WOW.....I PASSED LOL.......got by with 10 points deducted...not bad for the 1st time.......shoulda done this 30 years ago...( used a harley 883 for the test)
@johncat3 Congrats! FYI - there are several 'intermediate', 'experienced', and 'advanced' courses offered in WA that really help riders understand FEAR, Vision & Line Selection, and Cornering!
If you've not taken a rider training course... try one!
A lot of what 'works' at (faster) street speeds is counter intuitive. It isn't what we 'think' we should do.
All the videos are awsome but most just state the most common mistake most riders amke. If you guys couldput some videos together that show how to correct those mistakes that would be very helpful. Another question I have is do you guys offer motorcycle safety classes? If so where do you go to sign up? Is there any skills classes?Thank you for the videos and any information I am a brand new rider.
@AmericanSCPO Thanks! Our goal was to inform folks about the components and skills looked at in the evals.
There are lots of 'ways' and 'techniques' to ride. (Dependent upon rider, bike, abilities/limitations, and (trained) skills.) These videos were not designed to 'teach' folks how to ride, or how to pass. Just inform and get folks thinking.
Yes, there are rider training safety courses available. Go to dol.wa.gov for info about motorcycle classes offered.
Well just to let you know I will be going back over and testing again on Wed. Tony also. Crap little harder then it looks.. Or I'm getting old. LOL all is good. thanks again Chris
@NanaChrissy2008 -Riding techniques aren't intuitive. In fact, a lot are just opposite.
(Oh... "old" is simply a 'state of mind')
There are tremendous benefits to taking training classes. Instructors can help you explore limits/techniques. (Both your's and the bikes.) For $125 -the courses also offer testing (knowledge/riding-skills) that will allow you to add an endorsement.
I wouldn't know most of what I do (now) without on-going safety courses.
The videos are super. I will be doing my driving test today. I'm scarred to death to be honest. Thank you for having these videos to watch.. Will let you know what happens....Chris
Thanks for posting these videos. I am going to take the rider safety course here in tn shortly and hopfully get my license. You videos have been really helpful to get an idea of what I will have to do.
spirithunter7786 - WOOOOOHOOOOO! The safety courses are FANTASTIC! Not only teaching basic skills/techniques, but more importantly, safe(r) street strategies! The (mental) skills that you'll apply can help you be a better rider and driver!
These courses are a great way to get endorsed... and learn/finesse riding skills. (You don't have to balance a car!)
After watching your videos, I feel more confident in being able to pass the test. I'm 16 and am getting a bike soon. I'm gonna practice all these one I get it.
@swisscosmo Perhaps someone knows about some good videos from BC and could share that info here. Good chance @KMMCSafety has some connections in BC. Maybe he can point you toward some helpful videos. Don't be surprised if he posts a comment here in the next day or two. Thanks for checking our videos.
2) Endorsement (via knowledge and riding-skills test at via DOL)
or
3) Endorsement: via a safety course including basic skills and safer street strategy training, and both a knowledge and riding-skills test. Once completed, students take the completion card to DOL to add an endorsement to their license.
Trained and endorsed riders are less likely to be involved in crashes.
In the UK we now have a 2 part test. Part 1 is off road and one of the elements is a swerve test (Hazzard Avoidance) for which the rider must travel at a MINIMUM of 32mph - through a speed trap - immediately before the swerve. It has been a controversial element to say the least!
@saintlykiterman off road redbull x fighters? ;) By the way I think the examination tasks are very good. However DMV should have their own examination vehicles.
IM SO SCARED.. When Ive been practicing I felt like the bike was going to crush my leg. (having had many injuries) After learning and getting past 1st gear it was such a relief .
I hope I pass! The bikes they use at the testing area are suppose to be smaller anyways!
@Chainblade... 'bike was going to crush my leg' ? In what way???
U-turn? Swerve??
Try a slight (positive throttle) roll-on as you swerve. This usually helps w/ control & stability.
"bikes they use as testing" is true for safety classes. DOL doesn't provide bikes for license endorsement testing. (Only training companies do -as part of a safety course.)
For $125, a safety course (including testing) can be a 'better' option. They also discuss safe(r) street strategies for motorcycles!
DOL instructs riders to ride this evaluation at a stabilized speed between 12-20 mph. Testers are looking for riders to demonstrate their understanding and skill of using countersteering to avoid the obstacle line -in a manner that is safe, effective, and efficient.

The only think I have found is a link that offers info to help prepare for the skills test and road test.

I meant when first learning to ride.. I was afraid it was going to fall, thats all. (it was a heavy bike)
I'm completely comfortable now haha.
And the injuries were the ones where I was younger (bicycle and quad) and they were pretty major.
Getting past the fear factor and first girl on a bike is all it took to feel completely great!
I know at least the test will be more comfortable then if I was completely new.
Thanks for the tips though!

in the new UK motorcycle test we have to do the swerve at no less than 32mph (wet or dry). quite a few people have been injured so far.
