okay I've been 2 see the specials once, the jam once and madness three times, and im going to see madness again this year twice but they were never half as good as this concert and i don't expect it to be this year.
best bands britain has produced the beatles rolling stones slade the jam the specials the smiths stone roses oasis that is ur fucking lot no bands can touch this lot
@nrjelley No duh, Einstein. I'm replying to msangh2003's comment about the best bands to come out of Britain. Now go back to your ipod and put on some more Justin Bieber
@SAINTPAULPAUL lol ok calm down mate, I didn't know that's what you were discussing! By the way I don't like Justin Bieder, I actually want to kick his head off! =)
@nrjelley Hey sorry to sound like such a dickhead...it just seems that no matter what I post on youtube, somebody's gotta say something! My apologies, have a great day! As the Stranglers said, "There's always the sun...."
Is definitively NOT punk, but The Specials had a lot of influences by early British punk rock in their sound. That's why they call it "Two tone", a modern, British version of Jamaican ska.
Actually they called it "Two-Tone" because that was the name of the main record company that was pumping out a lot of 2nd wave Ska albums... Two-Tone records.
i love this kinda ska, ya know? the specials, bad manners, toots and maytals, the selecter, mr. symarip, the beat, but i dont like the newer kind of ska, like reel big fish, streetlight manifesto, plannet smashers, i dont know why, i just perfer the older ska
people said this about me cos i had 3 kids by time i was 20....at least i was there fro me kids....i was into this before came out...i wouldnt change for the world
Hi people, this is Blair from Terry, Blair & Anouchka. I put up the video of Ultra modern Nursery Rhymes and received a disclaimer from Jerry Sadowitz that I was infringing his copyright. How sad is this? A harmless video, no money changes hands, it's not played on TV and the only exposure is through web sites like YouTube.
I'm only in my late teens, but been brought up with all this music due to my family being into Ska etc. Love it - songs that actually have meaning unlike todays 'pop' songs. Ergh!
love reading comments like this. if you're 16 and feeling this sh*t, then you have a great taste in music son. dig into the clash too if you haven't yet
Love it at the end of the video when the fans start jumping up on the stage with The Specials. That alone shows us just how loved and important they were. I'm glad to see they got back together again.
Back when concerts were actually fun to go too. now people have to be 3 to 5 feet from the stage and everyones damn cameras are always flashing ruining the magic of its 'liveness'
so many memories.. parties, girls singing this line for line, cigarettes, kissing, assembly, bad freinds, first time sex, watching your first freinds band, two tone movement, ska massives, black ties pork pie shoes, bomber jackets!. LORDs (head slaps of the day), Melvin (panties squeeze of the day), unhooking bras!, reciting the lyrics from Ska tunes the longest, underage drinking, loosing your virginity! Teacher lust! oohh!!
Calm down dude, no one's gonna accuse you of being racist just for that! He says "Oh no, no gimme no more pickney". (Pickney is Jamaican patois for a child/children)
What is not debatable is that Punk is dead, Green Gay, Sum 41 and many other American queers lifted the tombstone over that genre once and for all in 2005.
Also, Madness' recent material is definitely not relighting the fire, nor did the ordinary boys, if you remember them from a couple of years back.
There might not be good punk and ska bands around nowadays, but there are variations of the two, new genres and other genres.
there are still strong punks scenes across the world. and there are many, many great bands out there. Just because a few shitty bands got recognized doesnt mean that the scene has died.
iainnmacdo Check out Babylon Circus, Manu Chao and Cat Empire, maybe you'll get some inspiration. These bands mix a lot of styles including ska. Good luck with your band!
In 1979 I was a 15 year old prog fan, on holiday in England... but when I got home I cut my hair and I was spreading the 2-Tone gospel! This was a wonderful anti-racist pro-fun vibe, it was a wave of optimism, of speaking up, of thinking about politics, of forming bands instead of only listening to them.
Musically I grew out of ska again, later on, but I still appreciate this very, very much!
