See that? Kirbys are obsolete. There is nothing new with newer Kirby models AT ALL. Dyson has been up-to-date with every new model they come out with.
the Dyson dc25 (and not all models are the same for either brand name) but the dc 25 has a gear drive roller brush head with a seperate motor turning it than what is from the suction motor (thats 2 seperate motors) as for the "plastic", Dyson's are made with the same ABS high impact plastic that is used for the face shields of helmets so if you broke it you must have hit it with a sledge hammer...any vacuum of any brand will need to be cleaned out regularly.
As far as emptying it often, doesn't that just mean its cleaning your carpet good and is picking up a lot of crap?, i would be more worried if i DIDN'T have to empty it often...a lot of the bickering over brand loyalty can be resolved if you just use common sense and look at the facts
@kegskius: let me tell you something...I am a proud Kirby owner with nothing but trouble free operation for the past 19 years! now if you think a dyson is better for you then fine but don't put down kirby because they make a mighty fine vacuum!
I can see why the average person buys a dyson, its cuz the advertising, sad part is, that's what you pay for with a dyson ball for instance, a 50 dollar vac that does a 50 dollar job the other $400 you paid was for its advertising. you already had a kirby then wasted an extra $450 on the dyson cuz you had NO IDEA that the dyson destroys your carpet, dosen't have 1/4th the suction of the kirby and that you were throwing your money away. That's old kirby works way better than ur dyson ever could.
I keep hearing about kirbys having to be tuned up. what do they do. i bought mine used. it works great. i change bags often and keep it clean. what else do you have to do to them?
@smithdsmit I imagine they clean them out - the motor, maybe oil it. They probably change the belts and maybe the brush roller, but I think it's more mechanical. Like a car. We've had it done a few times and it seems to help somewhat...
Both vacuums are crap. The Dyson does NOT clean any better than any other plastic upright vacuum. In fact, the airflow to the hose is much poorer than with other brands. Search around on Youtube or contact local vacuum shops and you will find a ton of Dysons in for repairs.
The Kirby is way overpriced and has expensive consumables, namely bags and belts. If you want a great all metal vacuum, try the Royal Everlast.
If you want the best vacuum, try the Miele S7 or the Riccar Radience.
im looking up reviews to find a great vacuum and i noticed that there is a bunch of dyson haters on youtube. so i want to know why. correct me if im wrong but why would you want a vacuum with a bag? isn't it incovenient and tedious having to always buy and change bags? and in many videos i've seen, the dyson works great so why kirby or any other brand? and why do people go crazy over kirby and resort to swearing (jcal5150)?
It's really a toss-up for me. With the Dyson, i love not having to buy vacuum bags but i do have the empty the canister numerous times while vacuuming. Bags simply hold more. I save a lot of money not buying bags. Some people say that they don't like bagless because emptying the dirt causes it to go back up into the air. I don't really notice that problem unless I use a very full garbage bag to empty it into.
@Xtracik807 People tend to do two things first put on an heir of superiority when they pay more. Its to reassure themselves they weren't foolish in overspending. Same as a bully hiding their insecurities. Second use of foul language when they don't have a point or no proof to back it up. I have been watching a few Kirby vids today and most of them are littered with Kirby reps' calling everyone stupid, retarded, etc and using of foul language. doesn't help the image at all.
@jairodrigue I agree. i think some people just lack the vocabulary skills to express themselves with normal language. its a pointless display of frustration.
@Xtracik807 I will tell you why hate bagless vacuums. for one.Every bagless vacuum ive ever tried.Only works well if it is empty when you start. which means you have yp clean it after every use.every time you dump the canister. you are getting tons of dust in the air and in your garbage can. With a bag. there is far less dust. take bag off carefully. i put that bag in a plastic grocery bag. And throow it away. very little dust compared to emptying a canister into a trash can every time you vacuum
@Xtracik807 I have a cleaning service and Dysons brush needs constant cleaning or it just freezes up .. The canister always needs cleaning (doesn't hold much) so when I'm at a clients house sometimes emptying it 3 or four times a house this is time consuming and nasty (got to be done outside) Kirbys have a HEPA filter bag option I can do three to 6 homes before throwing the bag out clean and easy and I don't have to leave dirt at a customers home (very hard to take the Dysons mess with ya)
I actually crash into things all the time and haven't had a problem. I mean, I don't like race it against the dog and go 60 MPH into anything....just normal usage stuff.
My Dyson picks up better than the Kirby, does not get clogged at the belt with dog hair and over the course of 20 years, if I bought a Dyson every 5 years (they have a 5 year bumper-to-bumper) it would only cost me half of what the Kirby cost with its original price plus bags, belts and tune-ups etc.
I would never recommend anyone buy a Kirby over a Dyson.
But! Kirby parts will always be available. I can still buy all the parts for a 1945 kirby. Look at dysons- most parts are no long available for their early machines.
I have never had a clog on a kirby. EVER. And we have a chocolate lab and a retriever. Kirbys are on ebay for virtually nothing. Dysons are always high priced. I can buy a 5 year old kirby for $100. Bags are cheap too. belts are super cheap and easy to replace.
Just my thoughts. I wouldnt buy a dyson. Sorry though.

No problem, I do appreciate the input. We all have different opinions and experiences.
My Kirby gets caught up with hair at the belt ALL the time, and burns out the belt.

Yea I understand why some people like Dysons. But I am a life long kirby enthusiest. I just cant live without one!
