  • (sigh) the robot is lame. and the line is poorly exicuted. ok the remiagining of BSG worked so much so it excelled over the orginal. but that was a once in a life time deal. remaking V and doing this just dosent work. so yeah i am glad this did not sell.

  • This episode tried to do too much, too quickly. The sets are a wreck, with the lighting and color being a big problem. The characters were too unlikable, and Jeff Goldblum as the main bad guy/race, and some dumb ass kids and no Dr. Smith. I say Lost In Space is pretty much dead.

  • cool

  • cool:)

  • Ok, I can see them ripping off the music from BSG during the innitial overflight of the colony ship, but now they are ripping off music from The Abyss during the space battle. Add to it the sloppy job done on the green screen displays and I'm seriously thinking this was done in someone's garage.

  • @Gutpunchtaker Ha Ha, I Agree. Not familiar props, Terrible color or lack of color. Ugly grey backgrounds. Un-likable characters. This doesn't even resemble lost in space. I think they stole one of the sound effect from star trek or somewhere.

  • They should have retitled this "SUCKORAMA".

  • No Dr smith, bad robot, horny judy, dull don, bland mom, penny is a frickin baby, annoying will, the ship sucks, David plot twist to corny, alien suit were home made Halloween costumes, the only cool thing was john (kickass) Robinson. Oh and the music was too mushy. All in all, crap in space.

  • No Doctor Smith? No thanks.

  • STOP just please stop with re-makes. and rip offs~ of classics-

Even music---- You think the theme of Weeds is not a rip off? Check Marvina! or That Dr show- with Hugh whatever...is not a rip off from the Boom Town Rats..."I don't like Mondays??? It's all been done before- and that Ga Ga is the biggest "thife a dem all"

  • If they had edited this entire pilot down to a 2-minute clip, it would have sucked so much faster.

  • Interesting to see the rough cuts of things like this. Noticed that they used the music for Disney's Atlantis, there at the end. They REALLY could have used a technical advisor. That ship was a death-trap, from pressure doors that did not close automatically on loss of pressure, to interior doors that couldn't tell when they were crushing someone to death. Of course, the real way it ended was that they were reduced to a thin neutron film on a black hole. Sigh.

  • It wasn't that bad. I've seen worse (remember that garbage called Flash Gordon on SyFy). The casting of John & Maureen was passable. But the actors playing Don & David was off. They should have swapped them in the rolls, out for the other. Not being a rabid LIS fan. I didn't mind the new family dynamics. Over all, borderline fair. I would have watched, just out of curiosity. But bad directing, muddled acting and sloppy casting is evident. And the shameless incident music stolen from "The Abyss"

  • @Blackrook32 I would say that if this was sold, there would have been some changes and it would a bit different than what we see here. I think this had a lot of potential, and I did grow up watching the original, though it was cancelled two years before I was born, I still watched it in reruns. I'm all for change and taking out Dr. Smith would fix the problem of having a person for lord knows how many seasons as the lurking bad guy.

  • Conceptually all they had to do was change the family name & everyones I.D. I'll tell you why! Because void of the names, it was almost completely different from the movie and the T.V. show. Think about it folks. Not WB, but going to SciFi (SyFy)with this. Then SciFi(SyFy) would have went to Mallozi . You know that Mallozi from SG-1 and Co. Ask him what could he do with this? Thats the key, the actors have no background. You can create new I.D's with new adventures. Were along for the ride.

  • It's obvious why the pilot didn't sell. If the acting was any worse, it would be the original...

  • @ecj75 The actors in the original were fine, but they didn't belong with each other. Jonathan could have scored in a Mel Brooks movie but June and Angela should have done Tennessee Williams. Blow out the candles, Penny.

  • @ZenPapageno Cinematography and John Williams score in Season 1 - to die for

  • lost in shit.

  • Klingon B*****s you killed my son..... whoops wrong david

  • Is everybody alright?

Errrr not really. The script was completely shit.

  • Yes it could have been better but the original was a joke. The movie was O.K.

Those of you who idolize the TV series as being so great............you need help.

  • Oh look, the aliens are using Seburo Compact-eXploder handguns.

They must like Masamune Shirow's manga and anime.

  • it's not horrible. I would have watched it.

  • I would have wanted to watch this series. There's more action than in the 1st Season of the new V.

  • Watched all 5 episodes...bloody hell...i thought it was brilliant.

  • Yeah lets steal plot points from the movie jesus this is crap I swear John Woo just phoned this in

  • I guessing the aliens abducted david rather than killed him and we would have found that out had the show been picked up

  • No Smith,

    No Show....

  • As if doing the movie wasn't a wakeup call. They tried to do it again with abysmal results. Hello Mc'Fly anybody home? We wanted a little updating of the tech in original show with surviving cast members. Then you could ease us into a new cast etc. Ever heard of a thing called Star Trek? Did they toss away old cast and all original hardware? No they brought back original cast and did minor updates to hardware. Then they eased us into Next Generation.

  • This piece of junk is up there with Plan 9 from Outer Space and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes

  • Not well thought out at all. The casting of Will is weak and making Penny a baby is daft to say the least. The losing of the eldest son at the end was a failed bid for the sympathy vote. This is a mish mash of bad dialogue and patchy, directionless production. To get this near air quality it needs a rewrite, a recast, a reshoot...hell, just junk it all and start again! This should be renamed, The Robinsons: Lost In Production.

  • Where the hell is Penny?Ok if Penny is suppose to be that baby the piolet deserved to not be bought.how assinine.

  • Where the hell is Penny?

  • Will isn't cute enough.

  • David was Gay anyway

  • The pilot was pretty good. It's a shame the series didn't go forward. I would have traded one of these shows for a dozen of those reality shows that are on now.

  • Anyone who didn’t know David had to disappear please raise your hand. Now smack yourself .

  • besides...the original, although one of my absolute faves(i grew up on it)...we are in a new time now, and should move on, not ever forgetting the original...

  • hell i liked the pilot...hope someone like syfy picks it up soon...space...family...oh hell give it a friffin chance...looks as good as anything else out there...and definately beats all the BULLSHIT "realality shows" out there...uuugh what a bunch of misguided pencil pushers

  • Yawn. Wake me when it's over. I'll stick with the original, thanks.

  • horrible!

  • Brutal.. no wonder it did not sell

  • Can there be a tf family that is wildly dysfunctional for once. How many times have we seen the central characters in countless other tv shows and movies? Here's an original thought: why not have the family members actually get along and respect one another? Even if the premise isn't original, the characters should be.

  • I liked it, it beats most of the stuff running now, to bad it didn't get a fair shot.

  • Too bad this didn't get at least half a season. It would have been interesting to see how this progressed.

  • yah, this is gay!!!!

  • The original lost in space in '65-'68 is better.

  • shit on a stick! THE ORIGINAL had wit and character, outer space was just the excuse for plot

  • wow the pilot didnt sell? shocker...

  • I didn't think the show was bad...certainly A LOT better than some of the CRAP on today!! BUT, Will should've told his Dad in the pilot that David saved his life.

  • What's not to like? Don West knocks the bottom out of Judy Robinson/Wonder Woman/Adrianne Palicki and we learn that Brad Johnson really IS an android. I mean really, by the year 2097 you'd think we would've figured out how to impart emotions to androids

  • The people bashing this need to get a life. It was a PILOT. Half the effects were missing, and most of the other complaints were about about music and sets BSG took from this failed project, as if this EARLIER project could somehow travel in time and steal from the future BSG.

In all, the pilot wasn't all that bad, and had potential. Many of the bad dialogue scenes would have been reshot before it aired.

There's no way this is worse than how BSG turned out.

    TWO WORDS:

    MITOCHONDRIAL EVE.

  • @Basara549 The effects were fine. i have no problem with them. And it's understood that this was a pilot. Production wasn't half-bad. The characters, namely the Robinsons themselves, we've seen in countless other shows and movies: the dysfunctional family...the teenage girl is horny and bored...the oldest son and father are alienated from one another...the doting mother whose smarter than anyone...the brilliant little brother whose lost in his technological world, and so on.

  • Wow, that was terrible on every level. Whiny and obnoxious characters, illogical plot twists, cardboard cut-out bad guys. Still, TooleMan, thanks for posting this! I didn't know it existed, and it's a fascinating footnote in sci-fi TV history. :)

  • The dialogue was terrible.

    The older kids were idiots.

    The action was decent.

The "NOT" to be continued was the most entertaining part.

Why can't anyone get Lost In Space right? It has such great potential.

  • looks way too much like the film, but not as good. and thats saying something. :/

  • Not too bad. I'll give 'em a "B" for effort. However, the "Robot" is ultra-lame. What is he, a head in a box? The original Robot was one of the main reasons I watched the original series.

  • They just came through a war and they send out a colonizing ship UNARMED??

  • no matter how much i watch, it remains so bad it's horrible

  • @journeyman2mage As bad as this is, I'll still take it over any of the stupid third season episodes of the original series.

  • ....y asi los Robinson nunca jamas regresaron ni se supo de ellos ( al menos en esta serie ) jojo .........the end

  • who ever made this show should have there SAG and Writers Guild card revoked. Seen more believable plots on MST3K episodes. No explanation of why the aliens want humans or why mankind had to leave earth. nothing

  • @tanguman2 The pilot states that aliens just came and started to rain fire on the major cities, we mobilized and fought back, after this event the aliens stopped their attack on earth. The aliens did not succeed with what thir plans, we did not understand their communications and could not have infiltrated them as ..we don't look quite alike. It is quite plausible that mankind would never know the reason for attack was. Also mankind isn't leaving the planet, the ships carried few colonoists.

  • I am amazed that so many people hate this simply because it isn't like the original (it wasn't meant to be)....I was just a kid when the original Lost in Space was on TV....Although I enjoyed watching it, I thought that much of it was beyound stupid...I hated Penny so much that I wanted her to die (and that stupid monkey thing too)!.....This was by far more interesting than the original.

  • well, the pilot did not sell, big surprise there, what was the head of the original robot doing in the background in part one?

  • Wow, I'm amazed that someone would bother to go on and on critizing someone's very casual statement about being 8 years old - OMG!!!!

I enjoyed the clips, still miss the original robot and the jupiter 2

  • Lost in Space is not Battlestar Galatica. It's Alice in Wonderland. It's goofy, charming, not particularly threatening. This version is cold and completely without any interesting characters. Just more ships blowing up....

  • @marcparella What show were YOU watching?....The original Lost In Space wasn't a comedy. It was an adventure series with plenty of "danger" thrown in... It had (allegedly) humorous parts to break the tension as many serious shows often do. The sets and the monsters were cheesy looking, and some of the characters were lame. I loved the original when I was a child, but I can't stomach watching it now. (it's just too stupid)

  • @6boomer9: I believe you don't read enough to appreciate the connection between LIS and Literary Absurdity. The show was adventurous but also clearly catered towards a younger audience. You won't find any value in the show if you are looking for action adventure with one-dimensional action-like characters. For someone in his 40s, I can't watch the new Star Trek. I've never liked militarism in sci fi. Smith making deals with aliens at the some time trading barbs with the Robot is priceless.

  • i guess even if i was sober, i still wouldnt understand whats going on

  • It was unsold cause it was crap, without good actors and scrip with more, it will not be good,

  • this pilot toally SUCKED!!

  • TERRIBLE!!!

  • No Smith that is why it did not sell.

  • Well when the angst between the characters we don't yet know well enough to care about gets too strong, I can always just stare at Judy. Yowza!

Seriously, the balance was off. Over-the-top drama-porn at the start and mostly through the middle, then lots of stuff blows up at the end. The SF viewers will tune out by the first segment due to SF withdrawl, and the drama-loving viewers probably won't be watching a Lost in Space remake to begin with.

And yes the aliens are gun-totin' sleestak.

  • Maureen Robinson is actutually hotter than Judy!

  • @Actionguy1 I dunno, Judy is pretty do-able. Mommy/daughter three way it is then.

  • i thought this was better than the movie and i would have loved to see this unfold. to bad the wb failed you think this is campy everwatch smallville

  • That music around ....5:50 sounds like Alan Silvestri's The Abyss....what gives?

  • This one didn't have a doctor Smith they could have put one in!!!

  • Oh sure...and the original John Robinson made such excellent command choices...

"Maureen, I'm sending our virginal girls out alone with our over-sexed pilot to have a look at that hotspring over there while you and I scout for food. Will, son, you stay here and watch the ship with the robot and this mincing pedophile..."

    Uh...yeah, right...

  • @jimtherotundartist ROFLMAO

  • its to bad they didnt make this, with no star strek serise i think lost in space would have been just as big as it was in the early 60s. but in the same respect cw would need to rember cbs did not skimp of special effects or cost when they made the orignal. one of the factors that made it cool.

  • Comment removed

  • @ssj4goko4 Didn't skimp? Are you frackin kidding me? You could actually see the stings on the J2 sometimes. Lost In Space was one of the cheesiest sci fi shows EVER. The concept was great...but c'mon...their aliens in the original were bloody awful! I remember one episode where they were nothing more tha guys in bowler hats with pantyhose pulled over their heads....I lmao! THIS is SO much better!

  • that was great, I really loved it. They took a pass on a money maker Too bad!.

  • I believe these are the same aliens from SIGNS. Swing away, Will Robinson! Swing away!

  • The original (well, a copy of the original.) robot was in this movie. The head and the claw are in the background on a table when Will is in his lab building the new one. (Look towards the beginning of the movie.)

It was my robot's head and claw that was shipped to Vancouver to be in this pilot. I think if they got enough fan mail they might continue with this project. Perhaps they might even consider bringing back the old robot. (My robot is between bookings.)

  • Excellent!! WOW!! I really like it. A totally new story line vs the original series. Congrats!! and too bad it didn't sell.

  • Who are these clowns? These are not the Robinsons.

  • The Robot could be better, but, we just see him not finish it.

In an scale of 10, I give to this pilot an 8.5

  • I think that the pilot is good. It´s not the best pilot ever, but it´s good, have emotionals moments, have action, the mothership is pretty good, the bridge is well desing, the Jupiter 2 it´s the best.

It´s a pity that this series was not buy. I think that after each chapter the results could be better. The family Robinson it´s good too, the father it´s a tender badass, the mother is beautiful, the youngs Robinsons are good, spacialy the girl. Will Robinson it´s cute and the Robot is ok.

  • Sleestacks....... I see sleestacks. It's really sad to see the whole production downgrade itself with rubber suited "aliens" chimp-walkiing and using guns made for five fingered humans.

  • aww sucks that it didnt sell~ i really would have enjoyed watching it~

  • Really, if all you haters would get past yourselves this had potential. I love the original series as a child, and I think this incarnation could have surpassed it. Too bad the powers that be pass up on this. Compared to alot of shows that have made it to series, this one could been huge with little effort. Loved the prospect of the eldest son angle.

  • I wish they used the silver with red trim jumpsuits like the original LIS, not this dull gray ones. Though the guy playing John Robinson on this is better than the movie. The creatures looks too much like the ones from the classic First Men in the Moon movie.

  • I really liked this. Could have made a decent show.

  • Even with the bay windows the original Jupiter 2 is still the coolest space ship. The engine sound effects were great. The descent to the planet on the episode Ghost Planet is still realistic in it's effect. It is too bad that ALL of Irwin Allen's shows got real silly as they went along. But as a kid it was great. I even built a Lego Robot B-9 as a kid. If I had the money I would get one of those life size reproductions in a second. Lost In Space brings back my youth.

  • I could totally see them making this series today but with better actors and a better budget..but you gotta have the original characters no new older brother stuff

  • Cheap - had the players been more convincing i am sure it would have sold - CW probably knew it would take lots o money to produce a decent show and passed - maybe someone will be inspired in a few years and re-imagine Lost in Space - with our appetite for mobile technologies and the younger generation... too many scenarios to not use for story line

  • whoa wait, whos David ? Was that supposed to be another son?

  • The original Lost In Space started out as fantastic science fiction for it's day. Like all Irwin Allen shows its scripts went down hill. But the first half of the first season were excellent. This series lacks something that the original always had, character. This new rendition has no humor and the characters are wooden. Too bad. Give me Robot B9, Will, and Dr. Smith, and the music of John Williams anyday to this stuff. Even at it's worst the original was better than this.

  • @49bobbyk Agreed 100 %!

  • It's ok . I like it , I think if some money had been spent on it over a few series it would have been good , better than some shows on tv today

  • It's ok I like it , if some money was spent on it over a few series i think it would have turned out ok , better than some shows today

  • Given that the evil monsters are killing everyone else; why would they take the child? That made no sense.

  • Geez louise. Can this get any worse? Personally I'd leave whiny David behind. What a farce. (UPDATE: Looks like they left David behind after all. Cool. Serves him right. Stupid twerp.)

  • Wow, I thought the movie was bad, but this thing... thank the gods it never made it to air. And what's with the stolen BSG music? In other words, what a piece of 5#1t!! But thank you for posting it! :)

  • @jfrancal2007 this was released before b.s.g.. the props from this failed pilot were sold to b.s.g. as well as the Bear MCcready opening soundtrack .

  • Quite amateurish here&there esp. the alien's are as crappy as it get, however ,with some polishing especially on the sound, and some rigourous re-splicing to get the pacing up, it could have worked.

    I would have watched.

  • Over all, I didn't think this pilot sold well because they steered away from the original concept. Plus, they added the David Robinson character needlessly just to invoke a pathos into the pilot. But, it's an interesting take, that's for sure...

  • Borrrrrring. I guess when the producers have people with no acting ability and no personality and a boring plot they try to make up for it by changing the camera frame every second. I guess that's supposed to create suspense. Perhaps though the actors could have pulled it off and it was just the producers who decided to get in the way by being "cutting edge" and "slick".Either way, it doesn't work and the cameras jumping to a different scene every second is very disturbing.

  • If they would have started with the family on the transport and then the attack it may have sold, but the kissy face stuff needs to go...

  • The problem with the remakes is that they loose what made the original a cult classic. It is oftten hard to get a new generation into a show. The old one is going to prefer what they saw when they were younger. They will have a hard time getting into the new one. The new generation just has to many sci fi choices now. It's not like it used to be where there were only a few to choose from. That being said, this looks like it could have been pretty good.

  • BUMMER! I'm sorry I saw this! It looked pretty decent to me. Better then most of the crap on TV lately. Personally I think they made a big mistake. They should have picked it up and at least have given it a shot. The new Knight Rider was better? HA! Hollywood has officially run out of ideas!

  • This would have been better if they had not tried to make it a remake of LiS. With a few more changes, it would have been different enough in its story to have stood on its own. Shame. As one other person said, the production values were very good.

  • The suits at FOX turned this down cuz they were more interested in shit like "American Idol".

No wonder our country's in such a mess. :(

  • For once a proper ending to a show - Major West just told you that you've got nothing, Colonel Ham, and you are in a pod designed to land once, not a true space vessel. At best they land on Gilligan's Planet and hope for rescue, at worst they are dead in a short amount of time. They aren't going home on their own, and the mother ship BLEW UP with Chuck Cunningham, er, David Robinson on it. (overall, bleh - someone gets far enough to make a pilot and they butcher the concept. glad it failed)

  • That would have been a smokin series!!!

  • I was a loyal viewer of the original from '65 on; that was when the very popular Batman was on the same time at ABC. I could not be a loyal viewer to this new version.

  • Is too bad that they didn't go through with this Lost in Space...It show a whole lot more potential that the 1998 Movie Flop.

  • This is good but too different. I agree with tonicair in that there is not enough reference to the old series in the basic things that made Lost in Space a great t.v. show. why can't somebody build a Jupiter 2 updated that looks like the old one? Why are their all these family problems? Where's the chariot and space pod? Crash landing? Hollywood just can't get it right. Even Star Trek had to make changes in its 2nd movie. GET IT RIGHT PEOPLE!

  • This pilot has cast, acting, writing, and production values as good as or better than the original series. The real problem is that watching it can't make us 8 year old boys again...

  • @frankftw Oh yeah? ;-)

  • No the original was way better, Will, the robot, Dr Smith was the true magic and chemistry of the show! Take them out of the original and you have basically this (junk)!

  • @frankftw WHAT. MY GRANDFATHER WAS IN HIS 50'S AND WATCHED THE ORIGINAL WITH ME AS A KID AS WELL AS STAR TREK. THIS PILOT IS CRAP!!

THEY HAVE NO PRESENCE. IT SEEMS LIKE A FAKE FAMILY. THEY ARE NOT AS ATTRACTIVE AS THE ORIGINAL CAST. ACTING IS BAD!

  • @frankftw That is a rather presumptive statement you make in assuming that any fan of the series would want to be 8 years old again.

I'm quite happy with my age thank you very much. Human longevity does have its place my friend.

I still enjoy the original Lost In Space and look forward to any updated remakes that may follow.

Go back and be 8 years old again?,... I don't think so.

It's better to continue growing and appreciate the great times we have lived.

Why waste time wishing the impossible?

  • @frankftw @frankftw that's not the problem. The problem is that the heart of the story line is about a Real family facing adversity and death; not some modern Frankenstein-family made up of anyone willing to molest each other. That's why this didn't make it. Has anyone else noticed that the ‘Incredibles’ hasn't seen a sequel yet? It had the same the 'problem': Holly-weird has us by the balls. BTW, if you’ve 'lost' that 8 year old boy in your heart, perhaps you're 'Lost in Space' too;))

  • @frankftw Are you kidding me? Soap commercials fare better...it's utter crap...

  • As a fan of the old LIS who seen every episode first run, I say, a shame a little more thought didn't go into this effort, cause it could have been bought, and still on the air,if they had.Still better then the misserble 1998 effort.

  • All the actors in the original had a certain pedigree as for example Guy Williams was in the Disney version of Zorro and Billy Mumy was in a host of tv shows including The Twilight Zone. What I am seeing here are actors but with no background.

  • So THAT'S why they created an extra Robinson family member...

  • @PromusKaa i guess Bear McCready. the pilots composer steals from the best. lol

  • listen very carefully at the music here. its jerry goldsmiths score from outland (1981). As for this pilot, its nothing amazing, but id have given it a chance. it looked ok. the show and the movie were deff better though.

  • @retrojocky. I guess this is why Bear McCready. the pilots composer, steals from the best .lol

  • Sappy dialog, slimy aliens, explosions, ray guns, a black hole...

    Whats not to love!

Remember what they had to work with. Add some sexual tension and unresolved father/son conflicts, I think that it could have been worked for some good plot/character development. Just my opinion. Thanks for posting this on the 'tube

  • Lost in SUCK!

  • they should have made this show

  • really REALLY G A Y!!! :O(

  • Dreadful dear boy simply dreadful ................."Never fear.. Smith is here"

  • As a remake of Lost in Space, it makes me want to hurt people. If I pretend it's about a family that just happens to be named Robinson who just happens to get lost in space it's not too bad.

  • When does the series start. Great grafics.

  • DUMB ASSES!! I like the new take on it! I think it would have been a great series!

  • The first good quality thing to ever come out of LOST IN SPACE since 1967. Apart from Brad Johnson and Mike Erwin being casted and the irritating slo-mos, it's perfect.

  • From around 5:02 on, is that music from The Abyss??

  • Didn't think it could get worse and then they steal a scene straight out of the film Signs where the alien is threatening the little boy. Pure garbage!

  • Pianful to watch.

  • The space aliens look like the moon creatures from a movie made back in the early 1960's FIRST MEN IN THE MOON.

  • Where did these writers get their degrees from? ....They did have degrees right?

  • Where did the so-called 'writers' from the original series get THEIR degrees from?

  • I wonder if they would have had the "chariot" in teh show! lol.

  • When it siad, "*Not* to be continued" all I could think was, "YEAH!"

Honestly, thought that was an 80s pilot.

  • The robot looks like Doctor-Droid from The Empire Strikes Back.

  • The point that alot of producers miss is simple. The "Brady Bunch" movie for example worked because die hard fans of the show loved the fact that the house and charecters looked the same. We're not really looking for "look -a-likes from the original show, but how about at least a ship that looks more like the Jupiter 2 and a robot like the original. That is why the movie and this series...failed. Fans want to see a new version, but the same, mabe only slightly updated, sets.
