Considering most guitar instructionals on YouTube, you are very accomplished as a guitarist, as well as an idealist in terms of how concisely and eloquently you convey your points throughout your lessons. I personally have more trouble with good alternate picking than sweeping, but this was an intriguing and informative approach to remedying an age-old problem among guitarists. Keep posting! :D
i personally think this is a bit over the top, i mean i can sweep pick every major, minor, diminished and augmented inversion perfectly clean, yet i dont use this muting technique at all... strange
Oh man! You are an amazing teacher,I would say that you are teaching yoga of a guitar in a sense that you are developing total awareness of an instrument in your students.Great job!!!
I can't find that certain "sweet spot" no matter what I try.. Any advice?
I can "air guitar" perfectly fine.. My picking hand feels totally comfortable shaped in a picking position, but when I go to get my pick, it feels so awkward no matter how I hold it.
dude you seriously are Amazing dude you should be well known like steve vai,joe satriani, john petrucci, yngwie etc etc are you planing on doing any dvds?
@nathan6t9r I do plan to release DVDs. My problem is having overhead to produce them. I've already got a lot of DVD video edited (unmastered), I just need financial backing to press them professionally. It's coming as soon as cash allows though.
your vid helped alot but the big problem is that i hold a pic like a i do with a pencil or pen...appaerently it makes it harder to play i dont no or care because if i play it in time and note for note thats all that matters..but back to what i was saying your vids rly help ALOT!!! THANKS ;)
" Lets say your a football player. Your a Full Back and the Quarter Back tosses you the ball. Now Your doing Fine, in terms of speed and momentum, Until....Pow. Pow. Pow. Pow......You run into four defensive players Rape and Cream You xD
Hey man! I'm very new to guitar - I'm an experienced drummer, but literally have never picked up a guitar in my life and have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing. It's a bit embarassing haha...I'm not looking to be Joe Satriani or anything, just to jama bit and chug some sick riffs to myself haha - just wanted to say thankyou for what you're doing! Your videos are so helpful and uncondescending, please keep making them! Later dude! \m/
ive tried to sweep pick in the past. I lost a lot of interest in it. sweeping is the one thing that came hard for me on guitar and i dont think im willing to put much time into it because it makes me lose interest in practicing.
@aces519 I honestly would have rathered an SL2H than an SL1. Actually, I would have rathered a Soloist with a non-floating trem altogether. It's my main riffer. I'd leave the lead work to another guitar with a floating trem.
Well actually my sl2h would be perfect for you then since it has a rather funny flaw.
The trem route was not cut deep enough, So right now I have the floyd so deep that its sitting on the wood in the route. So its essentially a hardtail, but the action is so low and damn good! the floyd doesnt budge at all, and the tone and sustain improved alot too.
@aces519 I lock mine down from time to time as well, but even then, there's still just a tad of detuning that happens when palm muting heavily by a few cents or so. Actually, I think I might go with another style that Jackson offers. There's this 'thing' about these guitars I've tried that just doesn't feel right....
I think it's time to make a video about that actually.
I must say I was starting to worry a little when you were talking about American Football and stuff, but it worked! It's all good you made a good point! Great video once again! Keep it up and I look forward to seeing more!
@hellman03 I find the opposite actually. I guess it's different for every guitarist. The only solution here to me is practice downstrokes more. Actually, just skip downstrokes altogether for an entire week. After that you'll be grand.
Great lesson :) once I get a new guitar I will try out your palm muting technque on my sweeps. I must ask, does the V-pick make your playing/tone noticeably better?
@MinginEngine *laughs*... I personally thought the tone was terrible after listening when editing. When in front of the backdrop, it's an old line 6. In the studio part where I show closeups, it's the dual rec. the dual rec sounds better I think.
@lobyte Yeah, they look great. I wouldn't mind a 'flat' version that doesn't have the clear coating. If you hit the guitar from the right angle and light isn't shining on it in a particular way, it looks great.
I actually naturally adjust my pick position for solos, i can't sweep pick, mostly cause i'm not too bothered to learn but also cause i wanna let it come to me. As you say in this video, i have my natural position and then solo position with less pick sticking out. is this okay?
@GuitarGnosis thanks i will and hopefully i'll get the hang of sweep picking eventually but since i'm not a massive shred fan as i said before not to bothered.

Yeah just go with one of the hardtail models i guess.
But I play with a soft touch so the floyd doesnt detune so much for me for the heavy chugs. Cant wait to see what Jackson you get next man!

And do you find them as silent as the Jazz III's? (meaning do they have less chirp noise?) BTW amazing lesson !!(once again)
