Is Geo Synthezizer an program or a whole new (digital) instrument?

I am a drummer, but when I see those videos, I wanna learn how to play the stuff he is presenting!

@DrumEagle It's a normal $10 app for iPhone or iPad, and not a special hardware appliance if that is what you are wondering. It runs on 4th gen iPod touch, iPhone4, iPad1, and iPad2. Search Google and YouTube for "Geo Synthesizer", and there's a lot of people making videos. (I have like 40 videos myself..., many from jcrudess, mvpadrini, etc...) I put some simple tutorials on twitter as rrr00bb.

@bleh151 I tested quite a bit with a 4th Gen iPod touch (which is basically an iPhone 4 without the phone radio as far as I know). it requires iOS4.2.

@bleh151 by the way... just so you don't accidentally buy for a device you don't have... buy it from your iPod Touch 4th Gen (it was new in September 2010, compare with wikipedia iPod picture if you are unsure). it's actually not much less playable than the iPad once you learn the octave rounding and set up the screen as a 5x3 grid (3 strings 5 frets) of notes. see wizdommusic web site, which has a tutorial and tablature link in the manual.

@bleh151 the 4th Gen iPod touch is the one with FaceTime. I use it on my daughter's iPod touch all the time. I think if you buy it from your 4th Gen iPod it won't even show up in the store if you have an incompatible one.

@rojomeansred believe it or not, fast really playing on this instrument is quite ordinary. look at independent app reviewers, casually shredding on it. full ten-finger fingertapping, not having to sync a pick/fret hand, and octave rounding contribute to this. and the fretless capability adds a whole new dimension of virtuoso potential as well.

How do you do up and down in pitch without pressing any buttons like on Morphwiz 1:28

@ArranProductionz the feature is "octave rounding". it knows what note you pressed before and are pressing now. it figures out which octave is closer, and changes the octave switch to keep the note as close as possible. the first consequence is that it makes arpeggios and scales trivial. there are no intervals larger than a fourth, and you play ghost notes to reach wider intervals; especially to octave switch.

@MMBravi that's correct. When you are playing fast, you actually can't read the letter notes; but navigate more by shape. So if you pick a scale with sharps or flats, the picked sharp/flat notes are blue. This is done so that you can simultaneously show the current scale pattern and show the piano pattern in an absolute sense.
