O'Reilly is a 'character' on his show in much the same way as Jon Stewart is on his own show, and to a slightly lesser extent than Stephen Colbert is on his show. I have to say, SOSTJohnson is right. If Stewart ever said similar things back to O'Reilly, Bill would have gotten pissed and his head would have exploded from anger. Stewart was very cordial considering all the sarcastic back handed slaps Bill kept saying to Stewart to try to diminish him.

Anyway, if you hold everybody up to Jon Stewart's standards everybody is going to look terrible. Rally to Restore Sanity is about providing a voice for people who do not just resort to harsh language and name calling at every turn check it out.

I think you could learn something, like not to be such a patronizing prick. There are already jews christians and muslims that get along.. But when people are in a country where muslims want to kill you because of an ideology they have, then friendly chats won't fix it even if they happen at all. It is true that in some cases, even with crazy people , you might have a friendly chat on another topic, but the ideology is still there with serious people.

@prplhz0r "Get along"? Hardly. I believe Jon Stewart was restraining himself from putting Bill in his place, and O'Reilly's contempt was as ill-concealed as his bigoted views. There's no getting along here; there is merely Stewart proving that Fox News only employs close-minded intolerants that don't understand satire and speak only for their created "folks". But not to belittle your point of getting along - that's a great idea. I would simply recommend searching for a more appropriate example.

WOW! make a few more inappropriate edits O'Reily, I lost count at 8. If he was going to invite Jon on the show, the least he could do was try to have a valid discussion instead of berating and ridiculing him over inane issues. Heck, even giving Stewart a chance to respond would have been an improvement over this ambush. I will say that it didn't seem like Jon was as focused as he could have been, but then again that could just be a product of the massive inappropriate edits.

He has nothing to say though... and he knows it.
He has to talk down to Stewart in this quasi confused, passive aggressive way so that his audience thinks Stewart is inconsequential, or rather, full of "nonsense." OReilly knows that he himself is an asshole, and an actor playing a part. He knows he's occasionally lying about whatever needs to be lied about and he's more concerned with book sales than anything else.
It's incredibly beautiful and fucked up that other people don't know that.

It is interesting if you watch these interviews (the old ones included) how O'Reily seems to have lost some traction to his arguments. Where he used to hammer a point till some one caved in, now he is the one bouncing around the topics.
