I think I can answer this! He named it "The Catcher in the Rye" because the book is about Holden Caulfield who, while finding himself slowly says "Okay, Pheobe, wanna know what I wanna be? It's stupid but I wanna be a catcher in the rye." Now.. Caulfield. His name's significant! Caul is the protective barrier around a fetus- innocence? -and field is referencing the field of Rye. He's the protection 'round the real world for kids. The real world being the edge of the Rye.
@Reeve9207 I don't know if I am too sensible now, but your words made cry. Actually the book made me cry, it is brutally true, violent beauty of reality. What mesmerizes me more than anything is Holden's naked mind, he is sharing his secret with us because we are special, we can listen to him and his secret; and that can change our lives. We have our free will and we can choose our lives to be changed for good or for bad.
no this is not accurate. holden tells everybody everything, through his actions and subcontiously. if u read the book and actually look into the metaphors and symbols then its as plain as day. he tells Mrs. Morrow that he is a good guy and not as bad as everybody viewes him on that train, he wears that hat to draw attention to himself, it is red to show his wounded innocence. he keeps the blood on his face after stradlater punches him, that is a direct symbol of what he is feeling on the inside.
i thought the red hat was a way for him to try and make himself more like his brother and sister. they're both redheads but he isnt. i thought this cause he calls his hunting hat red but most hunting clothing is considered orange...idk just my thoughts
That may be the way that you view the novel, but everyone has a different view/ opinion of literature... that's why literature is LITERATURE, and not science or math where there is usually a concrete answer. Literature is the language of the soul, and everyone reads into meanings and symbolisms differently. There is no wrong answer. The only wrong answer would be to state a blatant lie like "Holden Caulfield is a woman."
if you could write us lyrics and chords would be fantastic. Great job !!

Rough take? Maybe so, but it's great, songs like this are better left imperfect and unpolished.

"it is red to show his wounded innocence" you're a classroom regurgitating phony.

It is the final sentence of the book.
