im saving for a macaw.. which may take up to a year or so depending how much i save but my dad is telling me that im not allowed to get it because people will try and break in to the house to steal it... which isn't fair cause im willing to put all my money and time on this bird. Have you ever thought about people stealing him/her or cause yeah i just want like advice and stuff, you have a wonderfull funny parrot, which i hopee to own one day aswelll ^.^

Someone here in town used to have a parrot and he taught it to yell "GET THE FUCK OUT!" when ever anyone who didn't live in the household enter the house... First time I went into that house, it scared the crap out of me!

I also have a blue and gold macaw. He's 17. He only likes me and tries biting everyone else. They are a one person bird. Also, if he does not get attention he screams. It is very ear piercing. I do not recommend unless you have the time and commitment.

@mardar89 I dont feel that Macaws are a one person bird. My Macaw Ozzy is 4 yrs old and he gets along with everyone in my family including my two dogs, a 6yr old min-pin and a1yr old boxer. I even have brought Ozzy to school for my son's show and tell, and everyone in his classroom got to pet him and was enven showing off.

@mardar89 Yes they are a commitment for life but its like kids, they become one of them I love Ozzy just as much as my kids. I do reccomend Blue & Gold Macaws they are little clowns and like everything else in life you have to work with them!

It all depends on how you raise them, if they're raised around a lot of people interacting with them, they will be a great social bird! I've found, given the right owner, Macaws bite less than most cockatoos!!

But, every bird is different, sometimes no matter how well risen, Macaws can still be mean little guys.

Before I get another Macaw, I'm volunteering at a bird rescue shelter, after I bond with a specific Macaw there I'll know if he's good with other people, and I'll rescue him.

Yours is a one person bird... mine is 12 and will only dislike and attack uneasy people, plays with my 2 dogs and 2 cats. If someone new stares him down and approach him like their scared they will likely loose a chunk of flesh, same as a dog would... He is free to fly around the house and outside he always finds something to play with, he doesint need attention, people say their like 6 year old children i think thats bs

We try not to curse infront of him just like the kids, as you know they are little sponges. Ozzy is three and he says a lot ,we love him so much we could not see our life with out him they are great birds. thats one advice a give you, spent a lot of time with him......

Thats one thing about these birds they are much better off in a human world then in the rain forest. They get all the right things they need and have a blast in front of people. They don't get sad or to much stressed like reptiles and other animals they make the best out of what they got and rely on the owner to keep him happy. And alot of the owners of these birds do thats why they do so good.
