If you play the Co-Op if gives you a boost in story mode. But you dont need to play it.

You can just play story mode and get the same results.

I can understand the skepticism on having multi-player in an Epic RPG like Mass Effect, yet, it is within it's proper place and it doesn't effect the single player or the story line. I read an article that it's a lot like Horde in Gears of War and Firefight in Halo; except it actually has some objectives in it other than killing til you win or lose. I heard that it could be used in the single player as well but it was not split screen and it was co-op operated. So it would merely be having

Lots of people thought the same about Portal 2, and Valve has way more street cred than EA, so no wonder this is infested with naysayer nerds.

Only crappy EA decisions could ruin ME3. Learn from Bethesda, they made a lot of money from Skyrim without Day 1 DLC, overly intrusive DRM or marketing gimmicks.
