  • Thank God for Schubert. A great influence for musicians everywhere throughout the ages. With each listen you'll never fail to find something new and wonderful in the subtle motifs behind the main themes.

  • This recording skips. WHY?!

  • I Loved Playing This Piece, My Favorite Part Is Around 5:00 & On To Section "D"

  • @Gunindu yes section D is amazing :) i played it... favorite part too :P this symphony is very beautiful !! i agree with what u said :P

  • im going to play this this saturday.i absolutely love this piece :)

  • Marvelous recording! Bruno Walter is probably my favorite conductor of all time. There was an authority, a "rightness" about his interpretations that is uniquely satisfying. Thanks for posting - a pleasure to hear despite the sound limitations.

  • 02:44 is one of the best parts.

  • holy shit, no dislikes :)

  • I never tire of how Walther captures the hopefulness of impending doom in this; and conversely the doom in impending hopefulness... and yet the sublime joy pervading it all.

  • This was the soundtrack for the 1925 phantom of the opera with lon chaney

  • @Phantomgoast I think you will find that in 1925 there was no such thing as a sound track for films, the first soundtrack was not introduced until 1927 for Warner Bros. "The Jazz Singer"

  • Was it really unfinished?

  • @Bassoonater Its called unfinished because it contains two movements rather than the usual four

  • That's it! Certified Intergalactic! I can hear the beginning.

  • @castiel5

He didn't just die, he just didn't finish it:)

  • @kyra567333 well it's not like dying helped

  • @kyra567333 Yes. This is right!

  • good recording... when record was brand new... But thanx for the upload!

  • @herblich1

  • This is very good, and well played. By the way, do you know there are major skips in the recording at 5:37 and 5:49? I prefer a slower and more mysterious opening, providing for a greater contrast at the entry of the main tune; for me, Eugen Jochum's recording with the Boston Symphony is a s close top perfect as I've heard in this great work. Furtwangler's live recording and Reiner's Chicago Symphony recording are also wonderful.

  • Magnifique je connaissais déjà cet enregistrement. Merci bien

  • Schubert must have heard someone say, "Okay, pass your papers, finished or not finished."

  • @Dogaradodia Nah, he just died ;)

  • I love Schubert's unfinished symphony. When i found out that I was going to play this I was so freakin excited. The first movement is my favorite. My favorite part of this wonderful piece is at 2:10

  • @TheCrazychick07

I absolutely agree with you. I am playing this right now, and it is so much fun to play. Schubert's unfinished symphony is my favorite =)

  • Why the grandeur beginning is missing? I have only founded in one video here in youtube

  • what happens at 5:37 and 5:49 :s

  • @JaniceMaya it´s an old record, so you can´t think that it would play in so good quality as the song now... :)

  • I don't know what is causing it, but in several places the sound skips. It really detracts from the quality of this post.

  • We're just learning this in my high school orchestra and it is BEAST!

  • One of my favorite pieces! Learned to play it in high school orchestra. Wish I'd kept up with my cello playing. I didnt play well, but I loved it! This piece is one of the reasons why. :-D

  • I want to play this piece so badly. I love Schuberts Unfinished Symphony. Thanks 4 uploading

  • @cutencrazy07 I played it in high school- it's such a fun and exciting piece to play! Hopefully you'll get the chance!

  • I love Schubert's Unfinished Symphony. The first movement is one my favorites. My favorite part of this fantasic piece is at 2:09
