I think it was focused more on Kaya because the current series is all about her and she was, unfairly in my opinion, considered more important. Hannah's part of the group that made Skins so successful in the first place. As for Cook, the character you're referring to, his dress sense was little more than a pair of trousers and a polo shirt - is that stupid?

He isn't really the centre, he's part of a triangle; Effy's the main one.

He's a self destructive, entertaining character to watch.

I think they should have included Hannah much more, as it's the old cast that got the award. I know Effy was a part of it then, but she had a much less major role than she does now. I agree about Cook, but there were still some really interesting characters in series 3.

Cook dressed like a late-1960's rockstar (before my time but I aware of the image). It didnt work - he just looked like a spanner. As for his position as leader, and very influential over the gang, in ep.1 he irritated everyone at college, then in ep.2 he turns up at his uncle's pub and the ENTIRE cast (most he only met in ep.1)are following him in and he then took charge of things. He's the man - they followed and listened. Very unrealistic. He was obnoxious and arrogant. He ruined the series.

I know, I agree he was annoying but I think the boy portraying him was a brilliant actor with this character.

But if we're going to start questioning the realism of Skins I think we'd better leave right now haha, it's all self-indulgent drama really, and things don't tend to happen in a way it would in real life, things happen incidentally to make everything cooler/more dramatic and subsequently, far too make-believe. That's just my take on it anyway :D

They made the first two series' without being self-indulgent, and the other things you refer to as being inevitable if a TV drama is being made. Also, the guy who played Cook had a Derbyshire accent, but was meant to be from Bristol (?). The series 1 and 2 cast grew up together so their relationships had evolved to where they were. They often made reference to things from years ago in their discussions. With a couple of exceptions most of the series 3 lot met in ep.1.. I dont think it worked.

I think even the first series were surreal though: in Series 2 (i think), Cassie's glimpses of the word 'eat!' were due to a psychotic state of mind she was in 'cause she was clearly very troubled, but I think the way Sid kept seeing visions of her was a bit too far. And how Cassie ran away and ended up in New York; she didn't seem the type to keep track of passports, savings etc in order to fly there.

Effy, the twins, Naomi etc had London accents in Bristol, didn't they? I'm not sure.

I think there's a fine line between a really good show and being realistic. Some of series 2 did cross the line a bit in my view, Didn't quite get why Michelle, a clever and kind character is series 1, left Tony so quickly and started fucking Sid, and Cassie dissapering from Bristol and reappering in America was strange too, Series 3 has been a bit more modern, gritty and real i think

michelle had already left tony in the first series. tony got hit by the bus just when he was trying to get her back so its not really like that and i wouldnt say it was unrealistic. they never got back together, she was waiting around for him to remember so that they could get back together.

cassie disappearing to new york was fucking weird though im not entirely sure what was going through her head either but i suppose thats the point.

lol at richardfenech, i thought that about cook too, the actor is from derby which is a town next to me (burton on trent) and we sound the same, yet he's in bristol..

also felt that reporter was extremely ignorant pointing that mic at kaya only, also kaya spoke on accepting the award and left hannah probably feeling a bit of a lemon, shame.

By the end though you could argue that Cooks's behaviour annoys everyone in the group. By episode 5 Freddie is sick of him, by episode 7 JJ gets fed up with him, by episode 8 he's not even invited to go camping with the gang because they're all so fed up with him. So by the end of the series he has to change his attiutde a bit.
