  • My friend and I got his autograph 2 wks b/f he died in '74 in Charleston, SC. The "AA" Ch'ton Pirates affiliate were playing and ol' Dizz (as dad called him) was color commentating and, at 70+, selling Purina Dog Chow during 7th Inning Stretch! Dad told me and friend to take our b'balls down under press box stairs and when Dizz finished, he'd come down stairs. He was very nice to us 12 y.o. kids and we said yes sir a lot. He signed 1 each and walked away forever. I still have it, certified.

  • @teller121 Cool story!

  • Dizzy wanted to play for the Yankees.

  • I saw Ole Diz in person at a St. Louis Cardinal game in August 1963. He and Pee Wee Reese were broadcasting the CBS Game Of The Week that Saturday afternoon. They were walking thru the concessions area under the grandstands and walked right infront of me ! Also got a Cardinal rookie's autograph that day. My Dad laughed and said he had never heard of this player. Probably never amount to anything. That rookie was Mike Shannon !

  • @fvilledutchman Great story,dutchman!
