  • @chipsturs hey man, its me, the video store guy again lol. i was in oklahoma city yesterday and bought a sega saturn in the box with 2 controllers and about 8 games for 30 dollars! i couldnt believe it! i couldnt be happier with it. i have been playing it non-stop.

  • @88skullkid wow that is a superb find! and i would be very happy with that too! congratulations. what games did you get with it ?

  • you've got a lot of consoles and games, now that sir is called passion

  • @bentep0511 I am hoping for a room this year where I can finally display them, rather than having them all stored in the lot :)

  • @Chipsturs lot = loft

  • Call me crazy but I gave my favorite console of all time to my brother-in-law as a Christmas gift. He had to sell all his game systems to make his rent, so I gave him my Saturn because I knew just how much he loved it. His face lit up all crazt and I guess it was worth it even though, I'll miss my Saturn a lot at least my brother-in-law has something to play that he loves as well.

  • @fireheartgames Well that was a really cool christmas gift and very thoughtful! and i hope he invites you over sometime to have an evening or two with him on it.

  • @Chipsturs Thank you for the nice comment. We've actually have been trying to set up a time, but so far we have been both busy with work. Thanks for all the great reviews you show us and you do a great job on them.

  • @fireheartgames thank you and your very welcome :) i love doing this.

  • all this editing crap and you can't even buy a microphone? come on now

  • @devastaticon lol well it's on the agenda. currently just using the camcorder as a microphone and then placing the file in the microphone track. i'll get there one day.

  • I have a model 2 saturn and love it! Consoles that dont do well make amazing collection pieces for sure!

  • A great review, very professional and of a high grade and quality. My only suggestion would be to add just a bit more detail, it seemed as through you were rushing through certain areas. With that aside, a near perfect review. Keep up the great work.

  • What is there in the video is good but your review is just too short. Footage of games and more detail on them would be preferable. I still clicked like on it, since your effort was a good one.

  • I've started collected Sega Saturn games but still have to get my hands on the console lol. Great review :-)

  • Wasn't the Saturn 64-Bit?

  • @KeroroChief153 No the Saturn is only 32-bit, but maybe your thinking of the Atari Jaguar which was advertised as a 64-bit console.

  • I purchased a White Japanese sega saturn from ebay and I have around 15 japanese exclusives for it which are amazing, for example, Grandia, Marvel Superheroes vs Street Fighter, Metal Slug. Anyone who is thinking of buying a saturn, get a japanese one, or at least an action replay to enable you to play imported games! Its worth it! :D

  • Stupid youtube subscriptions page never shows me your vids anymore! Another excellent review as always dude! I can't believe I almost missed this one!

  • @RetroRoadshow lol tell me about it mate, it's always the same for me too. But i'm glad you got to catch up :) and thanks for the cool comment!

  • Oh man...i had the Saturn back in the days with 25 games or so...soooo many great games, the whole panzer dragoon series, sega rally,nights,etc...great memories, and one of my favourite systems of all time....SEGA!!

  • great review, really enjoyed it

  • Great review! Is it me or, aside of his accent, does this guy sound like Ed Grimley from the old SNL skits.

  • Like the style of your videos. What software are you using to edit videos?

  • @keearun Hey thanks :) i'm currently using Corel Videostudio 12 or X2 but there is a newer addition out now.

  • great 100th video, always good to see positive saturn reviews :)

  • Awsome video BTW :)

  • @Hassanova01 Thank you for the great comments :)

  • Poor Sega. The Megadrive was ace, as was the Dreamcast. But the Saturn had all the charm of a festering turd in a bowl. :(

  • Subbed:) Good stuff man!

  • @Jimmyofthepages Thanks alot and thank you for the support :)

  • Still using a CRT TV in 2011? hmmm

  • @AzumiRM Yeah trust me i want a new one, we are current trying to move at the moment, and we need to save the pennies :)

  • Ladies and Gentlemen... Panzer Dragoon Saga... That is all.

  • how r u doing the backround is dat a green screen

  • @g00171227 Yeah there is, just a green screen behind me on the sofa :)

  • Nice review, technically its very proffessional , but i think you should add some humor to your text , don't take it too seriously man !

  • @alanw3000 Thanks very much :) and i've taken your comment on board!!! i always appreciate great feedback :)

  • @Chipsturs I agree that this is an excelent review, and definitely the best Sega Saturn review currently on Youtube. However, I disagree with the suggestion for more humor on your reviews. Most of the time, it feels forced, and even when done right it makes the review less professional. There are already too many "comedians" on YouTube, and I find you are a refreshing change, so please, don't change that! :)

  • Nice detailed review James. The Saturn is an underrated system in my opinion. I like the artwork on the box and games in the UK better than in NA.

  • @Gamester81 Cheers John :) i really enjoyed digging the console out and spending some more time on it. It's one system i'd like to keep hooked up to the tv all the time.

  • I miss my SEGA Saturn (crying)

It had the best fighting games, import and domestic, and a little known gem known as DragonForce

    (more crying)

  • I remember the hours I spent on my Sega Saturn Good times

  • the top looks like a black game cube

  • Awesome video!

  • @MyFaveVideoGameOSTs Hey thanks :)

  • Excellent review as always James! I still enjoy picking up new gems for this system from time to time. It started out as my favorite of that generation (Daytona USA & Virtua Fighter blew me away) but I eventually strayed to the PSX like most.

Once the Sony library took off and the dual shock controllers came out, my Saturn began collecting dust. It wasn't until years later that I realized what a great console this still was, and finally enjoyed gaming on it again.

  • great video james!

  • @Tonyippee Hey thanks Tony :D

  • We had a Saturn when i was a kid. Good games. My dad played Sega Rally a lot, while Virtua Fighter was what i played :)

  • Very nice review James!

  • @markvergeer Thank you mark :)

  • @WAANGTHEZOMBIES Yeah i totally agree the arcade ports are awesome! and i'm looking to add to my collection of saturn games with some japanese titles. thanks for the great comment.

  • Nice review dude, This system is one in my private collection and was really no.1 on my wishlist. How manay games do you have for the system? And do you know what the difference is between the saturan with round buttons and the ellips buttons? I have the one with the elips buttons

  • Dragon Force for the Saturn is awesome. You NEED the RAM Memory cart though..

also, modding a Saturn is a one-wire job... well worth looking into...

  • Poor Saturn... never gonna beat the N64 ;(

  • Excellent stuff, James :) The Saturn has always been a cult favourite of mine. It was marketed poorly, sales suffered in a big way and the boxes (PAL) were atrocious. With all that said I still love it and feel it was - and remains - thoroughly underappreciated! :)

  • Awsome Review! I need to get me one of those.

  • I went from the Sega Genesis to the Dreamcast never got a saturn, but i do want to get one. I want to play Shining Force 3 on it someday. Great Review!

  • @troubl8385 from what i have heard and seen shining force 3 is one of the better games on the saturn although i've still got to play the first one on the genesis myself, but i do love a game with a tactical approach as well :)

  • great review makes me want to get games for it

  • @larrygarrido9000 thanks mate :)

  • Sega Rally Championship got a lot of us growing up into rally racing. Saturn I think had the best controllers ever, I love both the standard and 3D controller with the analog stick.

  • @princedavid0 i'd love to own the arcade version, it's probably the one arcade i have spent the most amount of time on, and the saturn controller definately sits very comfortably, nice shaped too :)

  • watching this review while eating my dinner. the best way to watch chip videos. better than TV. keep it up man!

  • Sweet video mate , The saturn is still one of the best consoles out , although its underrated , its shooters was the mutts nutts

  • This is also the first console to allow dialup online multiplayer gaming in the household. Even though it could do 3D gaming, it was probably the best console for 2D games in the 90's.

  • @TheSideshowNick someone mentioned the net link is still working i'd love to see if it is.

  • Great review. I love my Saturn great little console. I also like the style of your reviews you should be on TV. Great Video

  • @Retr0Rewind Hey david thank you for the support and i really appreciate the kind words :)

  • Great review James! It would have been even better if you had used a ton of jump cuts. Har har har! No really, I love my Saturn. It's worth picking one up just to play Nights with the 3D controller. Die Hard Arcade is another one of my favorites.

  • @vintagevideogamegeek ROFL i always read your comments out to my wife and we were both in stiches lol. and i have no come back :D and i'm looking to pick up die hard arcade now.

  • maybe the most underrated system ever, along with the dreamcast, and like his sister, today this 2 systems are true jewels for the REAL gamer.

  • @agusgolturbo Hear Hear!!

  • It's a tie up between this and the N64 as to my choice of greatest console ever. Thanks for making this fantastic video review. What it has that most of today's consoles don't is atmosphere - for example modern driving games just don't seem half as fast. There's kind of a pier end arcade feel to the graphics that makes you think of donuts and ice creams. And the music- well it has yet to be beaten!

My favourite game was Pebble Beach Links Golf, many happy hours spent playing this!

  • @stellarartwars07 Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and i love what you said about the pier end arcade feel to the games on the saturn, that is so true!

  • My favorite console of the 32/64 bit gen,I bought it when it first launched and preordered the last five 5 games for the console back in 98..

    Panzer Saga,Burning Rangers,Rayearth,House of the Dead,and Shining Force 3.

Love the system,Really looking forward to Guardian Heroes HD!

  • @GamezOfWar do you still own panzer saga ? that game is so expensive to buy now.

  • Excellent review James, I've reviewed this console as well and I agree it's an underated classic. I hope to be able to get more titles for the system including some that not many people may know about.

  • @HighAnnoyedReviewer Hey nick i've added your review to the response section, and thanks for posting it! and i'm also looking for more titles there's so many i almost don't know where to start.

  • nice review...just subscribed :)

  • @garrett156 Hey thanks :) and thank you for the subscription!

  • Very awesome, James! I have always been on the fence of purchasing this system. One day I would like to obtain one. Keep up the great work!

  • Great review :)

  • @grantandcorky Thanks :D

  • Excellent review James as always my friend. : )

  • @jboypacman and thank you for John for watching :) i really appreciate the kind comment :)

  • Very cool review, James! Your videos are always very entertaing to watch. I cant tell you put alot of time in them!

  • @PWheat23 I meant to say I can tell u put alot of work on them.

  • Great system. One of the best controllers of all time!

  • im sorry but this was the time when graphics looked like dump because it was trying to be too realistic

some ps1 games looked decent for 3d and 64 looked least bad since it had 64 bit

if you look back the genesis had better looking graphics wasnt so blocky

those ports never looked good to me

    the real problem with saturn

    no true sonic game

  • Great review! At the time I honestly didn't play much of the Sega Saturn. I would have been 11 at the time of release and my parents weren't too enthusiastic on dropping a couple hundered dollars to buy console after console lol. Maybe someday I'll get around to picking one of these up and see what I missed out on.

  • I got the Sega Saturn 2 years before I got the Playstation and I enjoyed my time with it. I still have my original one back from 1996 but as you explained about the battery in the video, it is now dead and need to get a new one in order to save games.

I really want to get Panzer Dragoon Saga since it seems to be a classic on it but man it goes for £100+ easily on ebay and not going to force myself to pay that much.

Thumbs up for mentioning NiGHTS, which is my favourite game on the console.

  • @Darro85 Yeah my battery is dead to, i must replace mine as well, and blimmey your quite right about the saga version lol, i'll add that to my wish list..

  • awesome review as always. the Saturn is great

  • @hypersonic1337 Thanks alot :)

  • Awesome review chip.

  • @Omega7Gamer Thanks Charles :)

  • Best Games not in order. - Panzer Dragoon Saga + 1 and 2 - Dark Savior - NiGHTS - Alien trilogy - Resident evil - Shining force 3 - Burning Rangers - Saturn Bomberman - Torico - Shining the holy ark - . the house of the dead - Command and conquer -.Exhumed - Guardian Heroes - Mystaria - Deep Fear - Darkseed (import) - Metal slug (import) - Bomberman fight (import) - Shining force scen 2, 3 (import) -. Crusador no remorse -Landgrisser (Import) The list goes on..
  • @steve5123456789 Thanks for the great list! i'll be checking out a few of those i haven't heard of before, i love exhumed that's a classic i don't think i ever completed it, maybe i'll pop that one in again.

  • @Chipsturs I was surprised I thought it was going to be a crappy port like DOOM but it was really good, game saves, and everything. There all the games I own and also Christmas NiGHTS, there all the very best the console has for sure theres also Enemy zero but I wouldn't buy it, maybe its more your cup of tea, and Lunar (jap import) and Albert odyssey (US import rare tho)you will need to read the translations off the internet, print it off for lunar) then you step into mediocre games.

  • @Chipsturs Lastly I highly recommend Alien trilogy its the best FPS on the Saturn in my opinon, much better than the ps1 version you really feel like your in the game, ps AVIOD DOOM, Duke Nukem 3d, Hexen.

O and Dragon force, and Die Hard Arcade you might want to check out people say its really good Dragon force, I didn't like it much tho; you might.

  • happy 100 vids. can't wait for the next 100

  • @FuyuAkiWorld Hey thanks :) i have already passed 100 but youtube seems to be rather slow in catching up.

  • Great review, I've been really interested in getting a Sega Saturn for a while now but I can't find it for relatively cheap anywhere. On eBay it's pretty pricy it seems but my local video game store has a lot of the systems for $60 Canadian. Not sure if that's a good deal or not. I'd assume that they come with just the hookups and one controller.

  • Thanks for being so informative. I was never too interested in picking up a Saturn until I watched this video.

  • @jester1828 Well thank you for watching :) and i hope you can pick up a great deal if you do decide to add one to your collection. there are so many fantastic games for the system

  • I own every nintendo, sony, microsoft and saga console ever...... except the saturn and PS3, I really can't beleive that the saturn did not have a 3D sonic game!!! Its flagship series was totally ignored.... look at the impact of mario 64 on the n64!!!! the saturn needed a sonic equivilent for the saturn, i know they were making it but there were complications and someone died or something so it was abandoned but i never saw any reason to own a saturn at all.....

  • @snowball1988 The Saturn did have a 3D sonic game. Check out a game called Sonic Jam it featured the classic sonic games from the magadrive/genesis .. Sonic 1,2,3 & Sonic & Knuckles & then a 3D Sonic game. :)

  • they had e3 in 95?!

  • @SOUTHWESTENZ If I'm not mistaken, it was actually the very FIRST E3.

  • Great review. I am constantly torn between the Saturn and the Dreamcast as my favorite consoles. Both are always connected to my TV and they receive far more play than any other system I own. I love taking the Saturn to meet ups and seeing people's reactions as they play rare gems they have never heard of.

And to anyone considering owning a Saturn: Buy a Pro Action Replay 4 in 1 immediately. The Japanese SEGA Saturn library is legendary.

  • @wip3outguy7 ive never even played saturn ;( but i can see myself liking it more than snes and megadrive

  • @wip3outguy7 WOW that is a really cool idea and i should do exactly the same, i can tell you are very passionate about both systems and i'm not surprised you are torn between them, the games catelog is huge lol.

  • Great Saturn reviews Chipsturs. I enjoyed reliving the Saturn history also. I bought my Saturn back in the day on the strength of Sega Rally alone and still love that game on this system to this day! ^_^

  • @DLiberator78 It really is a great game to just pop in and play, good times :) thanks for the great memories and for the kind comment !

  • Great review. i love this console! The games cases were really shabby and the discs fall out real easy :-(

  • @TheGebs24 Hey gemma :) thanks for the kind comment and i always seem to struggle to get in to my sega saturn boxes especially the full plastic cases lol :)

  • @noog0909 WOW thanks alot :)

  • great video as always chips! i really enjoyed this video of your thoughts on the console since i've never owned one! thanx for uploading and can't wait for your next video! :D

  • @Fuelsterister Hi Thomas :) thank you for commenting, i always look forward to hearing from you, and i can't wait to crack on with the next review :) James

  • It was one of the systems that I completely missed out on, but one thing that impressed me about the saturn is that the saturn had an awesome selection of video games that were saturn exclusives. That system had an amazing library of anime style games for the North American market. I took the time to collect every one of them.

  • @TheCompletionist Thanks for the great comment and for the memories, there really are some solid gems for the system that really stand out, and some great exclusives.i'm still after dragon force.

  • omg i love sega rally championship, it was my first saturn game but my fav is virtua cop 2

  • @emojo1990 oh now i'm with you there, virtua cop 2 is awesome! i'd like to review it for the sega saturn, but i have already done a review on the playstation version.

  • @Chipsturs can anybody say, FIRST COMPARISON VID?!

  • I never really liked my Saturn. I only really loved one game and that was Die Hard Arcade.

Great review mate , the way reviews should be done mate.

  • @carbootgamerUK Thanks Daniel :) i was speaking to vintagevideogamegeek the other day on skype and we were talking about that game, i only have the die hard trilogy version. did you play that ?

  • @Chipsturs Die hard trilogy was a good game but the arcade die hard was amazing. Quite expensive to buy from ebay , I got it for £3 from a carboot lol. I suggest you do a review when you get a copy :)

  • It would be important to point out that the Saturn was a commercial failure in both North American and Europe but was quite successful in Japan with games still being made up until December 2000, giving it a 6 years lifespan.

  • @theimporter very fair comment! and thank you for pointing that out!

  • I bought my Sega Saturn on the day the Playstation was released. That probably wasn't the best choice in hind sight

  • I need to find one of those. Great review again chip:)

  • @crowflock Hey thank you :) and good luck picking one up, i hope you can find a great deal with a few games bundled in.

  • 4:35... this _virgin_???? :D

Nice review dude - starting with Sega Rally was the best move ever... It's good to see the underdog getting some new love lately...

  • @bsg7 ROFL blimmey you really were listening carefully and why on earth does it sound like i'm saying Virgin, must have been rushing the speech, lol, and thank you for the really kind comment :)

  • Great video James great to see a new one from you!, I still remember when I used to play with mine to me it was a great console still like it till this day.

  • @WeirdRicky Thanks Ricky :) it's great to be back with a new video and back on a sunday as well, i hope to make this a more regular fixture from now on. and thank you for the cool memory :)

  • Happy 100th Video Chipsturs! :D

  • @gorance2000 Hey thanks :D although i thought i had passed the 100 video mark about 3 videos ago and youtube hasn't updated it lol.

  • @Chipsturs Haha,and i'm looking forward to some more awesome Videos :D

  • I got a Sega Saturn Model 1 boxed in great condition for £15 last year and I love it. It is definitely underrated. It is a shame that Sega rushed it's release in NA. I do need some more games for it like Nights. I need to also pick up an action replay so I can play import games on it. Great video James.

  • @sulley1993 geeez that was a bargin! nice one James :) i'd also like to import a few titles as well Japan certainly benefitted from the system alot more than we did here in europe and america, and there are massives of games out there :o

  • nice video again

i love the sidescrolling beat em up games on this console and the arcade racer ;)

  • @derposti Thank you for the kind comment! and i would have to agree with you there!

  • Thank you for giving Saturn the praise it deserves.

  • @CDScythe Hey you are very welcome :) i've been wanting to give this great system some love for a long time! i've got a few more items i want to review from this system in the future as well :)

  • they still have the sega link working on this system

  • @MrDavidtron7 really ? wow might have to track down the net cable and try that out. thanks :)
