I liked this much better then the scripted battle in the 2nd series. Seems to me all those Earth Andromada class would have completely dominated that battle if it wasn't for the writers.

@Poncho85CA Actually, the Earth Defence Force fleet fared reasonably well against the Comet Empire fleet; it was only when the Comet Empire mothership showed up that they were all pulverized.

This is a cutscene from the PS2 video game released in Japan some time ago. It has nothing to do with the television series, nor is it a "remastered" version. It only exists as a video cutscene in a Yamato space simulation game.

Also, read the earlier comments. This scene is from the japanese PS2 game, and is not available anywhere else.

@Rilurio True, but the crew really makes the ship. Just imagine the crew of the Yamato (the Argo for those of us that watched the American version in the 70's/80's) commanding a dual wave motion gun ship like the Andromeda!!!! Wow!

Oh and the Yamato was "warping" to the battle at the time.

I just found out the other day about a live action movie that's due for release in coming months. If true, I'm hoping they'll release it in the States. I've been a fan of the series since I caught my first episode in the late 1970s, and I'd love to see it make a big-screen debut here.

CGI yes. But only to inhance the ANIME. The look of 'moving' anime is what is attractive about most anime shows. As for the American edit, I would use the original dialogue(cleaned up with todays technology, of course) and bring back the acters to correct the sometimes out-right wierd dialogue-->Jordy "Star, Please..."then suddenly is speaking plroudly & too much like a peanuts character, "I can't wait for MY brother, blah, blah,blah..." I'm just speculating should an english tranlation happen.

They really, really, really need to do an updated version of the series to take advantage of the latest CGI animation technologies and techniques, as well as slip in some really cool Earth Defense Force battleships based upon some other equally famous dreadnoughts from history... A lot of Andomeda style ships in the new 2009 Rebirth movie. Basically half the Earth Defense Fleet is Andromeda types and the other half is the main battleship type (Borodino as it is called in some places), with a special flagship (Blue Noah) and Yamato. Upgraded versons of course.

outstanding job-but didn't Andromeda lure the comet empire's fleet into the ice rings of Saturn to disable their flame guns and then take their fleet out with the shock cannons? I only remember them firing wave motion guns to dissipate the "comet" around the comet empire.

I wish they had ended it like that. Andromeda only fires its wave motion gun once in the series, and is promptly destroyed.  It doesn't seem right. Captain Giddeon was a great commander he should've survived to fight another day.
