aah the 80s... when hair was big and music videos made no sense at all.
I went to see this lot live recently and didn't know what to expect. Not only have they still got it but they absolutely blew my socks off!
Nick is my home town's greatest export and I think this cheeky chappys vocals are better than Limahls.
I must also mention I find his performance in this particular video vaguely reminiscent of Tim Curry's 'Frank N Furter' in 'Rocky Horror' (in a good way).
I prefer Nick's vocal for this powerful number, if Limahl sung this, it wouldn't be so powerful, don't you think so? Of course, Limahl's vocal is perfect for the numbers sweet and mellow like "Too Shy".
The vocal are NOT awful! I just saw this played LIVE.. yesterday! With Nick and Limahl sharing the lead vocals and it was brilliant! Managed to meet all 5 of the guys, and they were all lovely. I am now the proud owner of a pair of jeans signed by all 5 members of Kajagoogoo!

I was 6, but remember the song from the radio. in the 90s I was looking for the song for a long time, till I found it. In my opinion best song of Kajagoogoo, maybe next to Too Shy
I remember him on a Saturday morning program at the time and there was a tyical band related competition to win something or other, and the question was how many platts(nicks hair)did nick have?;at the time i would of said "TOO MANY!"...anyway he looks a lot better in this vid without them, and hence again this is how i would choose to remember the band image wise...
Definatly my best kajagoogoo track!,the tracks improved a lot i noticed when limahl left..;Nick being a musician who sings and plays as well, made the singing fit around his funky bass playing a lot better, freer, tighter and together than when it was him and lamahl doing two separate jobs...sometimes 1 man is worth more than 2!..I also liked his slightly BeeGees-esque voice...This is how i want to remember the band...
i dont get the video but the song is great! problem is i cant find any kajagoogoo cd's on sale any where? any one have any places where u can get kajagoogoo cd's in vic, australia?
I have liked this from first time it aired, it looked like they enjoyed making the video, don't know what in fighting there was, but it is still Great and I like it.
super j'ai enfin retrouvé la chanson qui me rappelle le début de mon adolescence, super chanson comme on en fait plus maintenant ainsi que le vidéoclip.
You know what astaroth1977?: i'm really sick of your sh*t. You seriously need to CALM DOWN a bit. You put in EVERY Kajagoogoo video that limahl was a big mistake and bla bla bla. Maybe it was, maybe not. but you know what? This happened like more than 20 YEARS AGO. I mean, can't you just leave it behind?!. Besides, everyone has a right to an opinion.
You have right man, but i'm only answering to people who insult Nick Beggs in his videos... As you told me, everyone have his opinion, so stop insult Kajagoogoo without Limahl.Check the comments if you don't believe me... I'm only answering and not starting it. That's it.
And also on my comment i'm not insulting Limahl, i'm just saying my opinion about him inside Kajagoogoo... I like him, but not in the Kajagoogoo band... Cause i prefer what they had became in the second album. Anyway thank you for tell me your opinion.
I'm not on limahl side nor nick and seriously couldn't care less who wrote the song. but it seems like when it comes to this band you're like crazy telling everybody to shut up and that you know them and bla bla. WHO CARES?. you know them? good for you... like if you were friends with them or something. and you shoudln't really give atention at those who insult him, really.
To 1984AP's question, this song came out in 1984 and was on the album called "Islands" which was produced by Colin Thurston, who produced the first two Duran Duran albums, which also accounts for a similar sound.
First time I ever heard this song. Very cool. I love the backgound - "hey hey hey...". Great synthesizers! Kinda reminds me of a similar Duran Duran song from the `83 album. What year did this song/video come out?
I saw Nick Beggs when he was playing bass as part of the house band for Belinda Carlisle, when she played @ Newcastle Arena as part of the Here & Now Tour a couple years ago. He was attired in a kilt. Reports of females in the front row fainting were exaggerated, but a few of the guys who saw Toyah in a micro mini-skirt spontaneously combusted! (:-))
They really don't need Limahl, they are great without him.)Limahl was just a big mistake. He have good style singing but that style have nothing to do with the Kajagoogoo sound.Limahl made a record singing their masterpieces like "turnYourBackOnMe etc" The result? Embarrassing. If since the beginning too shy had been sung from Nick Beggs, all would have loved it in the same way...This is just my personal opinion.
Let me explain you one thing: they have call Limahl and ask him to became part of the band only because Nick Beggs don't wanted to sing at the beginning...This is the only reason. The song too shy for example was written by Nick Beggs and Limahl was just a co-writer, the entire sound of their songs are always only written by the band wich is composed by:Nick,Steve,Stuart and Jez...
So that's no reason to think that without Limahl they cannot live. They are the musicians not him. They create the music not him. Limahl was lucky to find them and not them to find him! As i told you:If since the beginning too shy had been sung from Nick Beggs, all would have loved it in the same way...
That's what all real Kajafans think. you are right man. They really don't need Limahl, they are great without him.)Limahl was just a big mistake. He have good style singing but that style have nothing to do with the Kajagoogoo sound.Limahl made a record singing their masterpieces like "turnYourBackOnMe etc" The result? Embarrassing. If since the beginning too shy had been sung from Nick Beggs, all would have loved it in the same way...This is just my personal opinion.
you all slag Limahl off, but the lad was noble enough to review this song as "single of the fortnight" in Smash Hits, even though he had been ruthlessly sacked by the group...
hahahah yes the "genuis" of limahl. CHRIS (limahl) HAMILL was a pretty boy, not a genius. Changing your name to one word does not make you more than you were. The band was great because of Nick Begg's artistry. The lyrics on the few songs Limahl wrote were ridiculous. He was superficial and unnecessary. He couldn't even dance!!! Embarrasing white fellow.
Everyone knows that Kajagoogoo was only hugely successful because of the concerted genius of Limahl and the rest of the band. Limahl had one talent: he could sing! He had charisma, stage presence, and a persona, in his voice, very distinctive, defined, refined, unique, and unforgettable. Despite the clash of egos between band members, their first line-up just worked! Since the departure of Limahl, the band faded into obscurity. They were good, but no longer fantastic, as they first were.
I actually owned the Kaja album Extra Play on vinyl in 1984. It is long since lost but I still have a cassette recording of it. I thought this was a great song and it still holds up today. I had never seen the video before so thanks for uploading it.
I remember being 13 thinking "this is edgy". Now I can hear those synths in the chorus were cheesier than a Really Cheesy Wotsit. Great melody though. Love the way he overdramatically sings "mouth of the Lie-on" in the first verse.
I still truly like the album Islands. Musically imo they could have challenged Level 42. But it was not the first time pop band turning more serious gets ridiculed.
Beggs was the core to this band - forget Limahl. Watch him giving that Chapman Stick a workout - what a guru...amazing that they had a big budget for a video when in fact the band was going down the pan at this point.
Almost a good song, missed it by THAT much. Kaja without Limahl is like trying to bake a chocolate cake without the chocolate. Culture Club's "Victims" was next in the line-up, I'd rather see that one!
OMG thank you SO much. Im a diehard kaja fan but have never seen this vid!Love this song. PS to Kincat- Limahl was fired/kicked out before this song. I personlaly love Nick beggs voice- i wish he would sing more still.Love limahl tho too!
WOW! I never thought I would see this video ever in my lifetime! The video is better than I ever imagined how it could be. Fantastic song - fantastic video!
probably my favorite Kajagoogoo song. Excellent tune.

I had the opportunity to see Nick Beggs doing solo gig with the Chapman Stick. Very enjoyable.
