I'm totally, completely in love with the notes/tone of voice Johnny uses when he sings "Is that squire on the fire?!?" I LOVE IT!!! Love the movie, all around too, but yeah... I'll quit freaking out now :-D
She is. The character makes a reference to her husband who apparently died some time ago. She was talking to Toby about how much her 'poor, dear Albert' loved to eat.
I dont think anyone is innocent in this film really I think the character of Mrs Lovett is so desperate to be loved by Sweeney she'll do anything to win his affections, hence this song and this idea. I think she is a lonely woman who's having troubles with work and when the man she loved come back she sees it as a chance for him to love her at last
Burton has said that, in addition to just being an adaptation of an amazing musical, he sees this movie as a sort of tribute to the old schlock Hammer Horror movies. That would explain the over the top quality of the blood.
Regardless of the look of the blood, it's a movie about a vengeful lunatic killing anyone who gets close to him and then serving them in pies. So the R makes perfect sense.
I disagree with teatree. Tim Burton doesn't display anyone as innocent. The whole point of the movie/play is that one can't place their sympathies with anyone, becuase basically everyone except Joanna and the guy that likes her does something horrible. In this case, Mrs. Lovett lies to Barker, which pisses both him, and the audience, off. Then, as soon as we start feeling bad for him, he's pulls a meanie and kills her. So, Swenney's right; everyone sucks.
Helena plays against the Lansbury type because she is singing as an ingenue; this is more horrific in a gothic text for Burton because he sees her character as an innocent (see Edward Sc., Corpse Bride)
I think he would sound like Captain Jack Sparrow because he was the actor of that.. character.. Yah. XD Anyway, love the movie and it has great songs though I don't see why it's rated R. '~' PG16 maybe but.. R? Maybe I'm missing something. XD

The best thing to do is ask an adult about to go in to vouche for you the worst they'll do is say no, most adults are pretty down to earth. If your really desperate tell a 18-23 year old that you'll pay for their admitants. Best of luck
haah omg i did that too! But me and my friends are retarded and panicked cause we couldn't find the theatre.. like.. the staff knew what we were trying to do and moved the room lmaos
lol! I panicked too! My sister was like u r sooo stupid! And I was! The theatre was right around the corner! My sister was like "u all most pissed ur pants for nothing!"

Sweeney Todd was FICTIONAL. The story itself can be dated back to the mid-1800's. There have been serial killers in the past, and there have also been some messed-up people who have killed people to cook them and feed them to other people. And there's even a good chance that one of these guys happened to be a barber, but that's only through sheer coincidence and not relative to the story of Sweeney Todd.

the story of specifically mr. sweeney todd was in fact fictional.
But it is very loosely based on real events.

The best thing to do is ask an adult about to go in to vouche for you the worst they'll do is say no, most adults are pretty down to earth. If your really desperate tell a 18-23 year old that you'll pay for their admitants. Best of luck
