Why deprive someone of their singing skills just because they couldn't read? Maybe she was previously too poor to afford an education. I am not so sure that the way he words what he feels the need to say is always the most constructive. People put, well, some people, put a great deal in what his opinions are and when he jokingly calls people 'train wrecks' and 'disasters' and to sue their voice coaches, sure it gets the point across, but I can't help but feel that there are kinder, gentler ways of putting it. He is, after all, squashing people's dreams after a 2 minute attempt. A softer way of expression would not hurt him.
