  • Sweet, what a piece of Ford history. Thanks for posting!

  • white and red beautiful combo

  • What a cool car! Too bad it never went into production,so much better looking than cars today!

  • I love it when these Concept Cars get back on the road.

So many of them were lost.

  • My 56' Mercury wagon is for sale! :) OK, it's not nearly as cool as the XM! Thought I would try!

  • What a wonderful vehicle! You are very fortunate and very talented for such a restored work of art! Thank you for showing it.

  • Sorry, nothing further yet, but I plan to add more real soon. Thanks for looking and for the nice comments!

  • Simply beautiful! I could watch this video endlessly!!

    Thank You!!

Have you posted anything further on it?

    Thanks, Rick

  • Tom, thanks so much for sharing, really a break through car for its time

  • C'est une voiture vraiment magnifique, quelle beauté cette caisse!

malheureusement on ne fabrique plus de tels bijoux de nos jours

  • I'm glad you like the XM-800, it was a pleasure to own and restore this piece of Ford History.

  • never heard of this car, now will never be able to forget this car Thanx

  • i like that a lot better than the thunderbird that is beautiful,

  • i like that a lot better than the thunderbird

  • WOW! Pretty amazing car for 1954

  • very cool - i just saw another group do a recreation of a 1956 pontiac club de Mer that's being auctioned in palm beach this weekend.

There's tons of cool retro-future designs of cars that would make killer custom rides today - easier to accomplish with today's tec too.

  • @followyourbliss101

A friend of mine built the Club de Mer clone and sold it at Barrett-Jackson in Jan '09.

What auction is it at this weekend and do you have a link to it?

    Thanks

  • Very cool Cousin Tom... Great job.

  • The XM-800 will be on display at the 2011 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance March 13, 2011

    Pebble Beach may be next!

  • @tpls63 Did you attend Pebble Beach this year?

  • @56Mercgal No, but the XM-800 did attend Amelia Island and the Hershey Concours.

    Maybe Pebble next year??

  • very interesting, thank you for sharing!

  • I wish John was still alive to see the magnificent job you did on his creation Tom. A nicer, more humbler man i never met than Johnny Najjar, and his wife Ginny. I will always cherish my visit with them at their home in Sarasota. Now that the XM and the Italien are gone Tom, what are your newest ventures?? Someone needs to find Iacocca's 62 Thunderbird Roadster with the 406 4 spd and the in dash tach.... Or how about the fabled 54 mark II Retractable?? That one is a local Detroit legend!

  • nice famous car ! but but but no a/c and heat ! sorry !.

  • Why is there a spare in a concept car that wasn't even supposed to run???

    Fabulous car though!

  • I imagine that they just wanted to show that it all would work as a production car. It came very close. Anyway, you have to let the air out of the spare to get it in or out of the trunk so the plan needed some fine tuning. It was a fun car to restore.

  • Thanks for posting this very unusual car. to bad it never made production. Thank you for restoring a part of history.

  • You should enter this car into the Pebble Beach Concours De Elegance. It would really be a head turner!! And I live 40 min from there, it would be great to meet you and see your beautiful Merc on display! :)

  • The current owner will have the car at the Amelia Island Concours d'elegance in march 2011. Maybe Pebble next!

  • Is the car street legal? It would be nice to be able to drive a car like this on the open road. I know it's not practical because of the rarity of it, but it would still be fun.

  • It's amazing you have this beautiful car! WOW! That's great!

  • Thanks for this video - it's an AMAZING concept car - it is shame that I cannot see it personally.....you did a GREAT JOB!

  • Amazing piece of work!!

  • Thank you! This is a wonderful car.

  • i love these concept cars , great job , thanks for preserving the history

  • wonderful!

  • this is one beautiful automobile. I can see where the Batmobile was inspired for it's headlight design!

  • It looks like a 1956 Lincoln.

  • nash used those type of sunvisors from 1952 thru 1957

  • well done FORD did well and you sir my sincere congradulations this car is awesome, words do not describe this fine auto. 5 stars

Thank you from all FORD drivers.

  • grille looks kinda like 67 mustang taillights

  • a beautiful car and an excellent restoration !

  • never work on the canadian border in winter.

  • formal hardtop

  • Another amazing Tom Maruska restoration that is both well documented and educational at every step of the way. Congratulations for your work in excellence, and your desire to share information with others.

  • yes it does, but it's not scary anymore

  • does that thing have the scary treadle-vac(spelling) master cylinder for the brakes?

  • This is incredible! Thanks for posting it, and most of all ... THANKS for restoring it!! My son and I saw the car last weekend at the Concours at Meadowbrook ... AWESOME!!!

  • What a fantastic Concept car. You've done it once again Tom. Congratz.

  • That is one sweet rolling masterpiece!!!!

  • Wow! Great piece of history. 5*s

  • Breathtaking and I'm sure a Herculean challenge!

Thanks for bringing it to us! :) Jack

  • This car was way ahead of its time. Power seats, trunk, hood, stuff we are just begining to see today Mercury had planned for the 50's. Way too cool!

  • amazing work, i don't know how you did it, but it looks better than new, and i will share this with all my friends i am sure they will find this very interesting, overall great video and great work, you did a amazing job, just like all the other cars you have done, also i imagine this car is fairly light? i mean compared to a steel car, also could it be road legal? and you need to snap some pictures of this, i would love to have some pictures of it, and keep up the great work! :)

    -Brent

  • That car is wicked cool & interesting! Finally i see another car with a big round clock on the Passenger side dash and with a Sweeping second hand. -BOGAR!
