audiences the reality of what doing things like that look like. The story isn't about veterinary science or something.
