They're harmonics, no special effects, though the harmonics on those particular frets and strings are a bit trickier to perform, still should sound like it more. ;P

Hey gauge string do you use? I tuned mine to drop A, but I think mine are too thin. The open A 6th string sounds fine, but when I play the octave at the 12th fret and the other notes on the 6th string, it sounds like crap. Any advice?

sure, download powertab, its free, then go to ultimateguitar and search this song, or whatever song u want, and download the version saying powertab beside it, then open up powertab and drag that baby in there, itl tell you exactly how to play the tempo and notes, oh providing you can read tabs btw, but its not hard.

I think the tuning for the song is debatable. Some say the tunign on a 7 string is AADDGBe, some say it is ADADGBe, some play it on a 6 string with a DADGBe tuning ... you see, every one play it like he think´s it´s right...

Lets say "A Normal Guitar" is tuned in E

A B C D E F G. So, if you tune your guitar down from E to G you have tuned down way too much. The 'A' you are speaking about is higher then the 'G'. Oh well, you might be tuning the wrong direction..?

jimmydb: You don't use a telecaster for a heavily distorted song like this, even if it has humbuckers. Throw in the fact that it's thinline and has a maple neck, you wouldn't be able to get the sound you're looking for.
