Coppola seems like a decent, humble guy. Okay, apparently he cheated on his wife, but even that he was discrete about and for all we know she did too. No offense, Mrs. Coppola. Just his demeanor and his attitude makes him seem like a nice guy. Talking about his daughter confirmed that too. "She IS a nice kid."
also, if you watch the movie a few times while paying attention, you'll notice the subtext of power struggles within the Corleone ranks. Connie, for example, seems to be pulling the strings behind the scenes, and there is a subtle implication that Vincent may be standing in for her. There are some ambigious exchanges between all three.
as for The Cottom Club, it was a dud, but a beautiful looking one.
Godfather 3 is a good movie, but undeniably flawed. it looks great, of course, like most Coppola films, but casting his daughter was a mistake. If the studio hadn't of pressure him to turn the film in before the oscars, he could have delayed production and cast the right person. Both Winona Ryder and Bridget Fonda turned down the role.
anyway, the idea of michael being a weak and frail and regretful man is interesting, and Pacino plays him well.
Godfather 3 is underated. It has some great lines, great acting by Pacino and Keaton. It's great how Michael started out wanting to protect his family and how by his own actions his daughter is killed. Sofia Coppola is horrible in it, but you can sorta block her out.
One of the best interviews in a long time. Weird because there was nothing outrageous about it, but it was so relaxed. I could have listened to this for aaggeeess.
Great interview.... went through the whole thing!

Just revisited this and it's as good as I remember-funny, in depth..
But would it kill Francis to say one good thing about Howard? Or even a thank you?

What makes this interview great is the time they dedicated to it, you just don't get that with TV...

I agree! You don't get interviews this long very often.

I've gotta say, as someone whose never really been a fan of howards that was a fantastic interview

Howard's the best at interviewing. All the way from angry, club-footed midgets to Oscar- winning directors.

Woulda been cool to see Artie and Coppola speaking Italian to each other, like the scene where Solozzo and Michael are in the restaraunt.

Jack and Gardens of Stone were his only shit films. Other than that, all worth watching.

Even "Godfather III?"

Okay Godfather 3 was a flaming turd. Cotton Club was weak too but at least it was artfully done.
