As you probably know, there is a huge variety of ethnicities in New York; so you may hear an italian from the city speak a certian way(like the show "jersey shore"). Also, besides the different accents in the city, upstate (around Buffalo) people may speak like canadians. Mid-state is just completely random, but most accents have the same lazy undertone that requires the least effort to speak.
