  • haha, I thought the first time he did the accent it was the Morningside one!

  • Why does he always sound like Billy Connolly? Literally the only person with that accent I've ever met.

  • A Tripplestacker has way more calories.

  • xD A "Stuffy", Stephen?!? I think you mean a stiffy!!! xD xD xD

  • >implying shut the fuck up, Mr Fry is talking!

  • @CindersSinner >implying PLEASE STOP STOP STOP YOU CAN'T GREENTEXT OUTSIDE OF 4CHAN!

  • @Foxglurves chill out babe, it's the little '>' that is actually quite a universal symbol that allows people to make points that are often prudent and interesting. However, feel free to rage on if you see fit.

  • @Foxglurves

dude he greentexted outside of 4chan you are breaking the epic fourth wall of epic win dude

  • 2:04 sounds exactly like billy connolly

  • lol no accent whatever

  • stephen fry's scottish accent at the beginning sounds EXACTLY like my grandfather

  • Was wondering how this woulkd go down on American TV? S'pose the two top comments answer the question .....

  • @MrPoupard

An American adaptation would be very interesting.

Who would be the American equivalent of Stephen Fry? I imagine only Hal Robins would be cut out for such a task.

  • @Jcolinsol Only Stephen Fry can replace Stephen Fry.

  • @ataraxic89 Not even in jest?

  • Swear it sounds like Billy Connolly

  • @Krynarn He really does.

How does he get that rasp?...

  • why does that sound so nice to me right now?

  • 1000 calories? That's nothing. 'Merica still wins.

  • @DavidTanisDreams rofl I am american and have never heard anyone say " 'Merica"

  • @DavidTanisDreams nope, Canada wins. watch 1 episode of EpicMealTime :P

  • @LulzMania1 I'm Scottish you're certainly at a loss here. Just because it's from a different country doesn't mean it's going to be good in it's own way. We have Doctor Who, they don't and if you only watch tv for that kind of thing then yes British TV wins and it's not bigotry. Also Fox news is absolutely horrible but I must admit I wish Bill Maher was on UK tv rather than US.

  • @swima94 I love Doctor Who but come on. Even among Science Fiction it varies wildly in quality, and at times is downright dreadful. Don't demean an entire nation's TV shows when you've obviously only watched a very narrow selection.

  • @NekoSOM Yeah fair enough, we have big brother.. and alot of other crud.

  • @NekoSOM That is the charm of brittish SciFi Dr.Who and Red Dwarf wouldn't be the same with fancy special effects, it is also a form of training imagination. When Telletubbies have better special effects than those two and they are still popular it says something about audience also. Anyway they would lose if they try to out special effect the Yanks

  • @soopie1 I was speaking more of the story lines rather than the special effects. I'd really rather not fish for an example, as my intent was not in any way to demean Doctor Who, but to defend American Sci-fi. I apologize for my ignorance regarding what Brits do and do not watch, but judging from my experience, American television tends to be judged overseas based on network shows and not cable. America has good television...but you're not going to find it on American networks.

  • since when is mimicking sean connery and billy connelly impersonating accents?

  • @LulzMania1 So you're saying Sean Connery and Billy Connelly are the only 2 people in the world who talk like that and they don't have an accent?

  • @drumgroovy no idiot. im from scotland myself. he impersonated 2 different accents (0:38 - connelly / 1:35 - connery) accents and anyone can do those 2 because they are on mainstream tv. why do you think americans find it hard to mimick british accents and british people find it incredibly easy to mimick american accents? apart from the fact that americans watch no british tv and british people watch both. you misunderstood my statement so I'll spare you the flame :)

  • @LulzMania1 LOL so what you're basically saying is you think Stephen Fry is American, because I keep reading American and America like a bazillion times.

OH YOU'RE Scottish... that explains everything. You're overthinking it. See, just because those two accents he did happened to be 2 popular personalities, it doesn't mean they're the only 2 people who speak like that. Plus, didn't Stephen mention in the video that he was talking about someone he met who's not Sean Connery?

  • @drumgroovy i used that american thing as an example irrelavant to this video but in the same context. he only used 2 accents that have came from 2 very famous people, theres more than 20 accents in scotland, thats my point yet he believes he can impersonate a scot....

your supporting my arguement - "it doesnt mean they're the only 2 people who speak like that" - so why are you bothereing yourself?

  • @drumgroovy i hate to contradict you but british people like american tv, they're just being biggots if they dont by saying "oh, british tv is far better than american tv" they are both good in its own way.

and i disagree, not all british actors are better than all american. there are some extraordinary actors in the US, and that aint really a reason, if that were the case then american people would watch british tv lolo

  • @LulzMania1 Wow you really don't like anyone do you? Look at the future Superman, Spider-Man and the current Batman. All British. Even Magneto is now Irish. But you get my point. And by the way, not liking TV from a certain country is FAR from bigotry LOLOLOL. It's called preference. I honestly find American tv to be shit. Oh no I'm a bigot. And when I say they're not the only 2 people, I meant there are other people in Scotland with the same accent, so no I'm not proving your point.

  • And by the way, I never said all British actors, but can you name a really good American actor who just came out within the last 5 years? And Americans don't watch British TV because of how everyone thinks of them. You know what I'm talking about.

So you honestly think that if he impersonates an obscure Scottish accent, then it's considered an impersonation? You do know what impersonate means right? Which means to copy mannerisms? Didn't he do just that? See... overthinking. Defensive too.

  • And sorry to make this 3 posts, Americans don't watch British TV because they can't get it over there. And I mean literally get it... which is why they are on youtube watching QI, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Mock The Week and what have you not. And I'd like to keep this debate going, but this is really tiring. So if you decide that you've won this argument, go ahead. Bye!

  • @drumgroovy it can be a preference but because of geographical circumstances its also being biased. yes, american tv is balls its nothing but idiotic, toilet and non-witty humour (except scrubs cos i love it lol). a good actor in the last 5 years? a good american actor in the past 5 years is an oxymoron imo so that aint a fair question xD. yes they dont get british humour cos they are dumbass's. nice life story did you really need 3 posts? >:D

  • @LulzMania1 And don't forget Modern Family. Blame youtube for their character limit.

  • And by the way, you're Scottish so I don't think you realise that the (majority of) British hate American TV. See now you're the one generalising, so your entire point is rendered hypocritical. Plus, British actors are better than American actors so that's another reason.

  • wooo im from glasgow yummy yummy Pizza cruchy yum yum

  • What a minute. American here. Does this make Professor McGonagall Scottish?

  • @MrEdLoop Very much so - at least in the movies, though in the books there is quite a lot of reference to her wearing article of clothing in [Scottish] tartan

  • @merkowaty1 Oh, never knew that. Thanks for letting me know.

  • @MrEdLoop Ummm...yes?

  • The deep fried sausage thing is nothing compared to the deep fried Mars Bars

  • @NorthCountryBoy43 sorry mate ur obviously no north country enough!!! a stonner (stander, thing that stands up) is indeed a colloquial term for a boner hardon woody erection etc in certain parts of scotland. no disrespect meant, hope this clears things up, one glove my brother!!

  • nope.......av never hear ay a stonner kebab...... but am sure as fuck askin alfie fur wan nixt time am in his chippie!!!!!!!! the tally basssturt lol, oh an dont forget the battered mars bar fur dessert ya kunt!!!

  • im scottish <3

  • Ever heard of epic meal time?

  • i've lived in glasgow my entire life and i've never encountered a deep fried sausage kebab, and i've eaten just about every kind of turgid crap you can buy at 3am on a night out!

  • @Rabsputin no heard of a stauner kebab?

  • @aidsyturban nope, but it sounds like somethin you might get in a kebab shop near bennets.

  • i've tried it..it's fucking amazing!

  • It amazes me that this man can pronounce his Ts

  • "1000 of your best calories, and 46g of fat" Obviously Epicmealtime didn't excist at this point :P

  • ...

im a dwarf and im digging a hole

  • @ChickenPludder a diggy diggy hole?

  • @ClTIZEN I'm digging a hole...

  • i had no idea this was stephen fry..he played reaver in fable..cool

  • @NorthCountryBoy43 it's stawner in glasgow though. which is slang for stander

  • im a dwarf and im digging a hole

  • @WeWillNotRockYou1 Simon reference?

  • @Finzed1 what other simon is there that pretends he's a dwarf and digs a hole?

  • @oOBeagleOo True, true.

  • who's the woman?

  • I'm shocked that they don't do a kind of thing like this in America, they always steal our shows.

  • @Itheanonymous Too damn challenging to the brain. Its much easier to watch silly home made videos and hear banana slip sound effects than to actually trying to figure out the jokes these people are throwing at you all the time. Its like the heckler said to Bill Hicks: "I didnt come here to think" iirc.

  • The raspy Scottish accent sounds like Johnny Vegas to me..

  • Arthur Smith isnt funny.

  • @YARROWS He is, but he's better in live performance. He's written some excellent one-man shows.

  • not "like" it's exatly that xD

  • is that a dwarf ?

  • i have no idea what's going on but i wish american tv was more like this

  • @tubertomp I heard an American tv company was considering buying the rights to broadcast QI, but thought the American people were "too stupid" to appreciate it.

Bollocks if you ask me. Sure, some Americans are stupid, but from what I've gathered by hanging around on the internet there are many intelligent Americans who would love to see a show like this.

  • @vulnerabledonkey Culture references are the biggest barrier; not the lack of intellect, mate.

  • @tubertomp As an Irishman who once watched 5 minutes of "America's Got Talent", I can safely say we all do.

  • @RavingCelt009

    >implying "Britain's Got Talent" is any better

  • @EebstertheGreat MALARIA is better than Britain's Got Freaks...er, Talent.

  • @EebstertheGreat

    > implying Ireland is part of the UK

  • @crazyliberalguy

    >implying I implied that

    >implying QI is not a BBC show

  • @EebstertheGreat will every 1 stop implying an just fuck say it lol

  • @tubertomp

America doesn't have Qi yet? This makes me very sad... a) because it is the best quiz show ever conceived a comical take on all the obscure knowledge and b) because it has Stephen Fry hosting it and he is rapidly becoming Britain's biggest treasure

  • @tubertomp: And I wish British TV was more like American cable.

  • @tubertomp Neither does anyone. British gameshows accomplish absolutely nothing

  • @tubertomp It would be if more people watched it on the rare occasions it came along

American TV is dictated by ratings SO MUCH MROE SO than in the UK, so all people gotta do to see more of something is watch it more when it actually shows up

  • Maggie Smith is Scottish though.

  • @Nicky131Popstar Not really, only through a parent. Her accent is very close to what Maggie Smith speaks.

  • @jeneshisugakuto ah ok :)

  • @Nicky131Popstar - You must be confusing her with the character she plays in Harry Potter.

  • @cleverandrew123 No i had been told she was Scottish

  • is that woman from smack the pony?

  • @julesbanana1 yep!

  • @julesbanana1 Yeahh, I saw her in the Government Inspector in June, she was great! Even though I only went for Julian Barratt :P the whole thing was fantastic :]

  • LOL a staun'er lol quality man :D

    MON THE WEEGIES!!! :D

  • The Morningside accent was Mrs McGonagall from Harry Potter...

  • @TheEightyNinth

That's Professor McGonagall to you :)

  • @EnigmaDrath Haha balls, I knew someone would notice!

  • @TheEightyNinth

LOL Sorry to nitpick. It just ... looked wrong. Had to say something :P

  • all the accents were pretty damn good

  • Stephen Fry can master anything. From Scottish accents to mindless trivia...and yet the thing that slips him up is all that is the Newcastle Geordie!

  • I'm from Morningside, and there was that kind of old lady there in the past, and in fact still is! Im a professional comic book writer and my next book is an autobio one called 'Once upon a time in Morningside'

  • Tip Top , well done Mr Fry

  • I miss old school, glasses wearing stephen fry. :/

  • to be fair to him his Scottish accent was quite good.

  • At 1:58 it looks like the guy is missing part of his head.

  • I'm scottish and that was the best scottish accent I've heard!

    Sounds like Billy Connolly

  • he sounds like johnny vegas when he tries to do a scottish accent

  • This ability to do different voices and accents is why he's so good on the Harry Potter audio books. He did his McGonagall accent at one point in this video.

  • The best Billy Connolly accent i've ever heard lol

    Fry is awesome!!!

  • Morningside is full of poofs who think they r better than everyone else but really they r just wannabe posh twats

  • @97eforsyth Bit of a Generalisation there mate and really not true from my Knowledge of The typical Mornisider is a Student. Really you are talking pants and you obviously feel intimidated by what is at the end of the day is an accent. The Morningside area is full of a wide range of people Wealthy, Poor, Mixed race, Gay, Straight whatever. You are just highlighting the ignorant chip that you have on your shoulder.

  • he voiced The Chesire Cat!

  • these guys have never seen epicmealtime

  • stoner means erection? i thought it means junkie

  • @darkmater4tm no not stoner like some one who smokes weed, a stonner, say staw-nur, its weegie (glasweegian) slag that litterally means a stander.

  • @darkmater4tm stoner does mean junkie, but he didnt say stoner he said "stawnur" so it would rhyme with dawn-hur (hur as in ben hur or hurr derp)

it comes from the word "stander" which is a synonym for erection. with a strong glaswegian accent it becomes "stawnur"

  • @darkmater4tm Stawner = Erection

  • That's Billy Connolly!

  • @EricAurumSkagg Yus, and I love him too!

  • @EricAurumSkagg exactly! and it's a spot on impersonation

  • @samsung54369 hahahahahaha

  • @samsung54369

Your statement is invalid. I suggest you go to school and educate yourself about homosexuality.

  • @AesWolf just because they whisper weirdly in your ear during that whole "spooning" period, doesn't mean they were Scottish. They might've been trying to hide the fact that your Mum was a Sony fan.

  • Hahaha I live in Morningside and it's true!

  • Who's the woman there? She looks familiar...

  • @Volfie999 It's Doon Mackichan.

  • @Lutsch, Scottish is British, you're making the mistake that many people outside the UK and Ireland make. British means being of the United Kingdom ie(Scottish,English, Welsh, and Northern Irish).

  • @stevebloodymckenna Aye, but hardly anyone in Scotland would ever describe themselves as British. ( i certainly wouldn't).

  • @stevebloodymckenna and just to interject, British doesn't mean of the United Kingdom it means of the island of Great Britain comprising of England, Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland is completely separate from Britain geographically, it's the northern part of Ireland. When Great Britain and Northern Ireland are added together they become the UK.

  • @DobbyKing1

The demonym for the citizens of the United Kingdom is British. Even though they're not living on Britain, they're classed as British.

  • @cmwissy I doubt Northern Irish people would see it that way.

  • @DobbyKing1 Regardless of how they see it, Northern Irish people are British.

  • @tegrenath even though they're not, completely different Island, no way around that.

  • @tegrenath Northern Irish people aren't actually British, they are part of the UK but they are Irish not British. The full name of the UK is actually The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

  • Comment removed

  • @tegrenath lol, Really? Christ... then why did the Good Friday Agreement stipulate that it is “the birthright of all the people of Northern Ireland to identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British or both, as they may so choose." And, perhaps, you could explain where on my Irish passport it confirms my British nationality? Oh, Beefie11, such woeful ignorance.

  • @wollygoggles this is neither the time nor the place, nor was there anything in the video to warrant any discussion of tht nature!!

    general ignorance indeed!!!

  • @tegrenath Good Friday Agreement 1998: the recognition of “the birthright of all the people of Northern Ireland to identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British or both, as they may so choose”, and that “their right to hold both British and Irish citizenship is accepted by both Governments". Think before you speak dear fellow.

  • The last accent of Stephen's sounded like Johnny Vegas..I think its him I'm thinking of (the guy from the PG Tips ads)

  • Isn't that a British accent Stephen is doing when imitating the Scotsman who thought he had a British accent?

  • @Lutsch I think you mean English accent and no that was Scottish. If you go to, say, Edinburgh or Falkirk you might meet people that talk like that. It's where Sean Connery is from.

  • pissin' it ><

  • whos the dwarf?

  • @alexhamster1134

    Andy Hamilton

  • there's only Billy Connolly sounds like that. Even the voice was the same.

  • @gnamp But such a brilliant impression of Billy!

  • @gentlerobot yep- totally.

  • What the guy said about giving it a special name, it would actually sell. It was on Penn and Teller's show Bullshit. They had a 'chef' that took Mcdonald's, Taco Bell, and other fast food, mixed them together and made them look 'nice'. Everyone who ate these concoctions thought them great and believed them to be low in fat and calories. All just from a name and how it was presented.

  • He sounds like Billy conoly or the guys from still game

  • He's got a very camp Scottish accent, not a glasgow one!

  • @Bucketheadhead

    you mean a Glaswegian one?

  • They should try the deep-fried Mars bar!

  • The stonner supper is one of the greatest inventions ever.

  • He needs to visit america again we have deep-fired:

    oreos

    twinkies

    butter

    pickles

    cake

and trust me one bite could kill ya

  • @quinnolivia Ignorance is fucking bliss. If you think that's bad, you've had a good start in life, trust me.

Though a lot of that was obviously made up, even if it was technically accurate we'd still have you trumped.

  • @funkrocksock I swear to god all of what i said is true and you actually want to beat america in a fat fight BRING IT ON

  • @quinnolivia I shall go into detail, then. For starters, you said 'deep fired', not deep fried. Probably not intentional, but still incorrect. Then... Butter? Deep fried butter? How does that work, a stick of butter, fried into form? I understand that you have fatty foods. But our food isn't just fatty, it's absolute shite. At least your foods are made from actual ingredients. Oh, and deep fried sweets? Virtually any chocolate bar you can imagine, we have a deep fried variation. You're not alone

  • @funkrocksock You dont believe we have deep fried butter fine google fried butter btw you think our foods good or made out of real ingredients my god your mistaken and so what i made a typing mistake sorry i dont proof read my comments

  • @funkrocksock Actual ingredients? This is the nation that gave the world violently orange cheese in a can. That comes out like silly string. I'm still reeling. D:

  • @quinnolivia While I agree that Americans can and do fry a lot of shit, we don't hold a candle to the Scots.

Seriously, they would fry whiskey if they could figure out how to batter it.

  • @ciaochowbella ACTUALLY my cousin has found a way to fry budweiser lol

  • @quinnolivia That's just wrong.

  • @ciaochowbella I know!

  • @ciaochowbella ever heard of beer batter? :P i bet that works with whisky too

  • @ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz I know there's whiskey BBQ sauce....but whiskey batter, not sure. I'll have to try it.

  • @ciaochowbella your talking about the jack daniels stuff huh, had that with my lunch today, oh god im a stereotype :P

  • @ImEuanAndIGotsSkeelz Jack Daniels is swill. Try Maker's Mark of Knob Hill.....at the very least Wild Turkey. Tennessee sour mash is nasty.

  • @0:04 They've never been to America.

  • I love this and as a Scot I love hearing people of other nationalities doing our accent,it's so funny.

He is dead right about not thinking you sound Scottish but in fact sounding really Scottish.

    Stephen Fry is ace.

  • The blooming onion is a whole, large sweet onion that has been dipped in a batter, deep fried, and served with a creamy, very fattening dipping sauce. Search google for "bloomin onion" and you can find a good picture

  • I really liked the sound of that sausage wrapped in doner meat, covered in batter and deep fat fried. It's kind of like a pregnancy craving, except I'm a guy.

  • How DARE Mr. Fry insinuate that the scots could even begin to approach us Americans in the ability to make unhealthy food. I'm appalled and offended. We invented the blooming onion, with over 2200 calories and 130 grams of fat! AND IT'S AN APPETIZER!

Frankly, I would only be satisfied with a retraction on Mr. Fry's part.

  • @TheGreatMon Average life expectancy in Glasgow, at just under 54 years, is less than that of Iraq, I think we can properly lay claim to having the worst diet in the world.

  • @yatter1 worst diet in the world? I think I immigrate and eat ya'll out of house and home.. Anyone see the petrified McDonald's Happy Meal photographs?

  • @TheGreatMon However, could you explain the "blooming onion"?

  • 2:01 - Stephen channels his inner alcoholic "Billy Connolly" :)
