  • I love that Garrett just stands there, O_O-ing, as Viktoria drops her robe, grows claws, and booms "BOW TO THE WOODISE LORD, MANFOOL." ....God, this game is awesome.

  • doesn't svare me.

  • My chair was shat this night

  • does this game work on window xp

  • @samantha34ize Yes it will. Two problems I had were that the game sometimes wouldn't play the cut scenes and that it would crash because of the multi core processor. Both issues can be worked around though.

  • That bitch stole your eye!

  • Karras disliked this 4 times.

  • wow, I played the demo years and years ago, and I didn't ever know that this kind of animation that looks like it was make in flash would be in a game from the end of 90's, the gameplay graphics arent much far from Shadown Warror, just with 3d characters.

  • fantastic game..still have my discs in their original jackets with like 3 copies each.

  • " it's a ROCK!?!?!"

    uhm?

  • It's sucks that Garrett lost one of his eye. But the cool thing is that he the mechanical eye that is useful for the second game.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually you could see that coming. Constantine clearly has supernatural powers - all those vines around him and weird rooms in his house. Then the Eye is clearly an evil artifact - it made the cathedral haunted with all thesezombies. What happens when you put both together - Wizard + Evil Artifact = nothing good.

I was like: Garrett, what were you thinking? You should have hidden the eye and went to negotiate - receive the money first then give the eye. Or do it in public or something. )))

  • @KostjaMRH yeah like in front of tesco or something...

  • @leesmithy7atgmail lol tesco

  • @KostjaMRH Well it was a "hitchcock"-type shocker to me! Maybe I'm a little slow, but at best, I got the impression that Constantine knew or was hired by the Trickster. I almost shat my pants once Tino turned into the Trickster along with Viktoria!

  • The Dark Circle website has lots of dlc and other stuff. Great for any fan. Lots of fan made missions and many of them quite good. I also recommend any fan to find and download TX2, a fan made stand alone game where you play a young woman who comes to the city and learns to be a thief. Easily could have been on store shelves.

  • I remember playing the game several times as a kid... up until this point. I was too afraid to go further

  • Thief 1 and 2 NEED to be made available on Good Old Games! I'm having a terrible time trying to get Thief Gold to work on Win 7, and I've long since lost the installation disk for Thief 2. I'll happily buy both games again if they were put up at GOG.

  • @Kovitlac Try downloading the DDFix patches.

  • @Kovitlac Try downloading the DDFix patches. And run it in Windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode. There are some drawbacks, but at least you'll be playing the game again. :)

  • @sunderking Thank you! I got the game to work - apparently it gets really confused when the game tries to play with quad CPUs. Now it works fine - I just have to get the cutscenes to play. Really loving the game so far, though! It's been so long since I've been able to play them.

  • The best part is... the fear and helplessness in Garret's last remaining eye. It's really intense and reminds that protagonist is not a kind of superhero or shit like that. He's good at his job, but nobody can be prepared for a surprise like that.

  • @yogsagot No you, and most people here, miss the point. The point is that garret was arrogant and foolish, he was trained to see it coming, and he was left glyphs all over the place by the keepers warning him (the quotes in the cutscenes are the glyphs left for him, as artemis says at the end of the game, and garret only realizes are prophecy after the end of thief 2). It's even evident in the earlier cutscene, when vines grow all around garrets legs. He ignores it out of greed and arrogance.

  • 1:02 to 1:18

Garrett: "Well now...what have we here....oof! ...aw shit...that was misleading"

  • Boże, człowiek jest sobie uczciwym złodziejem, a tu szatan wyrywa ci oko...

PS. Czy Trickster nie przypomina wam Waldemara Pawlaka?? Obydwoje stoją na czele wiejskich kultów, dzierżą niepodzielną władzę i chcą powrotu i utrzymania "starych dobrych metod".

  • Thief Dark Project Good

  • I miss quality like this No movie, game, - whatever - have quality that compare with this series. This game had the perfect blend of humour (but not too much to kill the mood), perfect amount of horror, (nothing has scared me like the Thief series. Nothing.), it had character developement and believable characters, it had the most killer plot in any story. Utterly superb. I hope they have this game in the afterlife. I'ma play it like mad.

  • constantine is such an asshole, its like all that for nothing

  • from all games i've played, this was THE cutscene when i'm actually really virtually pissed off. boy that was ~weird~

  • I hate the pagan scum both IRL and in the game

    go hammerites!

  • They don't make them like they used to.

  • This is the best cutscene in the history of anything, ever. End of story.

    SO epic.

  • @kglaser11 AGREE!

  • Thief 2 is my favorite game of all time.

Thief: TDP is a close second.

I have a deep love for this amazing game. <3

  • @kglaser11 Nono ! Thief 1 is more classical and way much better! I liked the beginning of Thief 2 but when the robots came later in the game all that changed!

  • Ouuuch, eye.

  • you know, if they just pay him, they could have succeed in their plans.

  • This game was terrifying and beautiful. I miss games this good.

  • In my opinion, french voices are better in this scene !

  • I can only Thief 3 because Thief 1 and 2 won't work :( I wish I could play it now lol

  • DAMN. I remember the first time i saw this cutscene, the background voices still give me nightmares.

  • This part for me brought the game to a Whole. Nother. Level.

  • This is the game that should've ended all discussions as to whether video games should be considered works of art! I dare anyone who hath played it to say otherwise!

  • Watching this actually brings tears to my eyes!

  • They don't make 'em like they used to...

  • Constantine's mansion used to creep me out (and still does every time I play through it), but this cutscene was the first one ever to REALLY make me shiver ...

  • 2:05 they manage to scare the shit out of Garrett. Omg, I remember when I was playing this game for the first time, I couldn't believe this scene

  • I pity anyone who watches this without first playing through the game up to this point.

I figured Constantine was some kind of oddball wizard from running around his wonky house, but this scene was a real surprise.

I hope they go back to these kind of cutscenes for Thi4f.

  • God damn trickster god, Always stealing eye balls for crazy world domination plans.

  • @ReadyRave yeah well it only looks like world domination but actually isn't the Trickster himself is a deep thinker (he knew that the events that take place in the Metal Age would certainly come true) but his downfall is that he doesn't think through a plan which means his mind is also Chaotic you see that when you enter the Maw (last level) which well it look's like represents the mind of it's master (in Thief the Maw looks different because it's in control of Victoria).

  • The voice acting in this game is amazing. And so is the art, gameplay, etc too! Best game series of all time on my list.

  • so many elements of this game had me on the edge..those death knights that make that haunting sound as they chase you. i hated the way garret died his death sound was so brutal..lol. man..good times.

  • this is my favorite pc game of all time hands down. i never played a game such as thief that got me so sucked into it. i mean i played the demo and after the demo i went on a hunt to buy retail and man i searched everywhere until i was able to find it. i wish i still had the box set. :( i threw it away trying to be a good christian what on earth was i thinking?!! still have the cd its just scratched all up. but damn they dont make em like this anymore.

  • @kidvicemusic Oh damn, I wasn't the only one who threw the box for the same reason! LOL your post made me smile. This game is a work of art, this and it's sequel, The Metal Age. I hope Thi4f will be as artsy and revolutionary as this was.

  • This cutscene is something so terrifying never seen in other cutscenes.

  • the level for this game is so scary its almost hard to play but its awesome

  • love it love it love

  • This game was epic when it was released most games now are dumbed down crap with not substance at all,

  • Awesome cutscene. The dialogue is very well done.

  • Constantine's "LOOK AT ME" is impressive.

And garrett's scream too. It's a terror scream.

  • I don't much like how the custcenes are done in Thief. I barely understood what was going on when they both transformed. It took multiple viewings and some help from the Internet to understand what they were saying.

  • So that's why he has mechanical eye in deadly shadows.

  • God I miss those PC games of the late 90's, everything jumped up so quickly. From Doom to Duke Nukem to Quake to this and System Shock 2 and Deus Ex. Don't get me wrong, there are still good games nowadays, but just the leaps everything was taking back then was astounding.

  • It was my first game ive played on PC... Good times :))

  • ooo...oOOOh at 1:22 !

That scene freaked me when I was a kid @_X

  • i used to think she was hot. damn, i played this game so long ago. still one of my favourites

  • What a tease. She pulls out his eye and doesn't even show him tits.

  • he sees them later in Thief 2.

  • I always loved the art style from the chapter intros... great game.

Currently trying to find a torrent because I lost my copy of TDP :C

  • i remember this game. i used to watch my dad play it. I just realized that i was 6 years old at the time. Great game brings back alot of memories.

  • COMES BACK SCREAMING CRYING LAUGHING! Glory to the Woodsie Lord!

  • can anyone resume me the story of the first and second thief please???thanks

  • I recommending watching the custcenes in order from both games..

  • i already watched them....thanks anyway

  • Rocksie Hell!

  • SCARING AS HELL! O_O

  • Amazing scene. I love the animation style used in the Thief series. This scene was just very powerful because it is the only time you see Garrett so afraid.

  • Can anyone helpe me and tape here the spech of this cutscene?

I'm spanish and It's hard for me to undertand what they are saying. Especially when the voice is distorted

  • If a studio does ever end of making a Thief film, I think they should simply use the animation style used in the games, albeit more advanced. Sure, it wouldn't have as much mass appeal, but it would look unique. Plus, all of the characters could possibly retain their voices, so you wouldn't have to worry about actors and whether or not they properly portray their character.

  • Man, I was so aftaid of the Escape level... I am not really afraid of spiders in real life, but those spiders were so scary in this game :( Everytime they noticed me and wanted to eat me I almost had to quit the game... Sounds very stupid and it's just a game, but they were really terrifying. :(

Great voice acting by Constantine and Garrett. :)

  • Probably one of the most terrifying scenes in a video game. I was horrified the first time I viewed this.

  • When you are sittin in a dark shed in the cursed city, hearing the zombies moaning outside, cant see anything because the shed is completely dark, and you are hiding in the darkest corner... Then suddenly the zombie appears right in front of you :O........... If you are in a dark corner, normal guards can't see you even if they are touching you and looking at you... But for some reason, that zombie saw me...

  • Trickster got what he deserved at the end, fucked with a wrong Thief!!!

  • poor Garrett...

  • You if like thief you'd like Dark Messiah which was inspired by the thief series.

  • It was inspired most by the Lord Of The Rings, not Thief. Anyway very good game.

  • @PLATOON72 Thief came out WELL before the lord of the rings movies, live you talking 1999 here k?

  • @OddeyeDL I meant Dark Messiah.... -_- Read two posts before...

  • Personally, i love all of the thief games, i mean the graphics-blown away, they may not be that good now but you don't by a game for good graphics, though that may be a factor if you do.The gameplay is heart-pumping,if you agree with me reply to this comment

  • Word.

  • I only played thief 3 so far, can't get the old ones working. But man I love it, best stealth game out there.

  • I agree!

Chilling sound effects from example, the haunt.

And music is perfectly moody, and original in a way, even if it isnt very melodic, and just ambient.

  • i agree actually its a great game and the graphics dont bother me but i swear to god i shit my pants on the second level :D

  • @dannana113 i used to be obsessed with this game as a kid, though i was always too scared to play it. the catacombs and the old city church gave me nightmares. like literally

  • Epic scene! It came as a shock too.

  • legend.

  • i hate them both. but they got what they deserved :)

  • evil evil evil. This cutscene still gives me the goose bumps. But this is why I love this game!

If you do love Thief as much as me, sign this petition.

petitiononline. com/ mod_perl/ signed. cgi? ThiefSrc

    (REMOVE ALL THE SPACES)

  • Been looking for this cutscene.

Seven years since I played it but still one of my favourite games of all time. The atmosphere was great, the "return to the cathedral" episode was about the most terrifying thing I ever played.

And this cutscene where Constantine becomes the Trickster, class

"I am the Jacksberry and the honeymaker"

Aargh!! theres a spider on me face !!

  • Amazing game! Just got it to work on my computer! Gonna be playing it right now.

Would be nice to see this as a real triology as already written.

  • i tried that it was really fun unti i got into the mine and the damn zombies just ruined the whole stealth thing...they see you anywhere you are and they dont die

  • Not true. The zombies, haunts, and apparitions cannot see you any better than normal guards or any other AI can. You have to pay attention to your light gem. Also, two overhead sword attacks will take down a zombie. (Though it'll get back up if you get close again.) Luckily, they're quite slow and don't pose much of a threat, to be honest. You can always just run around them without hiding at all.

  • I can never forget this scene, great artwork (ink on parchment) and storytelling from one of the best games of the 90s.

  • What is the name of this tipe of animation work????

  • Art

  • p[oor garret i hte the trickster.

  • BOW TO THE WOODSIE LORD, AND OFFER UP YOUR FLESH EYE SO THAT HIS EYE OF STONE MAY SEE, MANFOOL!

I love this cutscene. The only one where you get to see the Woodsie lord in his full glory!

    DEATH TO THEM HAMMERFOOLS!

    ALL HAIL THE WOODSIE LORD!

  • Man, I remember this part. It really caught me off guard, but I still love it.

  • @TheDreadedGirlGamer i know. i tried to get this game to run on my ancient athlon3200 w winxp but no way. i almost cried!! but yes, it was just another job for garrett... then these clients turned into friggin monsters of legend!!waaargghhhh!!!! i wanna play thief again!! waaarghhh!!!! damn geforce card wont let me!!!

  • @narred But it´s possible to properly run this game on new machines. I´m playing it on Vista, with new machine. Just go to ttlg.com forums, google out "ttlg thief vista (or whatever OS you are using)" and carefully read through. There is even special program called "Tafferpatcher" which helps you to optimize this game for new machines+ adds HD resolutions :)

  • @Tarhiel appreciate the advice, m8, but i seriously tried everything, even using ancient grfx card drivers from 1998, but i could not get any sound or get past the intro screen. v sad.

  • The first and only time Garrett is truly under the circumstances...

When I first saw Constantine, I knew there was something wrong... the wine spreading in vines, the plan to prove Garrett's mastery by making him stealing his sword...

This cutscene is excellent... so... deranged, hahahaha. D.R.

  • i would really like to see a thief movie but only if it is done right. the music, art, atmosphere, and characters are awesome.

  • Thanks 4 buying me fallout for christmas ambrosia! It looks the dog's bollocks. :D :D

  • nnn devonshire custurd

  • i remember when i got thief gold when i was about 13, i was blown away. the only other game i got into alot other than thief gold and thief 2 is metal gear solid. it is so much more than a game, and im not really into games but the story was fantastic, the character's are great too, and the look of the cutscenes and the art work, its so much more than a game. I would love to see a decent movie made, i see adrien brody as garrett, nicole kidman as victoria n anthony hopkins as the trickster :)

  • guillmero del toro to direct a trilogy

    Stephen Russell - Garrett

    Rebecca Romijn Stamos - Viktoria

    John Malkovich - Karras

    Jeremy Irons - inspector Drept

    Brian Cox - Constantine

    Cary Elwes - Sherriff Truart

also: Basso the box man, Head Keeper, Gamall

  • I agree with you on it all apart from Cary Elwes, that would be like a comedy, and the real life garratt voice guy would be a big no no, critics would laugh to death using the garrett voice for the real life actor in a movie.

  • omg thief is awesome, although i dont think thief 2 and deadly shadows get the cred they deserve. Fair enough deadly shadows was a bit like whoa, but thought thief 2 was pretty damn snaz ;)

  • "You will live to see the sprawling GLORY OF IT!"

    Great line.

  • Poor Garret! That had to hurt and he didn't even scream!

  • he did scream but it was muffled

  • What a stellar game, probably one of my favorite three games of all time.

  • Well, later events was simply "eye for an eye" XD

  • Haven't played Thief for maybe 5+ years now and I miss it so much! It still is one of the best games I have played today. Like thegreatP23 said, I love the art they use in their cutscenes, rather than 3D models and such as is always used today. Makes it look more mysterious and spooky.

  • Okay, "still one of the best games I've played till this day", if that's better for you. You probably know what I meant anyway.

  • you're demanding dude :P

  • obtuse much?

  • @Fuzhark oh yeh. i rem playinng this game 10-11 times and never got bored with it. such wonderfully atmospheric cut scenes, the patient tactical gameplay, the eloquent concepts and story. friggin beautiful piece of software. that goes for thief2 and even thief 3.

  • guiellermero del toro should make the thief trilogy into 3 movies, it would be perfect.

  • Oh yeah that'd be awesome.

  • What does the trickster say in his long speech...Ive watched this over and over again wondering, what he says...ive even tried looking online somewheres...but nothing

  • Viktoria: Bow to the Woodsie Lord, and offer up your flesheye so that his Eye

    of Stone may see, Manfool!

Viktoria: Bids he then the spruces to singer him an anthems! And the Woodsie

Lord binders them fleshes to stone!

Trickster: Did you think those ancient phrases were mere words, Manfool? Look

    at me!

Trickster: *I* am The Woodsie Lord, The Trickster of legend!

Trickster: If you be thirsty, fleshthing, drink of me.

  • Trickster: If you be hungry, then feed for I am the honeymaker, and the jacksberry!

Viktoria: He am the leaf that feeders on the fleshed ones. Thems that calls themselves Builders and wielded up a hammers against

    him!

Trickster: My poor Mister Garrett, you will not live to SEE the sprawling glory of it! Your sacrifice is not yet complete! Mine lilacs and mine thistleaids must feeds, and I?

  • I think might be "jokester bee" rather than "jacksberry". At least that one way I've seen it written before.

  • Trickster: Stands He then in the greens and festered Maw and speeds He out his judgements upon the weeps and writhing manfools!

  • EPIC. I was 13 when I played this and this movie still sends shivers down my spine, Looking glass please return... your presence in this world hinted an wonderful future for games. were games could be ... art..

  • i like the shillohuette animation a lot more than the animated pics, they look so fucking real. she's a great artist. i love this game, one of my fvorites. Garret is sic. the chick of the plants is dark and interesting. and the trickster was way crazy for a boss. quite original.

  • poor Garett, those damn treehuggers! x_O

  • Lol! that was funny

  • Garrett always has differ styles of animation looks...he looks bulky when putting the eye of stone down, compared to the real actor...then you get Garrett putting in his mech eye in The Metal Age, when the keepers came a knock knock knocking on Garrett`s door.

  • rofl! garrett looks like a statue when hes staring at viktoria when her clothes are gone.

"WHOA!" "YOUR HOT!.... wanna go out someti.. OW!! MY EYE!

  • poor garret..:(

  • OH NOES! NOT MY GER-GER! I was so sad when he got his eye ripped out. I couldn't watch it this time around. It's pains me...

  • ... Ger Ger?

    XD

  • Yeah, it's my personal nickname for Garrett. I think it sounds cute. He's so rough that he needed a cute nickname! XD

  • i hope ur not a dude

  • Nope, I'm a girl all the way!^^

  • the first time I saw this cutscene, I was all like:"FREAK OUT!". never saw that coming at first.

  • "i was like 9 when i saw this and it scared the shit out of me"

dude you're 31. That means you were in your early 20's at least when you saw this. Don't say stupid shit.

  • lol owned

  • lol dude no one puts their real info online, i sure as hell put a random date when i sign up on sites, im not giving out my real info. he probably didnt either.

  • Amazing cutscenes from Thief. I love how they never used real actors. The dark cartoonish feel makes it look so awesome, like a dark comic. If they make another Thief I hope they keep this kind of work.

  • They did mix in real actors. Any time a character is depicted in full silhouette, that's a human actor. You can see a good example of the technique in this video at around 30 seconds in, when Garrett has his back to the camera.

  • I love Garrett ♥

  • I like Constantine's voice!

  • having your eye ripped out has got to hurt

  • When does part 4 come????

  • Damn, you just gotta give mad respect to Garrett. I mean come on after all the shit he's dealt with and the fact that he is still kicking it just goes to show the mans got it were it counts.

  • Woot! Preach it, brother!

  • this its an invitation for tose wo like thief the dark project....please comentme about this extraordinary game....my mail its:madmaniaco16@hotmail...please tallktome in inglish and epanish......thank eidos for this game

  • i was like 9 when i saw this and it scared the shit out of me

  • That's how he gets that Mechanical eye in Thief 3?

    Wow that's real cool.

  • Garret recieves the eye already in this game its with him the whole second game and the third

  • Well, since I never considered Deadly Shadows to be worthwhile and never finished it (The Cradle however, was pure genius), I don't consider Thief to be finished. In fact, to me it remains wide open.

  • EXACTLY, they should just forget deadly shadows ( although dumbed down , it had its merits, like the cradle, and introducing garret to kiddos),and just pick up from that line in the end of metal age... " TELL ME " oh boy, somebody gotta reunite those looking glass dudes and make thief 3... who cares about sales? just make another masterpiece...

  • Dudes!!! Rumor has it that Bethesda might be taking on THIEF!

  • I really doubt it. Thief: DS pretty much wrapped up the series, so any new games would involve a very different story. The trickster is dead, so is Vicky, the Mechanists are disbanded and the Keepers are powerless. What is left to do?

  • you know that little girl at the last cut scene in Thief:DS that tries to pickpocket Garret? the game might be about her.

  • Well, I hope not. A Thief 4 without Garrett? Just wouldn't be that good... I hope Eidos Montreal will start working on this next year, together with Deus Ex 3. :) That would be cool.

Oh, and I liked Thief 3 too and it left the story wide open, they can go anywhere from that, just don't abandon the Master Thief.

  • well you could explain garrett by the fact that its the first game. And by common sence he didn't yet gained fast reaction. or maybe because he was just freaked out.you don't see the trickster every day.

  • Well maybe you don't see the Trickster everyday, but I do. I go to school with him and he is down right awesome!!!

  • One of the best cutscenes in terms of athmosphere at least. I love the animation technique as well. The only small fault in the thief animations is that the segments that use real actors are somewhat rigid. Also it's somewhat silly here that Garret simply stands immobile for a loong time when two demons suddenly appear before him. Run fool!
