Thank God for Schubert. A great influence for musicians everywhere throughout the ages. With each listen you'll never fail to find something new and wonderful in the subtle motifs behind the main themes.
Marvelous recording! Bruno Walter is probably my favorite conductor of all time. There was an authority, a "rightness" about his interpretations that is uniquely satisfying. Thanks for posting - a pleasure to hear despite the sound limitations.
I never tire of how Walther captures the hopefulness of impending doom in this; and conversely the doom in impending hopefulness... and yet the sublime joy pervading it all.
@Phantomgoast I think you will find that in 1925 there was no such thing as a sound track for films, the first soundtrack was not introduced until 1927 for Warner Bros. "The Jazz Singer"
This is very good, and well played. By the way, do you know there are major skips in the recording at 5:37 and 5:49? I prefer a slower and more mysterious opening, providing for a greater contrast at the entry of the main tune; for me, Eugen Jochum's recording with the Boston Symphony is a s close top perfect as I've heard in this great work. Furtwangler's live recording and Reiner's Chicago Symphony recording are also wonderful.
I love Schubert's unfinished symphony. When i found out that I was going to play this I was so freakin excited. The first movement is my favorite. My favorite part of this wonderful piece is at 2:10
One of my favorite pieces! Learned to play it in high school orchestra. Wish I'd kept up with my cello playing. I didnt play well, but I loved it! This piece is one of the reasons why. :-D

Was it really unfinished?
Bassoonater 1 year ago
@Bassoonater Its called unfinished because it contains two movements rather than the usual four

Merci pour votre excellente vidéo musicale ! l'enregistrement de 1958 avec Bruno Walter, reste pour moi le meilleur !
unir en guise de vidéo les portraits de Schubert et B.Walter est d'une grande force pour cette symphonie ... Compliments

@JaniceMaya it´s an old record, so you can´t think that it would play in so good quality as the song now... :)

I don't know what is causing it, but in several places the sound skips. It really detracts from the quality of this post.
