  • good job dude

  • WOW that is just Great! You can hear the drums better than in the original and they are spot on! never thought I would EVER prefer listening to a cover over an original- awesome!!

  • Just great! man your playing never gets old and inspires me to try harder!.

  • Thanks. TCE is a favorite. And it has added spice seeing someone pound it out. Very good!!

  • 6:54 fucking sweet

  • you sir, are marvelous.

  • nice job- thats a crapload of memorization to remember all his licks & fills on a 10 min song, cuz its different each time thru the verses & chorus

  • Dude - That was fantastic! - Thx for letting me watch :-)

  • Hat tip to you - this is excellent, well done, well practiced :)

  • an amazing version ,my friend.though I have never been a fan of identical fills and so forth when playing to a song.this way it feels fresh everytime...Peart is a tactician on the skins.incredible vid..

  • <3

  • Nice work man.

  • great drumming dude, rush had some swanky songs on moving pictures album,i loved witch hunt.

  • You might find this amusing... swapping out a tom in the middle of the song... dunno if you've seen it or not.... search this "Neil Peart of RUSH plays "The Camera Eye" without a TOM at the Ahoy Arena Rotterdam 27-May-2011"

I could listen to this song 50000 times and not get tired of it!! in fact, I think I have... and I'm not tired of it yet :-)

  • @Paulk9pg Thanks! I had not seen that. Very cool. You can tell Neil was a little bit out of balance there - the 13" tom is his most used tom in his arsenal. Equipment problems can be a nightmare but he did well. TCE is also one of my all time favorites!

  • @Paulk9pg nicely said sir and neither have i... :]

  • sweet job, awesome

  • just a bum interpreting his stuff, nothing more......very good

  • dude those all guys above me talk alot lol, faster words, ur cover was awesome!

  • what does it really take to get to this level of drumming???? is it dedication? or is it just natural talent

  • @RWynn64 practice < that or you have to sell your soul :P

  • TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!

    Damnit Man!!!!

I love Rush, and dude, That was tough as nails!

I was entertained the entire time!

  • Nice job bro. i only have an electronic set

  • In all honestly dude your timing is friggin awesome

  • Just got back from a Rush gig in London. The only difference between you and Neil is that Neil makes it look so easy...I guess that's why we all love him, right?

  • @schirmmutze I wish it was true. The main - and huge difference - between Neil and me is that he created all of that stuff. He is a creative genius, with the chops coming with it. I'm just a bum interpreting his stuff, nothing more.

  • @Astrotama That fact about interpretation gets me every time. Here i'm struggling to play a rush song, learning it, practicing it, all taking months of perseverance. Then i realize neil made it from scratch :O . lol

  • Great to see you will be getting your wish as this is definitely on the set list!!

    Thanks again for giving.

  • Bravo dude, t'es vraiment tight! Cette toune-là est vraiment bonne pour le cardio!

  • I hear ya', young man! You were dead on.....lick for lick. Gotta love another Rush fan(atic). Hail to The Kings!!!!!!

  • Awesome job. You have inspired me to get back on my drumset after quite a while !

  • You are very very good at druming good job!

  • If you can play ONE Rush tune, you're ahead of the game.... This dude rocked it out! He could Prolly play many of them! He picked an awesome one! And it was probably the most difficult! Sorry... long time Rush Fan, and this dude deserves Kudos.... He's awesome! Keep it up! YOU Rock!

  • i close my eyes and i see peart.best drummer for the best rush song!!!!

  • awesome....sooooo jealous....nice job man!

  • Dude!!! Sick, I mean REALLY tightly SICK! freakin' 10 minute song and you nailed it!

  • Wow dude, i cant imagine how much practice it took to nail the whole song on drums in 1 run, considering its 10 minutes long. Well done

  • astro, how do we go see your tribute band, website?

  • THIS DUDE ROCKS!

  • hey nice kit, nice cymbals too

  • Tight! (: Well done, great cover!

  • In the Zone,my friend,in THE ZONE!!

  • you got some seriously skills man:D:D:D:D

  • Nice cymbal/high-hat work from 5:37-5:58, man. Always liked that segment in the original.

  • The fact that it is a 10 minute song says a lot about your ability as a drummer.

  • Pretty difficult song to pick for your first Rush song. Neil was intense on lyrics and drums on the song. Keep up the good drumming and keep psyching out those asteroids!!!

  • Incredibly tight! Superb work.

  • Performances like this make me want to just hang up my sticks.. Very very good!!!!! ;)

  • Great Job! Spot on!!

  • Hey man...I was wondering if you ever heard of this band called RUSH? They really kick ass...They have this awesome drummer named Neal Peart, you should check them out. You may like it ;)

  • Great job As usual Astro !!!!,,,right to a TEE....

Im going to see the Time Machine Tour , April 19 in Hamilton Ontario .....wish you could come,,,,

Have to ever watched " Ray Harber " rush drumming videos? he's a Rush nut like you....you are both inspirations....

  • CHINGON GENIAL

  • @jaimehsm: Verdad que toca chingon este wey? Yo tengo todos los videos de este tipo. Toca como el mismisimo Neil Peart! Saludos, camarada.

  • " KICK ASS !!! " YOU ARE A GREAT DRUMMER !!!

  • Oh God. What an incredible song.

  • solid as dude!!!! right in the pocket!!! great stuff!!

  • eres un mounstruo men!!!! felicitaciones!!!! soy tu fan!!! !saludos!

  • Great playing! BUT can you write a lyric like Mr. Peart? Kidding! Again, from one musician and Rush fan to another, you rock!

  • 2:04 has so much power. Every time I play that part on guitar, I wish there was a crash around to punch.

  • This guy is pretty damn good, but what he is really showing you is just how hard Neal Pert's job really is. Neal Pert has to play this song perfect plus another 15 other songs perfect live. I wanna see this guy do that. :-)

  • @Anthony11598 Heh! Yeah... I wanna see Neil do that to!

    Nice job Astrotama =)

  • @Anthony11598 more like another 30 rush's set is around 3 hours

  • NIce, you may have missed your calling.

  • DAMN! Great work!!!

  • 3 words: HOLY...FUCKING.....SHIIIIT that was amazing my sir

  • Rush are one of the most inspirational things on the planet.....and you my friend prove it. Beautiful work

  • excellent job, from one drummer to another-peart would be proud

  • awesome dude, that was amazing...and beautiful set by the way... :D

  • Your an astrophysicist? So you think your smart, huh? Joking of course. What university did you attend just out of curiosity. I bet being a scientist is better than living in a van, down by the river. Do you also hang out with Pauliewanna?

  • @pbonney No, I'm quite dumb in fact. ;) I got my M.Sc and Ph.D in Quebec City. Being a scientist is ok but it has its challenges (like finding the time to play the drums...). Pauliewanna is a good YT friend.

  • @Astrotama Astro rocks pauliweanna not even close in the talent arena but eh, just sayin

  • The best is drumming is your hobby... Not bad, man. I am a lifelong Rush fan and a drummer of 20+ years.. Let me also give you major props. Few people realize how difficult it is to play along with Neil. I certainly do. Great work!

  • that cymbal work at the 5:36 mark is some of the most beautiful arrangement in the Peart canon. i mean, man... that part just makes the song stand out so strong in the catalog of all Rush tunes. just brilliant work, man... outstanding!

  • Best fucking Rush song EVAR!

  • Kudos! I've been watching your videos of and on and I gotta say, not only did you nail the tune, you got some killin; tones on the kit! Nice mic job and mix! Keep it up and Have FUN!!

  • Nice Job! I love playing the drums to this entire album. I think like you I know every note that Neil is playing. I always wanted to sit in for him for a song or 2, I think nobody could tell the difference in the 2 of you guys

  • I have goosebumps 0.o

  • please re-do this one as "new".......wow!!!!

  • Tama? this guy knows what hes doing.............. props man great job.

  • wow nice job dude sounds AMAZING!

  • Great performance!! Keep going! It's also the first song Rush wrote for Moving Pictures!

  • yes i finally did it. called DW and bought the neil peart kit. but only the pdp one i couldnt afford the real DW kit. with cymbals was a cool $5,000.ouch!! my wife cried! but she doesn't know the power of RUSH. I'm watching your videos right now and trying to keep up, i think my wife finally gets it!! thank you my friend. brian 2112 forever!

  • Dude...nice work! Forget about being in a Rush Tribute band...you won't find a record deal that way, unless you don't want one. :) Otherwise, form an all original group of great musicians, quite your day job, buy a cheap van to lug your equipment, and play in as many bars as you can! You can sleep in the van!!! Also, can you get these tracks somewhere without Neil playing? I hear his drumming in the background during the fills.

  • @jumbleothia Well, I already have a career as an astrophysicist so living in a van will not happen... well, I hope! ;) Drumming is a hobby.

  • @jumbleothia All I can say is WOW. I stumbled across you playing while looking for some old Rush to listen to. Let me tell you, and I'm sure you already have heard it, that was incredible. Yeah it wasn't 100% but 99.9% is damn close. Being a drummer myself, I watched in amazement shaking my head. Learning and practicing to get Neil Peart to a science is no small task, and you have mastered it. Congratulations!!! Im looking so forward to watching your other videos. Thank you so much!!!!

  • From someone that got their fist tattoo at 47 (yes it's the starman)

Very nice, and well done. Go light on the bell, and the hi-hat in the "intern" easy.

A little strong. But very good!!!!

    Dennis

  • For God's sake man! I think Neil alone would have a hard enough time keeping precisely in sync with his own material, but you seem to do it flawlessly! If you haven't already, you should REALLY try to find some great players like yourself, and a singer that's as good as Gary, and do a RUSH tribute band. Either way, I'm sending your stuff around on FaceBook to other RUSH fans to see, hear, and admire, and definately haved Subscribed to ya as well. AWESOME PLAYING my good Sir!!!!

  • @chrishooper68 Thanks man! I have been playing this song for a long time so keeping it together was not too difficult. And yes, I'm in a Rush tribute band.

  • Reply to Astrotama -- What's the name of the band? Got any videos on YouTube? And do/have ya ever play/ed around the St. Louis area?

  • @Astrotama And why wouldn't you be in a Rush tribute band. Neil would be proud of your efforts. Dude you do a great job. I really mean it. And yes I do play myself. So it's more than just someone impressed. Keep it up brother.

  • Great ! I'd like to see your left hand bounce up off the snare. instead of trying to go through the snare and hold it. cool just a tip.

  • very very good...keep at it and continue with this beautiful craft.

  • I love 5;15 to 6:22. Unbelievable goddamn yer good

  • you rocked it once again...in the pocket..you are a true drummer bro

  • Wow! One of the most accurate covers on Youtube! I can tell you worked real hard studying this song because all the fills as well as subtleties on the hi-hat were perfect! I applaud you, Astrotama.

  • I have been practicing this very song lately. Pretty difficult for me at this time (right harm is taking a beating). But this is great what you showed. I love to watch Neil play, but I really get most out of watching others play as far as really learning the song.

  • Nice playing. You know they are playing this song again on their tour this year.

  • Flagged as inappropriate. There were no stick spins or flips.

    :)

  • Solid groove.

  • Amazing, you even have the Neil Peart "tick" down (1:15). Have you seen them this tour?

  • I don't know who the hell you are, but that was VERY well done. Kudos man!

  • That's damned amazing man! I don't know how you can remember all those fills! That's a long song to remember!

  • Dude, I can't even play that good on my air drums! Outstanding! Mad skills bigboy! I spy stuff in the back.

  • Simply............Unbelievable! Peart, Collins, Pyle, Watts, "Bonzo", White....and YOU!

Damn, if Neil every gets ill on tour, you could fill in. GREAT JOB on a hard but great song.

  • This is one of my all-time fav Rush songs and you did a great job bro!

  • Best song on Moving Pictures in my opinion.

  • ive been a RUSH fan for 30 yrs. and a drummer for the same.

well played, thank you for your efforts. this tour they will play moving pictures in its entirety. i hope you can make it.

    keep on rocking.

  • @eman2112 Yes, I have seen them twice on this tour already. Hearing TCE again - I saw them play it on the SIgnals tour - was just way too cool!

  • Hi man, fantasic playing! How do you work it all out?? ive been trying for literally years have you any tips coz every fill is nailed.Im not to bad at the time/riding sections but the fills..i just can't decipher em' stickings etc.Ps can you record/upload either the weapon or lessons please!!

  • @343434richie Fills: It's not always easy with Neil. Sometimes I have to learn these fills one hit with a stick at the time. There is no magic though. It's a lot of listening and remembering some of the tools that Neil uses over his career. And sometimes, it's just guessing!

  • @Astrotama thanks for your reply, kinda nice to know you find them difficult too!your patience is outstanding but the love and devotion us rush fans is dare i say biblical! Ps have you seen jamie borden's dvd where he plays through songs from p. waves,m. pics and signals?-its ok but patchy on the explanations.Have you considered doing like a voice over of the pieces explaining time signatures, fill construction/length etc.ps what are the tools you speak ?anyway looking forward to your next upload

  • @343434richie No, I have never seen that video but heard of it. I wish I had the time to do what you mention. But that's a problem for me... I don't play drums more than a few hours a week, if I'm lucky, and now when I do is to practice with my band or learn the songs of our setlist. Oh well. The "tools" are little drum patterns and figures that Neil applies through his career. When you get them once, it's usually easier to understand a fill, etc. next time they comes back in another song...

  • @Astrotama I hear you on the lack of time-ive spend an hour and more before now just trying to fiqure out the little snare fiqures on the opening to the camera eye-and thete's still 9 min to go! its a very humbling experience but i'll perservere. Here in England Rush tributes are very rare probably for the above reasons-time stand still indeed! keep up the excellent work and i hope you will upload the weapon soon, love that song, the drumming(of course) and alex's solo exquiste-cheers

  • @343434richie

I am no.. by all means... NO drum player but the difference between Neil and the other is that he does not play a "structured" line of drumming... It comes from the inside and THAT can barely imitated. I don't think Neil plans... he just DO!

SOOOOOO... just DO if you got the timing, you'll get the drift just follow it... AND follow what you heart tells you!

That is the way I feel Neil drumming.

  • Wow! I dont know what to say! Wow! I have been a Rush fan since I was 15 years old, turn 50 tommorow, and Ive never seen anyone copy the Professor like that. You are truly fantastic and should be on the "Lighted Stage". Good Luck in the future!

  • You are Very Good, Would be a Rock Star. Apply Yourself

  • Dude, where have you been hiding? Brilliant cover! Best!!

  • Crackin tune! My favourite Rush song, with all aspects of drum rhythms in one. Topped off by brilliant imitation and timing! Drums tuned to perfection-Fantastico!!

  • this is THE track that caused me to become a Rush fan, I havent heard it since my tape screwed up in the late 80s due to excessive playing. My first Rush album and now my latest, reunited at last . Cheers Dude your a starman ;-)

  • @deicidedad Thanks! Well, I'm an astronomer, yes.... ;) TCE is the first Rush song i ever tried to play on a drumset (I started playing years before that but "discovered" Rush only in 1980 or so). I played it badly I'm sure and promised myself that some day I would be able to play decent versions of those songs. Still trying! ;)

  • yo astrotama will you be air drumming in Vegas? Ha!

  • Amazing, dude, you must be wore out, that's like 10 straight minutes of awesome. Life-long Rush fan, here. First show in 84.

  • Uncanny... loved it.

  • insane drumset.

  • Great job man

  • WOW! Great job... One of my favourite Rush songs, gives you a close up look at Pearts style. I went to the Bay fest concert in Sarnia 3 weeks ago to see Rush, still havin withdrawls from the rush, your drums helped out, thanks

  • i am amazed, you are brilliant. thank you for posting a wonderful video. one of my favourite Rush songs ever and you did a fantastic job of it. i could go on but i'm running out of superlatives,,,, you f*****g rock mate. briliant, brilliant, brilliant.

  • 2:18 and on i bet you spent some time on that part....very good...

  • you're the best peart imitator. you saw them on the plains in quebec... i thought you moved to arizona

  • @cinderellamannn I did but I travel to Quebec once a year or so. Going to see them in Vegas in 2 weeks....

  • @Astrotama I'm seeing them in 4 days on my birthday in Auburn, WA. :]

  • @Astrotama , good with electronics and comp_bs, excellent on the Kit. Go For It

  • People don't hate me but i respect what this guy is doing 100% but really to copy peart that much to get an entire drumset that's a little nuts don't you think?

  • MY HEAD ASSPLODE. YOU ROCK!

  • You got your wish! Camera Eye is on the setlist for the Time Machine tour... along with the rest of Moving Pictures. Caught them last week and it was awesome!

  • the focus is sharp in your basement my friend! Outstanding work on a tough song to master.

  • I just saw Rush this week in CT, and while they are always awesome, there were some songs that I could tell they hadn't played in a while....like, this one. You give it justice man, and I bow to you....

  • What can I say that hasn't already been said. Dude, you rock! sbbytor should write something more original that Rush then chime in. Keep it up.

  • Watched several of your vids - I been playing drums off and on for over 20 years. You are better than me man. Spot on - rock solid. You make that kit sing!

  • WOW! Great job. Now go write something original and impress us :)

  • Great job. I'm counting the days to Aug. 9 here in the Bay Area.

  • Dude! Rarely get chills outside of watching the real thing, and this did it. Never seen anyone do it quite like that, considering the 10+ minute marathon of a song. Awesome!

  • You owned it! Good job!

  • This dude is awesome! Right on the money.

  • Fuck dude you even have the same breathing pattern as Peart. Awesome dude I wish you were my neighbour. I so happy to see Rush still effects the younger generation. And to think I used to think Metallica was the band.....LOL. Ill never forget the day I was listening to Lardz Ulrich doin a solo and I was like "WoW!" and my buddy brother totally slammed him through me a "cassette tape" of Rush and told me to grow up. And ever since that day..Rush Rules!!!. Backstage passes tomorrow ACC Toronto

  • @dinglenutzz Thanks! But I'm not of the younger generation... :( I jsut turned 46 and have been a fan for 30 years.... Saw Rush in Quebec City last night. It was UNREAL. Maybe 100 000 people too!

  • Excellent job, man!!!

  • I'm amazed at how authentic this is. Well done!

  • Awesome!

  • Kudos to you! Very impressed that you would even attempt such an challenge! You nailed it.

  • Awesome job man. Looks like a difficult song to do and you nailed it..

  • Excellent! Is that one of the more difficult Rush songs to master. Seems pretty complicated.

  • Very good man! Too far away to see you guys, otherwise I'd be there!

  • Awsome

  • lets start a band!!!!!

  • GO RUSH!!!!!!!!

  • I can only play this song on RB2... lol

  • Solid cover bro, but put that left hand pinky finger away ;)

  • It looks like you were using traditional grip on the first part of the song and then you switched to matchbox. If that is true, Why?

  • @heashon2000 Yup! I have a better control of my rolls and rudiments with traditional grip. I taught myself that way.

  • Hey what ride do you use, it sounds really nice

  • @Mitosis99 All cymbals are Sabian Paragons.

  • Dead On Dude!!

  • You got skills man...and while RUSH is awesome, you have the chops to go be your own star...Like Geddy said: I'll set my sights on the stars, won't get that far but I'll try anyway...best wishes. -CG

  • Great job on one of my top five all time favorite Rush songs since 1983. Thanks for performing so well on a song that's not played live anymore.

  • ok, u gonna be Neal's replacemnt soon duuuuude...

  • great job dude

  • You ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

  • you are awesome kid!!!I wish I would of done this when I first thought of it when I was a teen but i didn't...kids like you are living your dreams I yet may be a dreamer but i enjoy watching talent like you .....rock on....RUSH TRULY RULES

  • Awesome job man you rock ...keep it up!!

  • Dude, Ya Nailed it! SWEEEEET!!!! Outstanding Performance! THANKS!!!!

  • WOW, bro, thank you.

  • Excellent job.

  • Good one Bros!

  • CAMERA EYE!!! AND JACOBS LADDER!! Time machine tour!!! ahhhh!!!!

  • Yup! I have been waiting to hear TCE again since 1983... About time!!!!

  • Wicked job dude you rock!!

  • One of the best drumming videos I've seen on this site. Dude, you do the Professor proud. Phenomenal job.

  • Excellent job!! Keep going.

  • You should find some exceptional players and a tribute band tour the US. There are quite a few in Brazil, especially in the Southern third of the country. They are always packing the crowds. There doesn't seem to be much interest in this here in the states.
