  • I want a pink jumpsuit all of a sudden :)

  • I dont know what it is but when hes walking around NY and those people are kissing him and shit is so RAD !!!!!.What a fuckin Star!!..So Money!!

  • hankyouThankYouTHANK-YOU! MAN this takes me back; Rushing home after school to watch "Video Concert Hall" on USA network, ahh, those innocent, pre-MTV days of yore!

  • I heard that David Bowey found a Mars bar inside Mike Jagger? is this correct? Why was he looking inside Mike Jagger? Mike Jagger would turn over in his grave if he knew this was being thought about him and many of the other beetles are unhappy about this too. Please these people need to think before they speek.

  • @CrubbDaTubb LMFAO

I don't know what he was looking for , we should ask him !

"Mike Jagger would turn over in his grave"

    --'

  • Wow, exploding dj equipment at 2:38! Talk about special fx.

  • why are you so goodlooking ?

  • Love this song but he looks like an old lady in that outfit. sorry

  • @apples13able ; hey there...easy...I had a pair of purple overalls just like those in the late 70's (DB rocks his pink ones though - how can he look better in just about anything?!!!)

  • OK I KNOW DAMN IT

  • this is a pretty sexy video

  • this video is so awesome and typical coming from bowie.the way he is walking like nothing can stop him like he was saying "im the bloody dj and u cant do a fuck to stop me".bowie is just a legend and im not talking about ziggy stardust.his personality is special

  • fantastic video!! BOWIE GENIUS

  • for anyone who has seen the rocky horror picture show please tell me he looks exactly like dr. frank-n-furter from 1:38 to 1:41 like holy shit.

  • Bowie is tha muthafrikkin' man....woman.

  • bowie is too cool

  • This is the first time I ever saw David Bowie! I was 9 that year! He left such an impression on me and I've been a fan ever since! When I think of Bowie, this song and the image of this video is the first thing to come to mind.

  • I was 13 and I have loved this man ever since..lol. I spent the entire 80's following Bowie and trying so hard to look like him etc.

  • I can listen to these guitar parts over and over, what a awesome way to orchestrate the electric guitar with synthesizers.Incredible song, doesn't get old at all.

  • He's so cute

  • David Bowie is a fuckin' musical genius.

He is a DJ, and he's got believers believing him!

  • @Cyberium definately so true..................

  • My daughter wants to know what the big black circle things are.

  • @jonlanderman wow, tell her vinyl always sounds better

  • @jonlanderman /tell her those are the original ipods

  • Truly awesome song, always loved it!

  • Was this filmed in Berlin?

  • new york by the look of it,although im sure theres someone who can correct me :)

  • It was filmed in London, I believe.

  • Thats new york, baby..

  • no, thats london

  • no shit..wow!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, that was the reason I thought of Berlin. I had the idea that Bowie was non-stop there.

But Young Americans wasn't part of the Berin tri-logy, right? Station to Station, perhaps, sound-wise. But Bowie counted Low, ''Heroes'' & Lodger to the trilogy.

  • @Reint25 oops

  • haha, wrong. the berlin trilogy was low, heroes and lodger

  • Berlin trilogy was Low, Lodger and Heroes. :)

  • @aleksoraven The Berling trilogy was Station to Station, Heroes and Lodgers

  • @CrubbDaTubb I don't think so! :) )The Berlin Trilogy is a series of David Bowie albums recorded in collaboration with Brian Eno in the 1970s. The three albums are Low, "Heroes" and Lodger. (Wikipedia)

  • @aleksoraven everyone knows wikipedia gets it rong! Just have a read of some books for a change. Bowie wrote Berlin with Lou Reeds and it is not about three albums, actually its on CD!

  • @CrubbDaTubb Not Berlin album, Berlin TRILOGY. :) Because the albums are made in Bowie' s Berlin era. I know Wikipedia is not always right but... :) Google it. Berlin Trilogy = Heroes, Low and Lodger! :)

  • Great tune!

  • this video reminds of "im still havent found what im looking for" by U2....the parts where bowie walks down the street...isnt it?

  • I've got believers!?

  • If I was Bowie, I would have slapped the guy who touched his face at about 1:20.

  • 3:32

I love him when he's desperate.

  • This song is awsome and reminds me of my brother who played the hell out of David, The Cars, Elivs Costello and many others back when we were growing up in Houston, TX way back when I was in 8th grade. Thank you Jimi my only brother! He would play songs over and over and over and this was one of them.

  • David is sexy!

  • Seen him over 40 times since 1974 met him twice...I asked him about this tune and it was shot in ...guess?

Spain outside one of the gay clubs...

    Luv on ya,

    G

  • ohhh

so thats why that boy started eating his face? 1:34

  • Great story.

  • I dont understand why some people hate on this video its great.....Hey I just picked up the cell tone too at TheSickestTones . com .........

  • first, i love love love bowie but ... this sounds like terrible talking heads (lol i also love talking heads) but this mash up sound is, well, dreadful.

  • 2:37 wtf?! :)

  • I know right? I actually kind of wanted to laugh, it just seems so hilariously out of place.

  • ^^^^^@ hotbarbecue

  • Yeah same here!! DJ is a TOP tune!! but I was one of them B4 who was'nt very keen on it!! but after a few litsens I lov it, out of the berlin Trilogy I did't like LODGER either but can't live without it now, the distroted Guitar on this track is mantal!! plus this is my fave BOWIE video!!! ps I need that ringtone!!

  • I'ts brilliant, I discovered it only tonight on a documentary about a serial killer, (Nielsen) great track, instantly hooked.

  • good song!

  • Se quiere parecer a mi!

  • pure bliss...

  • great song great vid great outfit great hair great voice great artist great lyrics David Bowie

    :)

  • amazing video, I love the smoke explosions, really magical.

  • HAHA! I like that he lets the guy kiss him for like half a minute, but when the girl runs up and does the same thing he pushes her aside. :)

  • I mean David is not ugly.

  • Yeah, I like that part too. I also love it when he grabs the middle-aged woman in the blue sweater who obviously has NO idea who he is or what's going on!

  • Great trenchcoat , great hair , really nice make up...And firstly : FANTASTIC SONG AND WONDERFUL VIDEO !!! I love Bowie. Stll the best forever , even if he won't record anything new anymore. Bowie rules!c

  • LOVE this song and video, thanks for uploading it!

  • I forgot about this song and video! Thanks!

  • Wow this is by far one of the greatest songs i have ever heard!

    David Bowie is the best!

    10/10

    :]]

  • Also one of my favorites. Sadly, too little known. Way underrated - as is the video, whcih is also wonderful.

  • i liked the quaint but cool video effect bit with the mirror

  • Excellent Track, Thanks Sarah for sharing & thanks Galgo23 for posting.

  • see

    now only bowie can

    wear a bloody gas mask

    and pull it off

  • he is a hero.

but what the fuck is he wearing...

  • Freaky ass jumpsuit of sorts. Zappa is wearing the same one, in fuschia, in the 1982 Palladium show footage that is on this site. Maybe it was a great fashion accomplishment by the same cat that designed the keyboard necktie?

  • 0:39 I like when he talks into the headphones. haha

  • lol at 0:28

  • good song

  • My #1 favorite Bowie! Pure genius!

  • The guy at 1:33 was lucky, he got to kiss him more than the girl did!

    not fair! XD

  • His he using an old BSR deck with a Stanton Cartridge?

  • inside the gatefold of the LODGER album is a picture of water shooting out of a sink...if that is suppose to mean something then what does it mean?

  • Most hilarious video ever in the history of ever. <3

  • i think the killers took the idea of walking down the street with a bunch of people from this video for their uk version of mv for 'all these things that i've done'. does anyone think so too? both are awesome, in my opinion.

  • yeah and the breathing tehniques ;) love em all

  • oh and listen to "queen bitch" for mr brightside lyrics ;)

  • Who directed that video? It was awful.

The footage in the street was interesting and original(a Bowie trait) and the music is WONDERFUL but his videos are terrible.

Mime fucking ruined him just as it does any man foolish enough to dabble in it.

  • Yeah, his videos are so terrible that they are currently part of an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art. Thurston Moore just hosted an evening of Bowie's best video, DJ being one of the works screened. Whose a better arbiter of taste? tony9L9L or MOMA?

  • The Museum Of Modern Art is full of shit (Beuys, Jasper Johns, Koons, Rothko etc etc etc etc etc)so I am afraid you've shot yourself in the foot with that argument.

It's a shame that your critical powers are warped by your unquestioning blind fawning.

Accept the truth= David is a genius but he's not a dancer (and he does shit videos).

It's not his fault, people who mess around with mime are often badly damaged by the experience.

  • You obviously are a great expert on modern art. I am most impressed.

  • Oh ....do I detect a hint of queenish sarcasm?

    I'm cut to the core.

  • No, I am most impressed. Really.

  • Oh I am no different from any other extremely handsome, cultured, witty and charismatic David Bowie fan.

  • Common man, you obsviously don't understand. This is a bit weird and ridiculous too, but the point it's that it's FUNNY. You don't have to take it too seriously, you know, it's just David messing around and making fun of himself and all the DJs. I find it hilarious, and even a bit arty in some kind of freaky way. Just don't be too serious. You don't necesseraly have to produce a dramatic video with allusions to litterature and loads of blood. Sometimes you can just have fun. :)

  • I have a host of memories of the first time I saw this one on 'Midnight Special'. I had led a sheltered life and taken too many Midol! I was like...ohmygod...I think this opened my eyes very wide and I never shut them again!

  • ich bin froh dass ich damals nicht gelebt habe.

  • Was this song released in 1980, on Scary monsters? This was definately B4 MTV, so Bowie had a multitude of ready videos. He was always ahead of his time. I think of him as an absolute genius! I remember on 120 minutes they used to show obscure old Videos, this was one of them. And what about that guy kissing Bowie on the street? i wonder if that was a candid moment. Bowie was bi-sexual at that time. He's married to IMAN ("listen to IMAN!") , so he's straight now. Who knows??

  • DJ was on Lodger, 1979.

  • 1:36

    *drool*

  • ...I am a dj, I am what I play....

  • hes spray painting his initials.. hes a dj... david jones

  • Meant to give you a thumbs up.

  • hey man. im naked!!

    pew pew pew nv

  • Woaw ... Impressive ^^' I love that song héhé

  • omg, I heard this on the radio years ago, and could have sworn it was the talking heads! It sounds so much like their style!

  • great,,muito bom,,,,i am a dj toooooo...

  • I love it

  • the drum fill at 2:52 was amazing!

  • His Berlin Trio is on constant rotation on my turntable(sic), iPod, computer....whatever

  • i like this Bowie´s rare fashion style!

  • I like so much this Bowie´s rare fashion!

  • don't forget to inhale sssssssssssssssssssss

  • I have seriously been watching this video everyday at least once

  • I always play this on my ipod!!!!!

  • This song says a lot about the pre-MTV days. I remember listening, late into the night, to everything the DJ said, to the songs he/she played. A radio DJ used to mean something. This song commenerates that time past. Yeah, "I got believers believing in me"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I totally agree with you. Pre-MTV, pre-BS, post-TVC15.

  • see history above

  • I have the coat.

    A long history .

  • I want to know more

  • I love him so much!

  • bowie might have been able to figure out his sexuality much earlier if he'd watched the footage of this vid a few times over of him being kissed by the gent and then being kissed by the girl... compare his reactions, hes clearly enjoying being kissed by the girl a lot more!

  • I thought the opposite.

  • Really? I just cant see that at all...i guess we all see different things...its just he turned out to be straight afterall & as said to me it sorta looks like hes kinda not really going with the guy kiss in the vid but when the girl kisses him he just looks like he totally relaxes & wants more...but anyway maybe im just a bit sad to have put so much effort into forming a strong opinion about it :L but i couldnt help it - bowies so beautiful as u know!...btw luv the pic of him on your background

  • After ny post. I looked again. And he did relax a bit when the girl kissed him.

  • It might just be that he wasn't attracted to the guy that he was to kiss in the video but he was at least somewhat attracted to the girl? It's entirely possible that it could be the specific people, not their gender. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

  • The way it looked to me was, he pushed the girl away. And the guy, he kind of went with it. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

  • My impression that it's a NYC street where anything goes while filming. He doesn't know anyone of these people and the two black guys were just hogging the limelight with Bowie being the nice guy not telling them to back off a bit.

  • huh?

  • I don't think he's ugly. He is funny as hell tho.

  • he is the cat's whiskers

  • He is cute and funny. They don't make em like that no more.

  • yep.

  • I love this guy. He is as old as my mom but I think he is so cute, smart, and straightfoward. Did you ever see pics of his son? He is cute and a doctor of Philosophy too.

  • he is as old as my grandmother haha but i'm in love with him. as you said, he is smart, talented, has always been ahead of his time, and as if it wasn't enough, he's handsome <3

  • He is. How old are you? I am 43 and even my 17 year old daughter likes him and so does my mom who is 63!!! My three other cuties died, unfortunately, Dennis Wison from the Beach Boys, Ricky Nelson, and Christian Brando. Thank God we still have David. Iman is a lucky woman.

  • i'm 18. i wish i was alive in the later 60 to follow all bowie's career while it was all happening, the 70s must have been so amazing. but it doesn't matter, after all, bowie's music is ageless. and yeah, iman is a VERY lucky woman hahaha

  • It was. I also loved the Beach Boys with the Wilsons in. You are about my daughter's age. I saw a Bowie concert back in 1983. I was 17 then and it was amazing.

  • Why was I thinking Duncan was a filmmaker? I know very little about his son and don't think I have EVER seen his picture. Bowie did a great job of keeping his son out of the limelight.

  • He is a filmmaker, but I read where he has a doctor in Philosophy. Yea, That is probably why we don't hear about Duncan carrying on like some of these celeb kids.

  • Exactly. Let's hope he does as good a job raising Lexie. I have only seen one picture of her, and I think it was just a few months after she was born.

  • I never saw Lexie. He and Iman seem stable tho.

  • You got to love the "hideous" Mellotron!

  • What can one say, he is the one and only David Bowie.

  • I love this song:) David is so cute!

  • god, i love this song! i know there are many far better bowie songs (in a lyrical sense especially), but this one is so cool, the instrumental is great...

  • I absolutely agree. I love this song. It's like all good Bowie, you like it when you first hear it, but the more times you play it the more you seem to hear - and the more things you find to like about it.

The Adrian Belew guitar section is genius.

  • I'm glad we agree, ereid ;) enjoy in the ecstatic waves of ecstasy that only the Muse Euterpe* (the Muse of Music) can create :) hehe

  • absolutely one of my favorites

  • david bowie is an alien.

  • vnesofsc, you're so right! :)

  • David Bowie is heterosexual

  • You sound like a homophobic idiot. Besides what do you mean by "true fag"? You do know he is married for the second time and have one child in this marriage and one from his first marriage?

  • David Robert Haywood Jones I'm only a thin white woman was thursday's child. But I know there's something in the wind. Let me fly away with you. Waiting so long, I've been waiting so long. Come to my waiting arms. Give me more than one caress, satisfy this hungriness. Share my life. Falling in love with me. How I wish you would. With your kiss my life begins.
  • There's nothing like bowie...

  • Special...

  • what is it about David Bowie that is so damn attractive? If you really look at him, he doesn't have particularly lovely features, and yet..

  • thats what i said too im a hetereosexual man in every since of the word of hetereosexual but i find him attractive for some reason....lol

  • I am female and I am normally attracted to men like David Gilmour however David Bowie is extremely attractive

  • Daivd Gilmour in the early 70's

  • hell, i'm a straight man who is normally attracted to women, and i still find david bowie extremely attractive.

  • riigghhht... just kidding.

  • Have you ever noticed the similarity in facial features between early David Gilmour and Leo Di Caprio? It's pretty startling.

If they ever make a Pink Floyd movie, Leo would get my vote to play Gilmour.

  • I don't know about leo for david gilmour my main attraction is all about the lips on David Gilmour. I don't know who they should have play david gilmour.

  • You asked about the coat .

The coat used to belong to film director John Maybury,

then to Kenny Morris , the drummer for Sioxsie and the Banshees, for then lent to Willy Brown , who designed the clothes for the DJ and Fashion videos and included the trenchcoat , who then lent it to me.

The coat resides in a trunk in North London.

  • everything.:P

  • 1:49 is awesome. Hell! this whole video is awesome. I love this song, and I love David Bowie

  • I just read my old comment from 8 months ago and I must have been drunk. I was 9, maybe 10 when I first saw this. I don't remember where I was, but I remember seeing it and being really disturbed and excited by it, which is what good art does. Honestly, I think it had a great impact on me deep inside and yes, I'm bisexual and wish I was in a time before AIDS, Herpes, and G.W. Bush. I've oft' said that were it not for climate and condition I'd be much more free. God Bless David Bowie!

  • Man, why is it that people that aren't straight always have to make everyone else around them aware of it? Guilt complex? I've yet to read one comment on YouTube where someone discloses they're straight.

  • i wasn't trying to make everyone aware of it. actually, in my day to day life, i keep it quiet. i was only trying to say that the video moved me deeply and still does. the days of 'troling the streets and getting what you're looking for, are over. gay, straight or otherwise.
