No, that's not what happened. The WATER filled condoms were thrown on the stage during Viscera Eyes. The reason they stopped playing was because Omar's guitar malfunctioned and he smashed it. Common misconception.

Modest Mouse was supposed to play but had to pull out. The Mars Volta took their spot on the main stage, and the crowd was more into top 20 music rather than progressive rock/psychedelic/latin jazz. To make matters worse Omar was experiencing equipment problems, and the person throwing shit on the stage didn't help.

Being from Washington, the state at fault, I was rather surprised when I heard about this incident. The music lovers here are usually receptive, open minded and responsive to all forms of music and musicians. Maybe it was due to the fact they on a bill with bands who have different types of personalities and maturity (or lack) levels. I see a fan of MotorHead doing something like that. A fan of Ozzy? Of course. Were any bands like this on the bill as well? It was EndFest.
Modest Mouse was originally slated before they cancelled, and The Mars Volta became a last minute replacement. You have many in the audience not familiar with their style of music, being pissed about Modest Mouse, and waiting for RHCP to take the stage. Not necessarily the best crowd to play to considering the circumstances.
yeah i was at this show and i was looking forward to RHCP but it just wasnt the right atmosphere for them seeing how they pretty much play continuously and half their songs are in spanish its not a very attractive show to see if you dont know their songs or just dont understand spanish, and i was bummed about no modest mouse, but RHCP was one of the best concerts ive seen and eagles of death metal was cool on the small stage

They were getting pissed off with the people throwing shit, but that wasn't why they stopped playing. Apparently Omar's equipment crapped out on him and there was no quick fix; whether that was coincidence or caused by liquids landing on it is uncertain.
I was seriously at that concert and i will attest to the fact that piss was thrown. Being in the "mosh pit", I too was showered with a healthy dose of the phosphorous rich golden liquid. However I have no Idea why he'd be so mad! Who says no to a good old fashioned golden shower? If you ask me, that lead singer seemed a little close minded and subjective in his views toward urine. I would hope a true artist (especially a so called visionary) would be able to be more accepting of certain liquids.

Look man, I was there. No way some guy took time to piss in a bottle in the pit (or walk around with a bottle of piss.) No containers were allowed in and bottles were sold without caps. After the crowd was insulted by the band for "slam dancing", someone threw garbage and an open bottle of water at them. Just a huge overreaction by the band. Shit; I mean they grew up in a punk/ alternative scene. You think they'd be used to flying debris. Pretentious pussies if you ask me. Just my opinion.

I'm not saying that the band did anything right or wrong, because music isn't always about being polite, but... I guess my point is I can't imagine why anyone would pay to go see a bunch of pretentious wanna-be intellectuals make random unmelodious bloody aural diarrhea in the first place. The fans should thank the band for having mercy and stopping as soon as they did. Damn.
The problem was you had a bunch of fans who wanted their pop sensibilities satisfied by Modest Mouse (who canceled) and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and were not familiar with The Mars Volta. These audience members wanted to sing along to "Under The Bridge" and "Float On" but got progressive rock with songs spanning over 12 minutes in length. Just face it that they were in a state of shock, as they were not prepared or used to this style of music and performance. Many in the audience loved it.

It was not urine. I was there, they took every bottle cap off of every bottle which meant someone had to be walking around with multiple open bottles of urine. Also the kid only threw the water bottles after the lead singer insulted the crowd for being too enthusiastic. And Endfest always has at least a few legit acts (Social D in 2007?). Plus Mars Volta is seriously overrated.
Hahah, if anything they are underrated. Overrated would mean them getting all the airplay and attention that many of those other bands receive at the same festival. If you notice, many of the "popular" and "influential" rock acts are fans of The Mars Volta: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Maynard, Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan, Jack White, Serj Tankian, Tom Morello, John Frusciante, Flea, Warren Haynes, Scott Weiland, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Neil Peart, Rick Wakemen, Damo Suzuki, Henry Rollins, etc.

No, that's not what happened. The WATER filled condoms were thrown on the stage during Viscera Eyes. The reason they stopped playing was because Omar's guitar malfunctioned and he smashed it. Common misconception.

If your at a music festival and there is a band you don't like.. Don't see them, or just watch them and laugh. But don't spoil it for everyone else by throwing urine at the band. Modest Mouse was supposed to play but had to pull out. The Mars Volta took their spot on the main stage, and the crowd was more into top 20 music rather than progressive rock/psychedelic/latin jazz. To make matters worse Omar was experiencing equipment problems, and the person throwing shit on the stage didn't help.

Being from Washington, the state at fault, I was rather surprised when I heard about this incident. The music lovers here are usually receptive, open minded and responsive to all forms of music and musicians. Maybe it was due to the fact they on a bill with bands who have different types of personalities and maturity (or lack) levels. I see a fan of MotorHead doing something like that. A fan of Ozzy? Of course. Were any bands like this on the bill as well? It was EndFest.

Modest Mouse was originally slated before they cancelled, and The Mars Volta became a last minute replacement. You have many in the audience not familiar with their style of music, being pissed about Modest Mouse, and waiting for RHCP to take the stage. Not necessarily the best crowd to play to considering the circumstances.

yeah i was at this show and i was looking forward to RHCP but it just wasnt the right atmosphere for them seeing how they pretty much play continuously and half their songs are in spanish its not a very attractive show to see if you dont know their songs or just dont understand spanish, and i was bummed about no modest mouse, but RHCP was one of the best concerts ive seen and eagles of death metal was cool on the small stage

Their drummer is always great and they can all play their instruments well, but they just noodle on stage most of the time and scream. I was seriously at that concert and i will attest to the fact that piss was thrown. Being in the "mosh pit", I too was showered with a healthy dose of the phosphorous rich golden liquid. However I have no Idea why he'd be so mad! Who says no to a good old fashioned golden shower? If you ask me, that lead singer seemed a little close minded and subjective in his views toward urine. I would hope a true artist (especially a so called visionary) would be able to be more accepting of certain liquids.

Look man, I was there. No way some guy took time to piss in a bottle in the pit (or walk around with a bottle of piss.) No containers were allowed in and bottles were sold without caps. After the crowd was insulted by the band for "slam dancing", someone threw garbage and an open bottle of water at them. Just a huge overreaction by the band. Shit; I mean they grew up in a punk/ alternative scene. You think they'd be used to flying debris. Pretentious pussies if you ask me. Just my opinion.

The problem was you had a bunch of fans who wanted their pop sensibilities satisfied by Modest Mouse (who canceled) and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and were not familiar with The Mars Volta. These audience members wanted to sing along to "Under The Bridge" and "Float On" but got progressive rock with songs spanning over 12 minutes in length. Just face it that they were in a state of shock, as they were not prepared or used to this style of music and performance. Many in the audience loved it.

i am a mv fan but in my opinion they shoud not always blame the whole crowd for what one person does, they did that a lot of times i find that too thin skinned and they would more live up to their music and give a complete picture when they just dont care about some weird indivuals and just rock on

It was not urine. I was there, they took every bottle cap off of every bottle which meant someone had to be walking around with multiple open bottles of urine. Also the kid only threw the water bottles after the lead singer insulted the crowd for being too enthusiastic. And Endfest always has at least a few legit acts (Social D in 2007?). Hahah, if anything they are underrated. Overrated would mean them getting all the airplay and attention that many of those other bands receive at the same festival. If you notice, many of the "popular" and "influential" rock acts are fans of The Mars Volta: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Maynard, Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan, Jack White, Serj Tankian, Tom Morello, John Frusciante, Flea, Warren Haynes, Scott Weiland, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Neil Peart, Rick Wakemen, Damo Suzuki, Henry Rollins, etc.

That makes no sense - not to take sides here (though I am a TMV fan), but saying 'prog rock' has been around for a long time doesn't mean anything, because by definition 'progressive rock' is progressive at whatever time it's made. If you accept it's progressive, then it's different from the older progressive stuff like Pink Floyd, King Crimson and so on. That's what 'progressive' means. :P
